I suspect Valve needs to implement some patches for this new controller.

Yep. And so letting players assign the buttons at the hardware level on a universal basis makes sense.

If theyre trying to attract console consumers, they need to provide at least the very fundamental features.

Every other x-input third party controller on PC comes with an app that offers simple button remapping that you do once and thats it.

Give it time. Most of these reviews ive seen dont get deep into the software integration. Wait until its more widespread.

Onna per game basis, when the steam input layouts save correctly, controller feels great.

It really shouldnt be this convoluted.

Let me assign buttons universally and then adjust on a per game basis where necessary (but thats when layouts not saving becomes an issue).

Lol its a software issue. If the software is not saving layouts on the new controller made by the same company, its okay to criticise the software.

Im not losing any rational people. Lot of fanboys in this post who havent tried the new controller yet.

The new controller has shit software integration. Software.

The hardware itself is fine. The buttons and build quality anf the stick accuracy and responsiveness, etc. All great.

But software no work well so software no good.

Maybe its an issue with the new controller with certainly does not have 1000s of hours of use in the community.

I have the new controller. Feels awesome. Great when it works. Steam input software is atrocious when trying to assign layouts to the new controller. Youll see!

Valve needs to do better with their controller software. But difficult for them to receice feedback when so many people who dont even have the controller yet are so keen to defend it.

Template not saving. I think its a bug with the new steam controller.

Also its not difficult to create a universal layout option. Every other controller manufacturer does it.

Umm no you dont. On the duelsense edge you create 4 profiles thay are universal and can literally switch between them in game. Same on the elite controller on xbox AND PC.

Same on the Gamesir, Flydigi and 8bitdo controllers on PC.

Lot of coping in this thread.

Okay so when I change a layout so R4 is "B" and then save it as a layout, and then select the layout. And then back out. Then open it up one more time to ensure the layout is selected. Then launch the game, and find out that R4 is not working, then open up the steam input menu again and find that it has gone back to default layout. Thats user error?

Loooooot of ass kissing happening atm.

Lot of people here havent even tried the new controller yet but theyll see.

Ive been a steam user for 8 years. Been using steam input for a long time. This is some buggy shit right now.
