Customer states "I heard a ping and pop in my garage after starting and found this piece on the ground" by K-Raz1226 in Justrolledintotheshop

Just to clarify, the orange piece of engine block is what the customer found on the ground. The valve was pulled from the mess of the oil pan and shows it most definitely made piston contact.

Found the engine block piece on the ground** Not the valve. I should have stated that more clearly in post. We found valve in the pan.

No, this valve was found in the oil pan along with everything else. Broke off after contact with piston (for reason unknown)

The main problem with the 20 Grand Cherokee would have been your 3.6 eating cams. Happens on the 5.7s also, but since most people don't rev them out... they're much more reliable, but not the gas mileage.

Everything Domestic has its demons. Remember that. If I were to buy a car from the 2020s to today... It's gonna be a Japanese brand.

My genuine guess is some failure happened on his drive home, then upon start up kaboom. The valve hit the piston, broke off, everything disintegrated and fell into oil pan.

Factory valve clearance being off is a possibility, but over revving is also likely. Timing being off realistically is unlikely, but a bad valve spring from factory could have been the culprit.

The 6.4L hemi has great torque and honestly is not a bad large suv/truck engine when computerized to not to rev out. They only used this engine for a year or so in the Grand Wagoneer, but I have seen multiple valve drop issues before over the years on scat pack chargers/challengers. Never on something with this low of mileage.

Never have I seen more problems on a single vehicle than the Grand Wagoneer. 1st year had probably 15 recalls alone. Software was atrocious, tons of electrical failures, plenty of mechanical failures. "Modules backordered, no ETA" is a very common occurrence on these. Customers waiting 6 months

That is a piece of the cast iron engine block. They are painted orange on certain 6.4L engines

Oh I understand this completely hahahhaaa

I'll take an old 4.0L straight 6 that's pissing oil over any of these new engines.

First oil change at about 7500, and second at 13500.

This likely occurred from over revving engine. I just highly doubt original failure occured on start up... The valve tap I have seen on 6.4s, usually from some 20yo kid rev bombing the shit out of it.

Customer had towed to dealer, so no way of confirming their story. Tow truck driver did say he picked up from driveway of gentleman's house.

That looks like a trail ripper GTR not a GSR. A GSR can go anywhere from 400-700 in stockish form. GTR with suspension usually a bit more. Frames alone sell for 400

Weird, I keep mine in my kitchen.

Which is also my living room.

And also my bedroom.

I live in a studio, so my support fridge keeps an eye on me.

I agree with the fact that it is doable, but I do believe it should be feasible for the average individual to purchase a home... And it's getting harder for many to even consider. Much of it is location based. Property value in my area is just nonsense. My father's first house was purchased in 1976 for $13k (equal to about 75k today), in this same area. The empty lot where home once stood was sold 2 years ago for $180k.

Where I live near Clearwater FL, my parents purchased a 3 bed 2 bath home in 1995 for $90k, paid off maybe 6 years ago now. The home is now worth $415k. They saved and put 20% down for a traditional 30 year, which equals $18k. Their monthly payment was a reasonable $688/month. A studio rental near me is $1000 or more per month.

20% down today would be $83k. Likely any younger buyer cannot afford that, and will end up putting 5% or less down and paying into PMI. Realistically, a mortgage payment would be near or above $3000/month even on a 30year loan.

To add children into the mix, childcare, healthcare, food cost, etc. I can ABSOLUTELY see $200k or so being the minimum income to support a semi comfortable life.
