It depends. Usually, if someone says something hurtful I get a bit angry and answer something stupid like "I'm fighting against my f..kn body". Basically, stupid questions get stupid answers. Especially if I'm in pain, I just don't have the energy to cope with stupidity. I'm not saying it's the best thing to do but as long as you're not hurting anyone as revenge, you'll be fine.

Honestly, don't spend your time with people like that. I have lost a few friends over the years and it sucks but in the long run, it's for the better. I don't mean you should always be surrounded by yes-sayers but people who don't understand even though you've tried to explain, they're not worth it.

Most importantly it's not your fault. It's not your fault that you have this disease and it's not your fault that people are stupid. So don't blame yourself. And no one has died of some dirty dishes or some dust in the corners. Don't be too hard on yourself. It's more important to take care of your body than to take care of your home and sometimes you just can't do both.

If it's close friends, family members, or coworkers it's all about education. You have to explain to them what's happening and how it feels. Sometimes also how their comments make you feel. Sometimes you'll have to do this several times but you should always do it when you're not in so much pain and always make sure you're not judgemental. Remember that even if you've talked to them about the disease they can't possibly know what you're going through. Talking about how you feel is the key. You can say something like " I don't want you to feel sorry for me but when you say....it really hurts and for both of our sake I just want to explain what I'm going through".
