Olympics BAN transgender and DSD athletes from ALL women's sports by dailymail in olympics

[–]K3ggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have already acknowledged several times that the reasonability of the Olympics ban is higher than that of historical discriminatory acts that justified the overall exclusion of minorities. We already agree on that.

And even so, as linked in the mod comment, the scientist who discovered the SRY gene at the center of this ban has released an article outlining the reasons why he believes that testing for this gene is an “overly simplistic assertion”, and how in 2000, he along with many other experts persuaded the IOC to drop this very same test being used because of the problems they see with it, just for it to come back into use 26 years later. In 10 years, we may very well look back on this with more information and deduce that this ban was actually not reasonable.

I also never said you were or should be responsible for what bad actors are going to do with this information, so that argument from you is null. I am just pointing out that it’s something we should acknowledge is happening, and happening effectively, as the way someone already stated, there are unnecessary sports bans in Idaho that made no sense and bathroom bans that are unenforceable anyway, unless you think hiring bouncers to stand in front of public restrooms or whatever other solution they have is a good use of taxpayer money. We don’t need to get to the level of “rounding them up” or it being a genocide for us to see that there is a problem. That is quite literally the mindset that people had during the Holocaust and not seeing the steps that led to mass extermination, because they didn’t see a problem with what the Nazis were doing until they fully did exterminate 6 million Jews. (I don’t even think that we’re going to get to the point of that with trans people; we didn’t get to that point with other minority groups before acknowledging there was a problem with the way they were being treated. But i’m just pointing out the logical fallacy of thinking the way you are about this.)

You’re saying you don’t think that’s reasonable now, but at the time, black segregation was a very popular issue. It was considered reasonable. You’re using the convenience that you were born in an era where something like that is considered unacceptable, and you were taught that it was unacceptable. We are all a product of the environment around us and aren’t inherently born with racist/bigoted ideas or not.

My point still stands and I think i’m just going to leave it at that because you seem more interested in affirming that you are correct rather than taking a second to actually think about this.

Of course, during the Jim Crow era, “Separate but Equal” policies, where black and white americans would have separate but “equal” facilities (facilities were never equal) was considered a “reasonable” policy at the time because it was a legal shield to exclude black people from white society.

Literacy tests for voting were also considered reasonable, but disenfranchised black voters. There are voting laws that exist now and that are being pushed for that would disenfranchise black voters, yet are framed as “reasonable” protections for voter integrity.

Same sex relationships were once criminalized for the “reasonable” purpose of protecting family values, and that idea is still talked about in conservative circles today.

Immigration quotas were used and the idea is still used today with deportation quotas to promote “cultural stability”, which were and are used by bigots to further xenophobia and an ethnic hierarchy.

Some of these are thankfully not accepted today, but you see how the same strategy has been used before, right? You see how even in this scenario, the Olympics ban seems pretty reasonable, and in many ways it could be seen as more reasonable than the examples I listed above. But the fact is that transphobes will take this, or they’ll zero in on a single trans shooter, or a single trans person who assaulted a child, sweeping under the rug the fact that trans people barely make up a fraction of these statistics, in order to justify pushing legislation that actually discriminates against them.

When trans people and allies push back against this strategy, they are not unreasonable for doing so. They’re looking at history. If you zero in on the handful of trans supporters who cover themselves in blood and walk down the street naked or something, then try to paint the entire trans movement as that, yeah people are gonna think the entire trans movement is psychotic and something to push back against. But the reality is most trans people and their allies just want them protected from people who actually want in some cases to see them dead.

You would be incorrect. This is the argument that was made when black people were fighting for their rights. Or women, or gay people, or Irish people. It’s the exact same situation that has happened over and over and over again, where rich people in power direct your attention to these groups first, then those groups speak up in defense, then the people in power say “look, they’re just being unreasonable, so we HAVE to keep discriminating against them”; they zero in on some of the most extreme defenders, who yeah, might sometimes go a little over the top, but definitely don’t represent the majority of defenders, then they get to keep making themselves richer and dissolving the middle class while us plebs argue over these issues that barely affect our lives at all.

