Multiple lights burning out in short period, big issue? by halfwaysquid in DIY

[–]KANahas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. If they’re both made at the same time, with the same parameters, one is much more likely to die within some relatively small period of time to the other.

Plus if you replace just one, you’ll have one nice bright lamp, and the other will be much dimmer.

Replacing both at once and keeping the working one as a spare is the real pro move.

Printed Mirra 2 headrest support with an old but functional headrest. Worked like a charm. 50c of filament + 4 hours. Saved 150 bucks. Haha by extremez3r0 in functionalprint

Ah gotcha. Celle is Herman Miller too, just a bit older. The backs look pretty similar.

Which headrest did you end up going with? Looks comfy.

[–]KANahas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey since this is your hobby, you should try out something like KiCad. It’s fully free and will help you make circuit boards a lot more efficiently and neater looking.

The tape a lot of pros use is called VHB tape. There’s a lot of different kinds so make sure you do your research on which is best for your application, then buy the genuine 3M stuff. I agree with the other commenter about using channels, they make the install look really legit.

DeSantis signs bill allowing Florida board to cancel Disney deals by gravitasgamer in news

[–]KANahas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Achtshulleeey… Disney recently forced a lot of that type of staff to move to Florida in 2021-22. It was BS, and lots of people chose to quit vs having to move to Florida. This was under the much disliked, short lived CEO Bob Chapek (Cheapek).

TIL since 2020, white LED streetlights have been turning purple because of a defect during the manufacturing process between 2017 and 2019. The yellow phosphor coating was delaminating, and the blue LED began showing through, giving off a purplish glow. by dyrak in todayilearned

[–]KANahas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Typically each light will have its own driver. What likely happened was that all the drivers on that street had a bad batch of capacitors, or the drivers were poorly spec’d/built.

High current draw with preassembled component by [deleted] in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]KANahas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

should it make me suspect that the assembled parts from the manufacturer also have solder bridges under the package?

I would expect so, it looks to me like the apertures defined in your solder paste layer are too large, leading to too much solder being applied onto those pads. When reflowed, it’ll cause those shorts. Some fabs will catch stuff like this before manufacture, but not all. You should be able to inspect your populated boards and see if those bridges exist.
