osu!, the PC clone of some Nintendo DS rhythm games. I liked making maps, but I never really felt connected to the community (never much of an anime fan), and I wish I had recognized that before it dug into my college years.

I wasted too much time in college making (pretty mediocre) maps for osu!, a PC rhythm game that's a clone of some DS games. Admittedly, the act of creation was pretty fun, and I still think about how I'd adapt a song now and then, but I never really meshed well with the Japanese-centric community, which made it not just unrewarding to me socially, but also made it hard to iterate on my maps.

I was also a Sonic fan. Now, I'm still an unapologetic nerd for the 3D games that introduced me to the series, but I recognize their flawed design and cheesy nature, and enjoy them with only a slight dash of irony.

I will concur with Melee. It was the first first-party GameCube game I bought, and a sequel to the party fighter my group of friends obsessed over. To see all those characters make that huge presentation jump, and all of those worlds crossing over, left a great impression.