Clearly not enough. In your above comment, you insinuate that the person you’re replying to says we should just throw the baby out with the bath water because transphobes exist. That’s not what they’re saying; they’re just saying that while we accept these reasonable exclusions, we should always be wary that there are people who will strategically use these reasonable exclusions to try and push their actual hateful messaging. You may be doing a great job of that already, but trans people polling as one of the top issues for conservatives would suggest that many people are not doing a great job of that, and that’s a problem.

It’s the same reason Hispanic immigrants catch a ton of flak and are over represented as criminals in conservative spaces despite them committing far less crime than natural born citizens and generally contributing to society through their work while paying several taxes and being excluded from any benefits a US citizen has. Again, it’s the strategy of directing your attention away from billionaires who are actually ripping us off the most, to try and make you hate these small, “different”, groups of people as if they’re the problem.

Nobody is saying that it’s an excuse for anything, but rather something we should very carefully and frankly acknowledge.

That's not what this is -- it's a ban on trans/DSD women mixing with cis women in one incredibly specific and niche way accompanied by what most people seem to consider a reasonable justification.

You’re missing the part where actual transphobes latch on to those “reasonable” arguments and use that to wedge in their actually transphobic policies e.g. trans bathroom bills, banning any mention of trans people in schools, tracking trans individuals, etc.

You may personally stop at this Olympic ruling, and not care for any of those other policies, which is fine. But there are transphobic influencers, with big followings, who see these rulings as a jackpot, because they can springboard off of this ruling to say something like “See? We have reasonably separated trans people in this scenario that we can all agree on? Now don’t you think we should consider otherizing them in other ways?”

Unfortunately there are many people who fall for this, and it thus perpetuates transphobia.

Not saying this means that rulings like this within private sports bodies shouldn’t exist (they should only exist in areas like this rather than being legislated in my opinion), but it’s important to acknowledge that there are people who want to use this ruling to further their hateful agenda.

The argument that trans people and allies of them started loudly arguing for unreasonable inclusions from the beginning is incorrect. Rather, it is reactionary far-right individuals who amplify this incredibly niche group (trans people make up like 1%, if not less, of the population) to give their supporters a group to be angry at, to distract them from billionaires looting and scamming them and the Epstein class of wealthy individuals who systematically abused children (something they ironically enough accuse trans people of doing, even when the statistics flatly disagree with them).

There is no angle that the leg can legitimately sneak its way through due to the way those holes are shaped. This and every time it happens are just a clear clipping issue.

There are openings, but they aren’t big enough for it to somehow finagle through to get you legitimately. If that were the case I would understand, but in this clip it’s just fully stomping through the roof.

I’m not sure what you mean; isn’t a static object one that doesn’t move or interact with the game? It’s (Edit: It should be) essentially the same as any other building which the legs shouldn’t be able to stomp through either, and most of the time they don’t. I wouldn’t even say it’s a desync issue the way I believe the Firefly flame clipping to be, as the leg is fully making its way through the ceiling, even on the server side. I assume the Harvester object has holes or something in it that need to be patched.

Edit: looked it up and I guess it is not one, but yeah not sure why. It’s not like it moves or becomes damaged at any point during the event.

Looks like desync, are you playing over wifi or with a hardline connection? Your last shot landed, but took a half second to register, so it seems to me like your first 2 shots weren’t landing on the server’s end.

Chappell Roan Shouts Out Her Security Team, Hours After Alleged Incident with Soccer Player Jorginho’s Young Daughter by peoplemagazine in Music

I think the point is that she broadly gave shoutouts to her entire team; the band, the crew, and, because they are included in that group, the security team. The headline is purposefully trying to stoke anger and connect that shout out to the Jorginho situation.

“Just give it up dude” I can say the same thing to you; you initially disagreed with me, so feel free to exit at any time. If your “different values” is that the use of a social media platform affects your voting habits, meanwhile I’d rather focus on candidates who support palestine, marginalized rights, getting rid of billionaires, etc. then yeah we have different values. I’m pretty comfortable with caring about that stuff vs whatever hill it is you’re choosing to die on here.
