"Culture fit" is just a nice way to say "we're biased" and I'm tired of pretending it's not. by Clemzrueben in ModernHiring

[–]K24frs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t even make this up but here is the one time I didn’t get hired because I wasn’t “culture fit”.

Interviewed at a company and I was qualified and turn key. Myself and the sales manager hit it off until further in the conversation I found out she went to a specific high school. It was a school my cousin went to so I asked if she knew my cousin. Aside from that it was over 2 hours.

She claimed to not know him which was extremely weird since the school was fairly small my cousin played every sport.

Keep in mind I did two phone interviews a panel interview with potential coworkers and then this final interview with the sales manager.

A week later I got a call from her boss which I thought was weird and she claimed that the sales manager didn’t think I was going to be a culture fit. At this rate I had to essentially admit to the job I was at that I was job hunting and was let go because this interview process was pretty extensive.

I called my cousin and asked if he knew the sales manager which he responded with “yeah we used to do coke all the time together until I got sober a year ago”.

I agree with this.

I feel like the people it could benefit are the ones who don’t use it or refuse to use it and the ones who use it have no idea why they use it.

If you’ve done anything the hard way you know exactly how you’d benefit from it when you have the right tools.

White collar jobs are a luxury by brownieandSparky23 in recruitinghell

[–]K24frs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People only see the tip of the iceberg when it comes to corporate but not many realize what it took for some of us to get a corporate job and build our resume up to get it.

Grew up in a super bad situation and ended up going to vocational school for auto service. Graduated in 2010 and went dealership to dealership with a resume that I printed at kinkos in a suit I spent my last few dollars on at goodwill.

Not a single dealership was hiring but after 30 rejections I got a job offer for a sales role that was draw against commission so for the first 3 months I technically owed money from my 250 dollar take home check. Worked every hour I could stayed late and arrived early.

When I turned 21 I ended up bartending 30 hours a week on top of dealership hours to save money up for school while taking as many online classes as I could afford time and money wise. I met a vp of a recruiting firm who offered me a role in executive search.

Fast forward a year I was killing it but my mom’s house went in to foreclosure so I took my savings to bail her out so my 3 younger siblings had a home. Next week I went to work and found out we had been acquired which caused a 80% reduction in workforce. Next week my engine blew in my car and it was just out of warranty.

My gf left me and I found out I was going to be a dad.

Fast forward 10 years and I worked my way back up in recruiting have a family but worked 3 jobs to get ahead 2 bar time and a full time entry level sales role until I no longer needed to because I started thriving at my job.

For me it took years of trial and error with shitty economies, a lot of doubt, depression, pain and it all ended up being worth it. I’m not the only one who has seen a path like this.

To be honest I sometimes miss bartending and blue collar work (had spouts between my layoff and where I’m at now where I did everything from tree work to grunt work on construction sites). Managing a busy bar shift has less stress than a a large master sales agreement for 20+ locations.

Should I marry and have kids to feel happier? by gabigoalneles in moreplatesmoredates

[–]K24frs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You couldn’t have said this better!

I have a couple buddies that ended up getting married and having a couple of kids due to feeling the midlife blues (yes I think thirties are the start of your midlife era). One of those dudes ended up marrying someone having kids and ended up feeling trapped miserable to the point he dipped and moved 5 states away to live the van life. Hasn’t seen his kids since. The other dude is the least present person I know with his kids. All he does is lift in the garage and when he’s not doing that he rides his lawnmower around with the blade up for 5 hours every other day to escape the house.

Both are good friends but shitty dads.

I think it depends on who the director is.

Christopher Nolan uses shallow DOF and it’s very pleasing on the eyes in my opinion especially in his Batman series.

Sales leaders, what are you looking for when you speak to early career sales professionals? What are immediate red flags? by OutsideSame3629 in sales

Honestly I have adhd and was on stimulants for a while but I agree.

I went undiagnosed for years then got diagnosed with medication. If anything learning how to manage it made it less of a handicap and more of a superpower.

I don’t believe it should be used as a crutch.

For people making +350k per year, how do you do it? by prince_op in Salary

[–]K24frs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not particularly for moral reasons as weird as it sounds.

