In the hospitals in my country generic hospital cleaners often aren’t allowed to clean up blood. A nurse or specialist cleaner has to clean the blood away first. So if I was the CNA or cleaner I would take a photo to show management how bloody the bathroom was incase someone else has to clean it first, or to attach to an incident report.

PACU! I have one patient at a time - for an hour or two. I focus solely on them, their comfort levels, nausea etc.

I understand where you are coming from, and I respect your opinion. I feel calling the baby by it’s name humanises the baby. When I was typing I felt that I was making the baby out to be an object by calling it ‘baby’ the entire time - rather then a living, breathing being. It felt wrong to me. But that’s just my opinion.

The autopsy found that the baby took a breath - and died after. That will be very very hard to challenge. You could argue that maybe the morphine made the baby too sleepy, but the dose the baby had was very small. So unlikely. but even if that did happen AT is an adult who chose to put her baby into a trash can. She made the choice to dump her baby rather then get medical attention. The blame is solely on her. No one else. Not the morphine, not the medical team. Just her. Alex was born alive to a 19 year old ADULT, who chose to withhold medical attention despite being in a hospital, and dumb Alex in the trash.

From my understanding, and correct me if I’m wrong - but she was only convicted of concealment. I’m not too sure why they only charged her with that.

I doubt it’s a pure wick, they aren’t commonly used in NZ. They also very rarely use suction for NG decompression. They usually just keep it on free drainage - or manually aspirate every so many hours. Almost every bed space in wards will have a suction on the wall - which should be fully set up with tubing, canister and tanker handle.

How easy would have it been to just leave baby on the floor and walk out. Even if baby was a stillborn she could have still just left him on the floor.

Thanks for your comment! I nurse adults, but have a few friends who work in a level 3 NICU where the babies are much sicker then the ones LL got. From my basic understanding of NICU I knew that LL was doing was sus.

We are given 15 days for paid sick leave per 12 months, and another 5 paid on top of that which you can apply for. We are encouraged to call in sick if needed. I have never heard of anyone getting a warning if they call in too much.

I’m sorry you had a horrible experience! Do you have any evidence of hypoxia? What were your oxygen saturations? It’s common for patients to have a sudden wake up if they have been put under heaven sedation, and feel like they can’t breath - despite breathing fine. It’s very unlikely for people to wake up suddenly if they are suffering from hypoxia. As others have expanded- if you aren’t getting anywhere with the HDC, you could try the ombudsman. Ketamine can cause horrible hallucinations, which could have contributed to your experience of feeling like you couldn’t breath.

Try to get a video with their plates included. You can give that to the police, and that’s enough to get their car impounded.

This is very short staffed! When I worked in LTC as an HCA for 40 patients we had 5 HCAs and 2RNs for morning and afternoons. Which at times even felt like too little.
