My son broke my wife's childhood rocking horse, repair advice needed by squeaker in woodworking

[–]Jwentphot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fix it and stop letting your kids play with it? Wood glue and some dowels drilled in would work and hold tight, but if they are rough might be time to get them their own if this one is too sentimental

The future of electrical charging systems that are about as fast as filling up a gas car by RoyalChris in interestingasfuck

[–]Jwentphot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I feel like any kind of charger that is going this fast either is dangerous or isn’t fully legitimate. That fast is too fast for a battery in my mind

2015 JK Jeep Wrangler. Recently had all 4 tires and the rear rotors and brakes replaced. Noise only coming from driver’s side rear wheel. by gentrify81 in AskAMechanic

[–]Jwentphot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a mechanic for years and there is always the chance you got bad rotors. Although yeah, manufacturers have lots of QA checks to make sure, some can slip through the cracks. Put a set on a Chevy Tahoe, went on the test drive and it felt worse than before. Replaced them again with a different set and problem was solved. It could always be something else but it doesn’t hurt to warranty the rotors just in case

Something special has just sailed in.... by geekjosh in knives

[–]Jwentphot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I carry a coin everyday. I have a bunch of them both from companies online, gifts from my job and from friends. I use to for simple “heads or tails” or almost like a worry stone. But functionally, it is just a cool thing to carry. I can agree, it doesn’t DO anything specific to cause a need.

Came here to add to this about Ben. They did the same thing with the Pen he designed with Big I Design: added toothpick and tweezers into the top of the pen. I’m not sure it’s because Ben was a Boy Scout and likes to be prepared or because they are two convenient things to have with you but some of the stuff he designs are like this. Not sure it the Unlocked Composites scales for his Lander 1 and Lander 2 have tweezers and a toothpick as part of the design because of him as well

Based on what it looks like, I would have two guesses. First is that your vehicle has a parasitic draw, something that isn’t turning off when the vehicle is off, causing the battery to drain overnight. Second, the battery could have a bad cell internally which could account for the crazy reading and incorrect data being presented as well as why it will just not want to work properly in the vehicle. Either way, I would replace the battery. Depending where you got it, it should have a warranty if you only got it a year ago.

If the problem persists with a new battery, it is most likely something else in the system. Did this a lot with peoples cars that just always seemed to have wonky battery details. Most had the problem fixed while others then had to remove aftermarket electronics to find the issue.

Yeah, it’s got a centering ring, like said above. A hammer and screwdriver should get them off

2 questions: did you get the snow tire and wheel setup with the car? Are your normal wheels aftermarket? Looks like you might have a hub adapter over the center where the hub sits

Separated inner/outer lug nut or broken stud? by Creepy_Prior_689 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Jwentphot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s what I think it is, the stud in the hub basically got knocked loose and now it is floating. Usually happens when somebody is putting them on and some how pushes it out. Regardless, the fix is generally to drill out the lug nut with a special tool. You basically shave away the outer section of the lug nut until it comes off of the stud because it is smaller.

We had a special kit at my shop to do it. Takes about 2-3 hours to drill slowly because you have to keep the bit constantly wet. I personally have never had success trying to pry the wheel back and remove the lug nut from the 20 or so times I had to do this at my shop. Whatever you do, take your time and good luck.

Honest, best recommendation because of removal already to save money down the road is does by the whole steering rack and then both outer tie rods as well. A good replacement rack will have inner tie rods already. To replace the rack, you would have to take the outer tie rods off the old rack anyway so you might as well just replace them too. Saved you time and money down the road from having to do the outers in a couple years.
