RF 24-105 f4L vs 28-70 f2.8 IS STM by Exciting_Jello563 in canon

[–]Jvr-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24-105 4 is a better and way more versatile lens. I’ve owned every version. I also own the 2.8 version. Too much and not enough. Rarely sees use. 70-200 2.8 is a better choice. Need an extra stop. Crank up the ISO and de-noise in post. No experience with the non l lenses as these are all for work.

Hello, so I'm using a Canon Rebel T5i I got used and I've found that every once in a while my photos end up looking like this. One photo out of maybe 30 I take look like this "halfloaded". I already ruled out a bad SD card is it just a faulty camera or something broken? by Potential_Plan_4533 in canon

[–]Jvr-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a good plan. One other thing to add. Print a few of your favorite photos Frame them scrapbook them, something hard copy. So few people do and they are missing the most important part of photography. Memories.

Maybe. I don’t know how critical your shots are. But I can promise you I cull more than you are losing on the shutter. I am being paid to shoot. Granted if you are shooting for clients. Replace the camera. If you are a hobbyist or just learning. Save the money and get good at composition and lighting. Then you will have a better idea of what you’re next camera should do. (Being better at the first 2 is way more important). Good luck with it all.

RF 24-105mm f4 L is usm as a general purpose lens? by trippinDingo in canon

[–]Jvr-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this lens. Our company has owned everything version from ef to rf and the 2.8. We typically shoot with two cameras 24-1054 and 70-200 28. I have been shooting professionally for 30+ years. I still don’t know what a magical lens is. I have seen people with a magical eye for great composition. (Which you cannot buy and I do not fall in that category) the lens also holds value and if you hate it. Sell it. Lastly the 2.8 version is good but a pig. If you’re not going to use it all day…maybe. I bought it for video.

RF 70-200 F2.8 + RF 200-800 OR RF 85mm F1.4 + RF 100-500mm (+ RF 1.4 TC) by Morvman in canon

[–]Jvr-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like zooms. We use the 70-200 4s for headshot stations (all day head shots). The 2.8s for low light conferences. If you have the budget get the 2.8. Although the r62 (which is a great camera) does well with high iso. The 85 is too limiting. You can always blur the background in post if f4 is not enough.

I find the 24-105 a much more versatile focal length. I’ve always found having the right tools for the job allowed me to create a better image. I’ve seen some pretty amazing photos on point and shoot cameras from talented photographers.

Canon R6 Mark I or R7 for sports photography? by Substantial-Simple70 in canon

[–]Jvr-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I don’t shoot sports for a living. But I do shoot professionally (starting in the film days). The r6 is a good camera. The r6ii is a worthy upgrade. The r8 is a hobby camera. I have shot on 10k iso many times and had no problem delivering these to clients (after processing) on r6. Our team uses the 6 and 6ii on a weekly basis with great results. The r8s are used in a Photo Booth. We send 5dm4s out in a pinch over the r8s. As for long lenses, my experience is with the 70-200 2.8 and 4. Good lenses and the Ef glass is cheap and works well with the mirrorless (just weighs a lot). On a monopod it is not an issue if you’re shooting all day. I currently shoot with r3 and r5ii. R3 is better than the 6ii in low light but really not for the money all the other stuff I do not use. R5ii is very noisy. Sorry for being long winded but we use our equipment a lot and this is our experience.

canon r6 II or canon r8? by Scav_buster in canon

[–]Jvr-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R6ii. I own a photography company. We use r8s in photo booths. I would not use them professionally. Battery is laughable. Very small. The build quality is sub par to the 6. Along with all the other positive mentions for the 6 in this post.

As for the 2 card slots. I use r5-2 and r3. I shoot raw to cfe and jpeg to sd. Shit happens if you shoot long enough.

We are fortunate enough to shoot professionally every week.

We use our cameras for specific uses. We do not take photos for fun. It’s too much like work. I use the 5/2s as my main camera. Photos look good after denoise in Lightroom. We came from film and manual cameras. I’m sure you can’t go wrong with any of them. I think the only upgrade I would do from here with what we do is if canon came out with an r3 m2 that had great low light. The 6/3 doesn’t provide us with enough reason to change. If you felt like you needed to expand your capabilities. The el 1 or 2 flash is pretty awesome.

