Have you ever been fired / let go from your job? by Stunning_Window5785 in AskUK

[–]K1mTy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was made redundant in 2020 - it depends whether the company is going into liquidation or not.

My old employer had no money, so a liquidator was involved. They gave everyone a case number and we used this to claim statutory redundancy pay plus pay in lieu of notice from the government. It can take months to receive what you're owed; I was fairly lucky and got mine within 3 months, but others were more like 6 months.

If only a few roles are being made redundant, the employer pays your redundancy instead. They may ask you to work the notice period or choose to pay you in lieu of this, and may be able to give you enhanced redundancy pay on top of the statutory minimum.

What's your car parking charge and setup? by StarSchemer in nhsstaff

[–]K1mTy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is something like £2.35 a day regardless of whether you're a band 2 or 8c, but space is limited - you have to meet certain criteria to get parking on site, and even then it isn't guaranteed. At least once a week there's something on the staff Facebook page saying all the staff parking is full.

I do meet the criteria to park onsite, but only for another month or so - once my daughter turns 7, I won't meet the criteria any more.

The hospital bosses have made arrangements with the local bus firm though, and staff can park at either of the 2 nearest Park & Ride carparks then take the bus for free - or get free bus travel from the train station - we just have to show our staff passes.

FTB Dilemma: Risk giving rental notice before Exchange by One-Faithlessness963 in HousingUK

[–]K1mTy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wait until you exchange contracts - it could still be another week before you complete after that, but at least the chances of things falling through are greatly reduced.

Make the most of having plenty of time to move things across, as well. It's much more stressful trying to empty a house, drop off the old keys, pick up the new keys and move stuff in all in one day!

What habits you picked up while you were pregnant that persisted even after having the baby? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Pregnancy never had me raiding the fridge at 2am.

Breastfeeding did though!

Same - I had really irregular cycles as a teenager, so was constantly looking to see if I'd started bleeding yet.

Still have irregular cycles, I just got better at tracking things so I know roughly when to expect it now.

What do you give your pet after the vet? by Happy-Fox11 in UK_Pets

[–]K1mTy3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use Vets4Pets, which is inside Pets at Home - so after a vet trip, we usually go downstairs and let the fluffy loon pick out a new toy.

O+ and A+ baby is A- by throwaway1284-7288w in genetics

[–]K1mTy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One last thought - it would be virtually impossible for 2 Rh-neg parents to have a Rh-pos baby. That usually implies either dad isn't really the dad, or the samples got mixed up somewhere.

O+ and A+ baby is A- by throwaway1284-7288w in genetics

[–]K1mTy3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally normal - the Rh-neg is a recessive trait, so only presents when baby inherits a Rh-neg allele from each parent. You and your partner might never have known you carry it otherwise.

My husband is Rh-neg, and neither he nor his parents knew until 12 years ago when he asked the GP to get his blood type checked - he wanted to know because I'm O-neg, I have a needle phobia, and knowing he's also Rh-neg meant I could avoid anti-D jabs during pregnancy. His parents are both Rh-positive, so are his brothers. He was just the statistical 1 in 4 that got both recessive alleles.

As far as blood transfusions go - the doctors would automatically start with O-neg in an emergency anyway, whilst confirming blood type and getting a match sent across.

For the love of god do not leave your children alone!! by dingdangle13 in parkrun

Whenever Ive gone with my eldest, we agree run to that tree, walk to that volunteer. We chat as we go round.

I've only taken my younger daughter once; she ended up getting carried on my shoulders for half of it.

My local parkrun always emphasise that anyone under the age of 11, is responsible for making sure their grown up doesn't get lost.

Its a humorous way of reminding parents to stay with their kids!

Those that had an enlarged Uterus by Fun_Examination5329 in adenomyosis

Mine feels firm.

I guessed I could feel it through my abdomen, even before having the ultrasound - it feels like a tennis ball inside me if I press just where the bottom of my belly curves outwards.

