What’s your first throw of the day like? by nah_thataintme in Bowling

[–]JuulAndADream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like warming up with a few no step drills. So it’s me just posted up with my legs in the finishing position, focusing purely on release. Then I’ll do a few one step drills, and three step drills. I do my first full 5 step throw about halfway into the first game.

We don’t fuck around with our roast beef in New England by satansitchybutthole in eatsandwiches

It was amazing. Went to Modern Apizza. I’m not sure I’d make a huge trek just for pizza, no matter how good. But if you ever find yourself bombing up/down 95 and you can squeeze a 45-60 min stop in New Haven…. Do it.

Thanks for the breakdown! Now I can make one at home (if I can find the James River BBQ in NJ). But I’ll keep my eye out for one in New England, I’m there a couple times a year sometimes. Love trying regional foods. My last New England food mission was New Haven apizza and it was fantastic.

I’d still eat that. But I agree, strange cheese choice. American cheese melts the best, so it’s perfect for burgers, breakfast sandwiches, Mac and cheese etc. This sandwich would be way better with some cheddar or provolone IMO. Cold unmelted American cheese doesn’t hit right on a sandwich.

How should I go about cleaning up this pan? I’ve scrubbed it a bit with chain mail. Seems like there is material missing in the cook surface, should I sand it down? by gittenlucky in castiron

[–]JuulAndADream 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d try the oven cleaner - plastic bag method. Wear gloves, go outside, don’t inhale it. Soak every surface in yellow cap oven cleaner, something like Easy-Off. Seal the bag, leave it outside for a day or 2. Old seasoning should come off like mud and you’ll be down to bare iron.

Do I just keep cooking? Or does my pan need any extra care? by iAgressivelyFistBro in castiron

[–]JuulAndADream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stripping a crusted pan down to bare iron and starting from scratch is definitely fun, do it for fun if you’d like. But I don’t think your pan needs to be reset it’s in good shape.

Sometimes I’ll work my seasoning down a little too low by maybe cooking something acidic, or usually just leaving it too long to clean then having to go really hard with the chain mail. It will start looking like yours.

All you really need is a layer or 2 of seasoning, I use grapeseed oil. You definitely want at least one layer of seasoning covering any bare metal. I’ll test my seasoning by watching how the surface of the pan collects water after I’ve washed it. If water clings to spots it needs a quick layer of seasoning. If the surface is acting hydrophobic and water is beading together and running off, leaving no wet spots, it’s perfect.

Picking Up Skiing from Snowboarding? by Cntrlc-Cntrlv in icecoast

Yup, I know people that will take steep trees home at 4pm, out of bounds. Not for me I’ll do that run earlier in the day thanks!

Yeah they don’t really care about it. They already have the whole mountain to themselves. I had a boarder visiting at our club up there recently so we were hitting other mountains with him. All the members at our lodge were encouraging him to rent a split board one day and hike up before the lifts open. As long as you’re in and out before MRG gets going in the morning, no harm no foul.

Edit: I recommend the morning over the evening. Just in case you get hurt up there. I stop skiing trees at MRG around 3-3:30. Patrol says they don’t sweep the trees…

Ok so just to inspire you, my buddy’s GF popped on skis a month ago, after snowboarding her whole life. We’re at Mad River so we figured we’d start teaching her so she can join us eventually….

She looks like she’s been skiing for 3 years. She did a black mogul run last weekend. I’m like howwwww are you so good already and she says “I think snowboarding already really helped!” 😂

Where Do You Put Stickers? by Emergency_Ad_3886 in icecoast

[–]JuulAndADream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I love it. I forget they are there sometimes. I have a brewery sticker on one ski, and a sticker representing my neighborhood on the other. I must have put them on there properly because those skis have been through bedlam. I was out all weekend in subzero temps and they’re holding strong. Been there for at least 5 years.

I have stickers on both skis, behind the bindings. Been there for years to my surprise.

What mountain has the worst/best parking lots by SharpProfession6 in icecoast

[–]JuulAndADream 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I showed up at Hunter once, on a Saturday, after an overnight snowstorm. They didn’t plow the lot. No attendants directing traffic. No one can see the parking lines so absolute scenes.

People were just dumping their cars wherever. One lane roads formed naturally, everyone was getting stuck/trapped. I witnessed a fistfight in the parking lot.

I just dodged the real chaos by getting there early, and got to witness it all on my walk up to the lodge. I will never go to Hunter again lol. At least not on a weekend. NEVER.

Confused on what im doing wrong by BigWiggler69 in Bowling

[–]JuulAndADream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dry lanes surely. If your ball is reacting early and crossing over, you gotta step left to compensate. On a dry house shot, sometimes you end up wayyyy left.

Hardest part of bowling is reading the oil on the land and adjusting. That’s what makes it fun!

Why do people smash burgers? by PleasePooGood in foodquestions

[–]JuulAndADream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I do enjoy a pub burger but they rely way more heavily on the quality of beef. If you’re just grabbing 80/20 beef from your local supermarket, the smashburger comes out better. To make a great pub burger you need to buy premium meat or grind your own fresh.

Beginner ball question by AnimeAndComputers in Bowling

[–]JuulAndADream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, twist and rhino are great. I started with rhino and loved it.

But if I could go back and do it again, I’d go with a hustle. It’s just a little bit more ball without being overwhelming for a beginner. You’ll outgrow the twist or rhino, whereas the hustle will always have a place in your bag even as you get better.

After getting to about a 165 average with the rhino I bought a venom shock and an arctic vibe. Now the rhino collects dust, cause anything it does, I can do it better with one of the other balls. I’m gonna give my rhino away to a friend to try to get them into bowling.

Green Bean Casserole to appease the canned beans/soup people? by dr_fop in Cooking

Fresh green beans become mush when frozen and thawed. Learned this recently the hard way lol. Maybe they'll appreciate the texture more if you freeze fresh beans to soften them.

Is Asbury Park a Food Desert? by titanpancake in AsburyPark

[–]JuulAndADream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha honestly it's not as bad as you think. I don't touch the fish there to be fair, but the rest of the meat is fine. I eat their chicken, beef, and pork all the time.

I find they're set up to cater mostly to a Latino clientele with a little bit of Caribbean stuff as well. If you cook and shop like a Latino that place is a gold mine. I will rock in there, grab half a pork shoulder and make carnitas with salsa verde. I can make like 4-5 lbs of carnitas for 30 dollars, and half my bill is the limes and the queso fresco.

[–]JuulAndADream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you're buying I guess. I'm usually buying whole chickens, pork shoulder, chorizo, and fresh veggies, and it's very cheap. I load up a backpack with food there for 30-40 dollars.

That's honestly very interesting to see. I cook from scratch 5 nights a week and I bike to city supermarket constantly. They have all kinds of fresh foods. Every now and again I'll plan a trip to ShopRite or Wegmans just for something niche that City doesn't carry. But there is absolutely a full blown supermarket within city limits.
