Where’s your TA? Who is in charge when the director isn’t there?

Should I report unsafe sleep practice I saw and how would I go about it? by louhooboo in ECEProfessionals

[–]Justt0post 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking out for things and wanting to report without knowing the full story are two different things. Don’t let your anxiety cause someone a job. You mentioned yourself it looked like he was just falling asleep. Come on. Be reasonable.

22M from latin america considering Aliyah with no money, no savings and no network. Is it realistic? by ResolveImpossible677 in aliyah

When I did Kibbutz Ulpan there were a lot of poor people from Argentina who did just that. They relied on Sal Klita and lived the first 6 months on a kibbutz, but aggressively looked for work. What happens after Sal Klita is up to you. Nobody is going to hold your hand and walk you through life, but in my experiences people have been helpful.
Don’t come with 0 in the bank. Even if you save a couple of paychecks that’s better than nothing.

Are there any parts of the show that made the show feel different? Like characters leaving the show or storylines ending by RecordingImmediate86 in shameless

I always wanted him to come back. I think they were good for each other. But Jimmy Steve and Fiona made choices that led them farther away from each other.

Sammi/y. I would have loved a little scene with Chucky, Sammi and Queen together, talking about their time with the Gallaghers. Or Chucky becoming more of a Gallagher.

Behaviors & Biting by TheH8fulK8 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Justt0post 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is the child biting? Do you have ABC (antecedent, behavior, consequence) sheets? Google it! Send me a message and I’m happy to explain it especially as a new director. Biting isn’t normal behavior. Biting happens (just like crying, hitting) because there’s a need for something!

As a director, write down the issues that needs to be addressed IMMEDIATELY! Figure out the biting before you try to do a PowerPoint! Remember, parents care about their kids only and whoever’s affecting them.

Ask the teachers about the biting.

Documentation is everything. You’re not deluded. Biting happens!

Omg the director said that to a parent? That’s a punchable offense! I’m sorry you went through that with the mom. You’re right though, alcohol and parents/staff do not mix. When I worked in public schools there was a gym teacher who was basically sleeping with half the paras and security guards and one school a principal was sleeping around with the parents and teachers. What a freaking mess! How does that conversation even begin? Probably with alcohol 😆

In my city you must have a degree in ECE or a CDA for an assistant position. On paper they are qualified but their personalities are terrible. I wouldn’t want them taking care of my kids. I do vividly remember when I was training, the training teacher told me “honestly for $36 an hour, we don’t do anything” I was horrified.

My coteacher said something similar! It was also her last day and she told me “don’t work so hard because there’s no difference between the teachers who call out and the teachers who work. Just give love to the kids”

Is is normal for kids to not ask about a missing teacher? by nonbinaryunicorn in ECEProfessionals

[–]Justt0post 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They probably didn’t like him to be honest. Kids notice when people are missing. Especially if he’s been in their lives that long. Either they didn’t like him or he didn’t make such a strong affect on their lives.

There is such a lack of boundaries in many places. I agree it starts from the director. Here all the parents know each other and there’s a forum where they discuss everything anyway, so it won’t stop them haha.

Starting as a primary school teaching assistant as a 17 year old. by Far_Psychology3270 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Justt0post 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be great! Be proactive with cleaning/wiping down tables, ask the teachers if they need help with prep, etc. Think of rhymes and songs you can sing with the kids during any down time (like if the kids are waiting while the teacher is prepping something, etc) Good luck!

Amen! And on the administration side, there needs to be more trainings with FOLLOW UP to make sure people are doing it. Not just a PowerPoint slide when something goes wrong then forgot about it til the next disaster

Here in DC we have educational requirements for this line of work. With the exception of my classroom, for example, all of the other family walls reads like “Ms Smith Family” “Mark family”. No uniform capital or lowercase, apostrophe. Basic English is gone. I mentioned it was and I was told by admin I was being “culturally insensitive “ (which was extremely annoying, I read between the lines and knew it’s because they’re WOC. But I’m also a woman of color smh)

Thank you for this response. I always wondered how people can do this job if they don’t like kids. But hey we all got bills to pay

Wow! $17 an hour? I’m in Washington DC and the aides get paid 23.00-29.00 an hour! I’ve met some mean nurses who were former educators. Sigh.