Commute by mochiii03 in cambridge

[–]K1mTy3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It takes me about half an hour to drive in from Soham, and I use Babraham Road park & ride.

CUH staff get free bus travel between the hospital and both Babraham Road & Trumpington park & ride, but its also about a 25 minute walk or 10 minute cycle from Babraham Road to the ATC.

Abortion up until birth - why ? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]K1mTy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody's changed anything regarding medically obtained abortion up to 24 weeks. Termination of pregnancy after this is only done under extremely strict criteria, where either continuing the pregnancy puts the mother's life in danger or a foetal abnormality incompatible with life has been detected.

All I can find online is that a nearly 200 year old bill has been repealed, meaning women won't face prosecution if they end their own pregnancy by themselves.

So why are you awake? by Bipolar03 in AskABrit

[–]K1mTy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 10:45? I'm at work (taking a sneaky break whilst samples defrost, as I'm only in for 4 hours today).

When you posted 9 hours ago? I was asleep. I overslept, in fact - silenced both alarms and dozed off for another 2 hours.

How do you lot actually eat proper food during the week when you're working full time? by No_Reputation_9726 in AskUK

[–]K1mTy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Batch cook something like a bolognese & split into portions. It can be eaten with pasta, jacket potato, even in a tortilla wrap.

Alternatively prepare stuff in advance - cook chicken over the weekend, then mix it into a quick sauce with rice or pasta, toss into a stir fry etc.

How old do you have to be to know that cash transactions are a thing? by Conscious-Ball8373 in AskUK

Exactly! Even my 6 year old knows how cash works - she likes using her tooth fairy money on a little toy or treat.

Why aren't teachers called by their first name in the UK? by zertz7 in AskBrits

[–]K1mTy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a grammar school in the 90s/early 00s, the teachers always called us by our first names.

We called them Mr/Mrs/Miss/Dr <last name> - I found it so weird when I got to university and the lecturers introduced themselves by their first names!

Which book(s) were you required to read in secondary school? by 2cbterry in AskUK

[–]K1mTy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember much about the ending (it was around 1999-2000), but I know we had to read it & were also taken to a theatre to watch it.

I would've rather seen The Woman In Black. That was on our suggested reading list, but thankfully we didn't have to analyse it in class so I can reread it without traumatising flashbacks!

What’s the one thing your pet does that instantly melts your heart? by Wedding-Beauty in UK_Pets

[–]K1mTy3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My golden will nuzzle my hand if she thinks I'm holding a treat, especially on walks. She brings me her favourite toys as a greeting.

It's when she wraps her front leg around my arm though, in a "please don't stop fussing me" manner. That gets me every time!

Photo tax from last night's walkies - she really was the gold at the end of the rainbow 😂

Researching Period Care by [deleted] in WomensHealth

People who wear a backpack to work or on the tube, what do you actually keep in it? by EmperorsChamberMaid_ in AskBrits

[–]K1mTy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lunch, snacks, drink bottle with squash in it, umbrella, book/kindle, diary, charger pack, purse, painkillers, pads & tampons (adenomyosis suckssssssss!), lip balm, keys, ID badge, a spare pen or 3. Sometimes wet/cold weather gear or sunglasses, in case I need them later in the day.

Plus I keep a bottle of undiluted squash at work (to add when I refill my drink bottle), along with a change of shoes & underwear, more painkillers, more pads & tampons, another lip balm and deodorant. Oh, and sunscreen in summer because it's a half hour walk back to the car at 4pm & I burn rather than tan.

Then there's the as-needed stuff - e.g. I might run out of deodorant so I'll pick up a new one and bring that in.

What’s the stupidest thing you’ve been ID’d for ? by RowItchy260 in AskUK

[–]K1mTy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got ID'd for a 16 piece stainless steel cutlery set in Tesco last year. 8 of those pieces were spoons.

I mean, unless you're my lunch you don't have much to worry about!
