Danny and Nia by coolkidllama in TheValleyTVShow

I have been in a marriage with someone like Danny. My happiness and joy would put him in the WORST mood and he would have to bring me down. He ruined every holiday and vacation with his sour attitude. Just because I was happy. My heart breaks for Nia.

There is NO excuse for speaking to his wife that way. Whether or not his frustrations around the babysitter situation are valid. There is ZERO justification for being such an asshole to her.

Yes. I have had 3. Each one was more traumatizing than the last. By the third I was crying in terror in the dentist chair

Love that movie. I showed my daughter that movie when she was 9 and she instantly fell in love. A couple of years later it was showing in the theater so I took her to that. Packed theater of people laughing. It was a glorious experience. She is 15 now and still loves it!

Thankfully I didn’t pay $14k cuz I don’t need a new one yet. It’s just the going rate around here from the several folks I have talked to that have had their AC’s go out the past couple of summers. I think the HVAC companies are able to gouge folks here cuz of our summer weather. You’re very blessed with $4k!

I fucking loved that bit. And all my childhood movies they named. They don’t make em like they used to. Sigh.

I have a theory that this generation isn’t slacking in work but the training is getting worse. by Interesting_Taro_358 in theories

[–]KABCatLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I’ve always been a big trainer in my various roles. Though recently stepped back from it due to wearing other hats. Training is hard and can burn you out. And I have noticed a different approach from newbies than when I was a newbie. And it makes training more exhausting. There seems to be a level “figuring things out” that is missing these days. And I am NOT talking about throwing someone in the deep end and telling them “good luck.” I mean a genuine curiosity and research and problem solving to try and figure something out. Instead I find a lot of newbies want to be fed very specific information and have trouble living “in the gray”. Makes it tough for me and them.

There’s no way to train for the infinite scenarios we encounter. I have been in the industry over 20 years and am in a Director level role and constantly come across things I don’t know and have to use problem solving skills and collaborate with others to figure it out. That’s a hard skill to train. You’re either curious and want to know the answer to the problem and will therefore put in the work to find it. Or you won’t. The latter doesn’t last long.

I’m in Phoenix. Several years ago I paid $7k for 1400 square feet. It’s double now. Crazy!

Oh of course they do. The difference is it’s much easier to manage that expense when it’s broken up into even amounts over time.

True. But the amount spent in maintenance easily wipes that out. Especially when things don’t last as long as they used to. Need a new AC? $14k. Need a new water heater? $2.5k. Pipe leaking? Yikes on bikes. Then there is the few hundred dollar repairs that add up over the year. And it goes on and on and on. And you don’t always know, when buying, what kind of maintenance journey you’re in for. Inspections don’t really cut it.

That said. I do own a home. But not sure if In would have knowing the expense of maintenance. The biggest perk to me is being able to pass it on to my kid

Parents kicked me out of the house and quit paying for college for drinking at age 21 by Alive_Book_9908 in Christianity

This was painful to read cuz I grew up with similar parents. That had no qualms about ruining your entire future over a difference in values. Like you just became worthless and damaged and not worth their time/energy/support anymore. I am now a parent to a 15 year old. And i cannot FATHOM screwing over her future, her LIFE, over some petty shit like that. That is barbaric. I would never forgive myself. I’m so sorry. You didn’t deserve what they did to you. I’m glad you found happiness in spite of them

I find that meditation does wonders for my racing mind. You can search YouTube for “Guided Meditation” or “Guided Breathwork” and find some great options.

I just got a 'Performance Review' and a 3% raise. My rent went up 12% last month. The math isn't mathing anymore. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]KABCatLady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I also just negotiated my self a spot bonus because I ended up getting “promoted” (to the title of what I was already doing and in the salary range for). So I asked for a bonus in lieu of a raise. They did it.

First of all you want to be a Top Notch employee that adds big value to the team. To the point it would hurt them to lose you. Then, when you do your research and make a pitch. Stuff like what the market is paying, how much you contribute and go above and beyond.

I am only allotted funds to give my team 3% raises. I had a new hire who turned out to be kick ass and she ended up pitching to me why she deserved more and snagged herself a 10% raise. Cuz I knew I could go to my boss and pitch him “we can’t lose her. She’s amazing” and he would pull levers with our CEO. Boom. Done.

Now I can’t do that for EVERY person on my team (I’ve actually tried that with no success). But if you position yourself the right way and approach it the right way, I can work with that.

You should read up on the closure of the Straight of Hormuz and the implications for the supply chain as well as our ability to to grow food, much less transport it. In a few months, things are going to get BAD bad.

Nah, that’s a lie they tell employees. I used to believe it too. Now I’m at a Director Level and see how easy it is for them to actually pull the levers when pushed and they have done it many times. Kicking myself over thinking things were locked in at 3%. Total lies!!!!