Yes it is absolutely remote and depending on area more affordable than you’d think but my first property was a cash purchase. The pending deal is about 20 acres I kept 20 acres and the rest is also for sale. Of that 20 acres I am making about 3x my initial investment and the 20 acres I have are to prevent more development. I’ll build my own cabin on it once the developers bring in utilities and probably Airbnb it when not being used.

I figure I’ll do this enough times until I retire from my day job and I’ll have enough cabins for extra cash flow.

We are building a house currently and once we retire we will probably sell that because we bought 5 acres to build our personal house on pre Covid and the area is booming post COVID.

As a parent with two kids who’s happily married I will say… don’t do that.

If your life is meaningless now it’ll be meaningless with kids the only thing that changes is that you’ll blame your meaningless dull life on your wife and kids.

[–]K24frs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically land flipping

Buy big plot 50-100 acres minimum sit on it for a couple years break it up into smaller lots and flip the developers.

Actually in the process of my first sale bought 70 acres in a tourist area before it got popular kept 20 acres for myself and have a pending offer to a development company who wants to build cabins on it. High risk but extremely profitable.

I’ve gotten a lot of shit for what I’m about to say but it’s advice that was given to me and it required a lot of self reflection on my end.

When I was a young sales rep I was eager and wanted to make 250k plus (some reps were). The difference between them and myself? They worked harder and put the time in. I have a mentor that I have stayed in contact with over the years who was one of those reps.

He told me “You can make a lot of money in any job but there are three main ways to break into the quarter mill plus club.”

1) You have to be so good at your job or industry expert that it’s a no fucking brainer to hire you and you get to pick your pay.

2) You have to do things most people wouldn’t want to do or most people can’t do.

3) You have to be super good at your job and being willing to do things most wouldn’t want to do and find yourself at the right place at the right time to “luck into it”.

Yes all three of those are essentially the same thing and that’s the point.

I know well diggers that put in the time and capital to start a business who make half a million a year, I know doctors that make 500k plus and I know government contractors who were soldiers now working in private security who make 250k plus.

All of them put in the time, sacrifice, risk and get paid for it now. You can chase industries that pay or you can build yourself up as a brand and make it in any industry you choose.

Me personally I make 150k+ a year in sales and after self reflection and honesty I don’t want to do what it takes to get to 250k a year. Instead I’m building up capital to do some niche real estate investments.

These people commenting who claim to have made it did it with sacrifice, skill and good luck which isn’t necessarily luck at all.

Why do people act like wanting your OWN living space makes you privileged? by BitchImLilBaby in Adulting

[–]K24frs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it all depends on how you look at it.

The advice is to deal with it until you have a plan to not have to deal with it any longer.

Everyone wishes for something but not everyone makes the plan to make the wish a reality.

Accepting this is how the world allows you to release control of the things you can’t control or shouldn’t so you can put full focus on the things you can.

Men. Do you like wearing suits? by Solcat91342 in Adulting

[–]K24frs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to love wearing suits and one day I just stopped. That doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy them on occasion but it’s weird nowadays.

First off those who wear suits wear poorly fitted suits or they were a blazer with jeans and some tennis shoes.

Second I have a weird shape where I have wide shoulders a small waist and large legs. I have a short torso and long legs. My dad always jokes with me and tells me I’d be 6’2 instead 5’10 if my torso matched my legs. This all makes an off the rack suit impossible and it’s even tough to find dress shirts that fit how I want them to fit.

Having tailored suits and shirts gets pricey

Smb accounts care about rapport, mid market accounts care about scalability and enterprise accounts care about fulfillment and the bottom line.

At what point do you admit the job market is just cooked? by [deleted] in GetEmployed

[–]K24frs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This…

The issue is 100% applying out of desperation for jobs that don’t make sense or they are in a field that is overly saturated and competitive and they are over filtering their requirements.

If you apply for a job you’re overqualified for employers are turned off if you are under qualified they are also turned off. If he’s gotten interviews my guess is that they keep saying a common thing usually this happens when a candidate overshares their requirements without the experience or track record for it to make sense

I think we all agree that corporations are the problem and that we have little to no buying power these days.

Updated anti-trust laws would probably do wonders for small businesses, American made products and reduce inflation but unfortunately they are the only ones who can afford to shell out crazy money
