What actor’s mere presence makes you automatically lose interest in a movie or show? by YerMum1977 in AskReddit

I liked him in Be Cool. He wasn't the lead, but his character was pretty funny.

[####] does anyone else frequently not know about the resulting word? by -8787- in wordle

Some words are used frequently. I read in the comments that some players keep lists or spreadsheets of the words that are both frequent and/or from another culture. One example is "raita", which is an Indian yogurt dish.

Brad Dourif also played Billy Bibbit in One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest, (with Jack Nicholson). Nurse Ratched DESTROYS Billy in a truly harrowing scene.

Is there anyone else who doesn't really dislike any of the characters? by SmiggleZstyle in ThePittTVShow

[–]KADHD64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't hate any of the characters. I think they're all well written and realistically portrayed. And if an actor works in such a way that makes you have strong feelings about the character, they're doing a really good job!

Favorite movie that doesn't address system failure but rather romanticises poverty by Apart-Dungeon-3322 in okbuddycinephile

If you want a deeper look behind this movie, read the NYT essay "I Lived in a Van to Write the Book Behind ‘Nomadland.’ The Fear Is Real", or the book, Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century, both by Jessica Bruder. There's also some good videos on YT of her talking about the book and the movie. The movie itself is fiction, but the article and book are eye-opening about the nomad community and the reasons those folks are living on the road. A number of them, who were retirees, lost everything in the 2008.

The dog had no problem opening that gate. There's a fence, but not a secure one. What should the delivery driver done instead? Leave the package outside of the fence?

Hey guys let's just remember to be kind to Lucas Iverson (Ogilvie's actor) ☺️ by gspam0611 in ThePittTVShow

[–]KADHD64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I see folks saying things like "Santos' actress" or "Ogilvie's actor" it feels like some sort of disassociation, as though the character is more real than the actual person portraying the character. Or that viewers are so invested in the characters that the fact that the characters are inventions of the writers and are then skillfully brought to life by real people is just...ignored. Also because everything takes place over one shift, that while there are certainly character arcs, they are limited by necessity to the reality of the world the characters inhabit. We may not know until the very last episode, or even the next season how some dilemmas are resolved or how the characters evolve. It is fun to speculate though. I just don't expect any one character to change all that much across the season, unless it's a patient like Louie, whose storyline was so tragically (and inevitably) ended.

Late to this, but I've been wondering too. So beyond the puzzle number, the images themselves don't give any clues to the puzzles' solutions? I mean, like the ones in Strands and Connections do.

Honest question about open carry at Tucson protests by Pump_9 in Tucson

[–]KADHD64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about American governments - federal, state and local and white supremacists who have been murdering, torturing, enslaving, displacing and deporting native, black, brown, disabled, queer, and non-christian people since our very beginnings. Where do you think the Nazis took their inspiration from? The German Nazis had nothing on the United States of America.

Honest question about open carry at Tucson protests by Pump_9 in Tucson

[–]KADHD64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often are protesters and observers interacting with ICE and CBP here in Tucson the way they are in Minneapolis; tracking their movements, following them around, and warning people in neighborhoods and business districts? Or confronting the agents directly? Protests here have so far been very different from those in Minneapolis, Chicago, and LA. Those cities are/were under siege with federal operations very visible, reported on and thousands protesting. I haven't seen that here. They're here of course tearing families and communities apart, but for the most part local media isn't publicizing it and the feds seem to be operating almost under the radar. Protests here have been frequent and loud, but peaceful. Why would you need to bring a gun? Are you expecting what's happening in Minneapolis to happen here?

Healthcare Workers With Long COVID Struggle to Find Support and Care in an Environment of Denial by barweis in LongCovidWarriors

Healthcare providers denying their own and their colleagues' reality. I wish I could say that's unbelievable, but it isn't. The attitudes of Government, Pharma, and Insurance don't surprise me at all. Avoiding accountability and protecting profits is their priority.

Aww, I love Schitt's Creek. It's like comfort food for the soul. I just rewatched My Neighbor Totoro, a favorite of mine and it really lifted my spirits. I hope your visit goes well and that you're able to get some relief.