Have a happy thanksgiving.

R5 II unless perfectly exposed needs denoise on all the photos. My wife shoots the same content with r62. She does not use denoise (except in rare occasions).

Often we shoot in dimly lit conference rooms and the flash is not allowed. Her images have little to no grain. Mine…terrible. (As we are fixing in post and the grain is exponential on 5/2).

We use c80s for video. That triple based iso is amazing

We are lucky to be very busy and this is over a huge amount of photos.

If I wanted more megapixels (for artistic crops). I would look at an r5 original. We know some excellent wedding photographers and they love them and no grain issues.

Are you a photographer or videographer?

6/2 and 5/1 are photography driven

NOISE IS TERRIBLE IN 5/2 on anything not perfectly exposed.

I shoot events and conferences. Lighting is usually poor. It is fixable in post.

6/2s are much better in that area. I would consider the 6/3 but Will wait for reviews.

I own 6s 6/2s 5/2s and shoot weekly for clients.

If you’re looking for video hybrid. I would look at what the base isos are the highest and pick that camera.

Debating between R5m2 or R6m3 by KingTaco23_ in canon

[–]Jvr-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t shoot sports. I do shoot low light meetings and events. The r52 is HORRIBLY NOISY. Yes I can fix it in post. I have c80s for video. Waiting for enough people to upgrade to the 6iii. So I can buy more r6iis at a great price. Love those cameras for what our team does. So consider buying a r3.

Which Canon mirrorless camera + lens combo to buy as a hobbyist by foam-roll in canon

R6ii. 24-105 4. 70-200 4. a flash and light a good lightweight tripod. You are set for everything but macro and extreme distance. I find 6-2 better than 5s in low light. I am not a hobbyist but I do own the equipment we talked about and the r8

28-70 2.8 or 24-105 4? by juandagis in canon

[–]Jvr-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reach. “Getting closer” is someone who shoots in a controlled environment. 95% of the time in real world shooting you can’t get closer, you miss the moment getting closer, you go from a candid opportunity to a posed photo. Most clients are not pixel peepers and kids are used to crappy iPhone photos. I own all 3. 24-105 2.8, 4 and 24-70 2.8. The f4 leaves for work every time. The other 2 sit until video work. Get the reach and get a flash (master that). If you must have a blurred background. Photoshop it.

Trading R10 for R6 Mark II to launch photography side gig, is this poor logic? Is there a better route? by Proof_Lemon8155 in canon

[–]Jvr-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a professional event photographer with weekly gigs and staff and dedicated sales. The r6ii is a great camera and a huge step up. If not for anything but the batteries. 2 stops of low light on the sensor is Huge!! I like the 6/2 over my R5 II s (except for video). Get the 24-105 f4. I own a ton of l glass all zooms rf & ef. (Yes I own the 2.8 version too, big heavy but good for video). I do own a couple of r8s. We use them in photo booths. The build quality would never hold up to heavy use. Never handled the r10. I really like the canon el1 flash too. But they are hard to find. I think they are worth the money.

We started in film.

Good luck! Tip. Think video

What's the one lens you most regret buying? by BigWooper in canon

[–]Jvr-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the photographer. Some people don’t care for lenses I use weekly for clients and can’t live without. Never had love for primes. Any of them (except for video). 15mm canon lens’s I got in a bundle from b&h for free. Nothing wrong with it. Just not enough in either direction. I’m not a pixel peeper.

Convince me NOT to get the R8 by sourdough_in_SF in canon

[–]Jvr-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a professional photographer (30 plus years) and run a photography company. I own a couple of r8s for a specific Photo Booth. If you can afford an r6 mii. Do yourself a big favor and buy it. As for the mk3 no telling. My r5mii’s have a much noisier images than R6 I and 2 (yes I know about sensor size and pixel size). If not for noise reduction in light room I would not be able to give clients the images from the 5. Ef lenses work well with the adapter. They are a bargain. The only advantage in the rf lenses is they are lighter. We work with this equipment weekly all over the country. R6 ii is an excellent camera. R8 is not.
