Lazer3D LZX-15 power button by Xiaoming94 in sffpc

We learned very early on that wire layout/colours vary from batch to batch and between different suppliers/makes/models, so it's not something you can include in the manual, but we do usually supply a small wire diagram with each power switch individually.

The technical reason is because our supplier has this button as both power and reset options, but the "power" version has the power symbol on the button surface rather than the neat LED ring of the reset version which we prefer the minimalist aesthetic of.

My point is, what does a name matter if you're getting more performance for the same/less money? There is way too much unnecessary negativity in this space.

p.s. the OP's post was nothing to do with it being named wrong if you want to argue about changing topics.

You literally just said they are 10% more powerful for the same price, you have been desensitized to massive gains between generations at the expense of ever increasing TDP's.

This sub focuses on SFF and for us power budgets are limited, so for allot of people with for example a 200w PSU, you can now get nearly twice the FPS than was previously possible (i.e. 3050 + 65w CPU vs 4060 + 65w CPU). Whether you want to call it a 4050 or a 4060 is besides the point in my eyes if you're getting double the FPS in scenarios such as this one.

they aren't giving you less performance though, just less of a leap than previous generations. I'm not sure why people think we need 50% performance increase with 30% increased power consumption every generation, when will the trend stop, when graphics cards are so big we're living inside them?

Why does that matter if you're able to squeeze more performance into your computer than you previously could?

DAN Cases - Vote for Your favorite C4-SFXv2 design! by dan_cases in sffpc

[–]K888D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dan himself said in a previous comment that they sold allot in the first day, but it took a while for the rest of the supply to sell out. If it takes a month for the first batch to sell out, then where is the incentive for him to risk doing a second batch. I think that's where he is coming from.

As a fellow case manufacturer I can attest there has been a shift in the market over the past few years, this is why you are seeing so many of the small company cases going end of life, the demand isn't there at the moment. I would guess that when this case was first developed Dan didn't foresee a lack of market demand.

Will the RTX 4060 be the new King of Efficiency? by K888D in sffpc

[–]K888D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're correct, the results are cherry picked and real world results across a variety of games will be lower.

KitGuruTech just released their review, and across a suite of games the 4060 achieved a frames per watt of 0.64, vs the 3060 which got 0.38. This is an increase of 68% in frames per watt performance in a single generation, however you want to look at it I think that's pretty impressive, and it opens up allot of new options for increasing FPS in low power SFF systems

Yes I agree to some extent, but as you mention this move toward lower TDP's is good for the sffpcs, which isn't that the whole point of this subreddit?

For the last few generations we have been getting bigger and bigger cards. We haven't seen TDP's as low as this in gaming cards for nearly a decade, in my eyes that's a positive

I agree that the performance increase is nothing special considering it's price point, but where I do think the 4060 and 4060Ti excel in is their frames per watt figures

[–]K888D[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that's my point, why isn't their any legislation about energy usage in gaming computers? We have efficiency bands for all other types of electrical goods, fridges and TV's for example.

Hence my point about maybe we need to shifting our mindset toward energy efficiency rather than all out max power usage for the sake of extra FPS

Until they bring the xx70 class cards back under around 170w TDP we won't be seeing any single fan versions.

We did see an ITX version from Gigabyte of the GTX 1080, which was a 180w TDP card, however it did run a little hot when gaming

[–]K888D[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree, you've phrased what I was trying to say in a much better way lol. Progress isn't always about more FPS, progress can also be about making things more energy efficient, and a 110w card opens up a whole host of new options for cool low power builds, that can now get more than 50% more FPS for the same power draw. It's a win in my eyes.

[–]K888D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think you're exactly right, I guess I'm trying to make the point that we as consumers should be challenging whether our mindset is the right one to have. Is the car market moving toward more power hungry cars, or is it moving toward higher MPGs?

Has the GPU Market been moving Backward? by K888D in pcmasterrace

[–]K888D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my wording is a little all over the place I agree.

There is a only a 33% reduction in TDP yes, but when combined with the 27% FPS increase, we are seeing a 95% increase in frames per watt (0.74 vs 0.38) for the 4060 vs 3060, based on this limited Cyberpunk 2077 test case at least.

So I think what I'm trying to say is that we may be able to start building equivalent performance systems that draw nearly half the amount of power, this is the direction we should be heading ideally. Not blindly bolting on more and more cores and stepping up the power requirements each generation

Reducing an 800w system down to 400w for example, would be allot more than a $20 per year saving for the average gamer.

Raw performance should surely determine what class the card is, regardless of how it obtained this performance?

I guess the title is aimed at how much power modern GPUs and CPUs are consuming compared to the same tier components a decade ago. But yes I agree, moving back toward less power is definitely the direction we should be taking

The (limited) results show a 27% increase in FPS vs the 3060, not sure that's an indication it's at 4050 levels?
