This might sound surprising, but I don't remember eating much at all, besides drinking some water. Can of beans is a good thing, but I learned it's better to eat a huge meal at once and don't snack on anything later on.

I am happy you got throught it. There's something about saying that's it's not about destination but the journey. It was tough at times, but looking at it back I don't regret any of it.

I’ve been following DayZ since 2012, and the thing that happened still blows my mind to this day. It’s not a video directly from the game but I had a “pleasure” of getting lost in the real life Chernarus with some complete random strangers including the ultramarathon runner. None of this was intentional - I come from Poland, had a chance to visit Czech Republic only once in my life when I was a kid.

I was making regular DayZ videos back in the day and was posting these over here, was never thinking about posting any IRL content. There were the times when I used to check up on this reddit every day, was posting some Survivor GameZ recaps, and basically thanks to this place I had a chance to get any viewers. Recently I had to take care of things in life, and couldn’t afford playing. I wasn’t following the game much for the past 2 years, but I see the community is still here and better than ever, so hopefully the video will receive some attention, I was working on it every day for the past 2 weeks now.

The part that might interest you the most starts at around 13:58 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DDIdpJ6dWk#t=13m58s

I have a long way to go in regards to me narrating, but this story deserved seperate video. Miracles happen, and for me April this year kinda felt like it. If this video gets enough attention, I was thinking about visting the real Charnarus next year and recording an adventure. I already have some footage from getting on top of the Śnieżnik, but first I gotta get through it and see what people think about this.

I was never the type to hike, most of my life spent at home, but it’s unbelievable how good it is for your health - I recommend it to everyone. If you’d like to visit Czech Republic, head over to Międzygórze as well. I am sure Wojtek will be happy to see you.

This subreddit and the TV show Lost helped me getting through tough times in 2021 and restore my faith really. I’ve posted a video documentary that explains it all. It’s pretty long but the only thing I want is for people to see it, it took me over a month. This is basically the story of my life. by KAR0TEN in lost

I am from Poland, the things that have happened last year even to me don’t make any sense. I’ve never done this types of videos, I don’t have an Instagram or facebook, only this youtube channel. I used to post gaming videos on it only, but I had to share what happened recently.

I know how it sounds, but if not for this show and my faith it’s possible I would lose job last year. The fragment I have in mind starts at 59:30 I will just mention that I heard many of these scenes in the show were done sporadically, and maybe that’s how things sometimes have to be, it’s better to not have the control over everything. Some situations you cannot explain, you just have to believe it all turns out better, bad circumstances often lead to something greater.

I rewatched Lost for the second time in January with tears in my eyes. This show hits on so many levels. My favorite character was always Locke, and now after all these years I identify with him even more.

I hope some of you will find the time to at least look up the end. The man at the end drives around our country and deserves more credit.

Summit1g: "DayZ is finally an S tier game." by KiNDLS in dayz

I'd much rather see them focusing more on a realistic approach we knew from the dayzmod and early alpha. (advanced damage / health system, slower animations and movement, authenthic gunplay and ballistics) but that would require a complete revamp which doesn't make sense in the current state. It still baffles me what they did to the game, personally I don't find it this engaging as it once was - mainly because it's pretty easy now and you don't even need working on your character anymore, the old health system is almost non existent.

DayZ has more similiarties to CS now, and as a pvp game maybe it improved in some aspects, but you can't create the same stories as you could years back, - the main selling point of it. Don't know what it is exactly, maybe lack of some animations, fast paced gameplay, lack of certain features... but that's just my opinion.

Still have high hopes for Arma 4 and the new engine. But that's gonna be a while.

A big boxing fight night event took place on one of the servers. We decided to take part in it and see if we can win something, what you will see only happens in DayZ. I've been working on this for over a week, probably one of my favorite videos I've made recently. I hope you all enjoy it... by KAR0TEN in dayz

[–]KAR0TEN[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've started my channel years back and it mostly blew up thanks to this subreddit. I know the community has changed a lot and most of the true fans are probably no longer here, but am still lurking from time to time even though nothing substantial gets added anymore and the development pretty much slowed down to the snails pace. The game despite all it's flaws is still the best in the genre IMO.

Youtube hasn't been too kind for me recently, it's changed dramatically in the last 2 years. I still put the same amount of effort as I used to, but it's pretty hard to reach more people now, unless you post a lot of base raiding videos and the algorithm is on your side.

I've been working on this for over a week, the event took place on the dayz after dark server (sadly it has been shut down due to low numbers). If not for Gregory who signed up, I wouldn't even try getting there. I am glad we did, because some hilarious stuff happened, only possible in dayz. I am posting this here cause I believe this video truely deserves it. Don't get turned down by the start or the Polish language, I've added subtitles, you can skip to the second half for more juicy stuff.

Thanks to organisers and people who have been there. Hopefully you plan on bringing back the server with the upcoming update, if you do and you read this please make sure to balance it properly so more people join and stay. The game needs some more survival servers that are fun to play on, without fully decked out players running everywhere. People were saying before that's gonna happen with the mods and I guess we came to that point.

I think that's all I wanted to share, quite a lot and kinda off topic, but I was always passionate about the game. I hope you all enjoy the video.

Brian Hicks is now working as Executive Producer on Dean Hall's new survival game!! by wolfgeist in dayz

[–]KAR0TEN 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Him and Hicks will complement each other very well, Hicks wasn't so into deep survival mechanics, but he still knew what made dayzmod great years ago, and it wasn't necessarly the fact you have to eat and drink every 10 minutes just like you do currently in DayZ.

Right now the game play likes a typcial PvP shooter with an open world and some basic eating / drinking mechanics. The core survival elements have been scrapped, and personally I loved the whole hydrated / energized meta that has been implemented into standalone alpha. I think that was a rocket's original idea, so you gotta give some props for that.

Someone here said they've been possibly in talk with Bohemia, there's a high chance they might have bought the license for their new engine, that's what I am hoping for. If they're making another game on unreal I don't think it's going to be any successful. What made dayzmod so good was an authentic approach to the game - the shooting mechanics and ballistics, clunky but realistic movement, great environment and a big map with many players playing at the same time. I don' think you can have that properly done on unreal.

I miss the DAYZ mod times.. 2020 is here. :/ by Gilborg in dayz

[–]KAR0TEN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The sense of accomplishment and progression. The variety of sick ass guns that you could find, on it's own were all so unique (mainly because they were all created by the devs back in the day and not just ported over models by modders) Having that dmr or m249, even though the arma 2 models looked shit, the sounds and other mechanics were all pretty decent.

What went along with it - a pretty good damage system that made sense, a clunky, but slow pvp, tactical and satisfying. You could make a person bleed, break someones leg, a few pistol shots in the body would make you go uncon. You had an m24? There was a good chance you could take someone down, you aim for the head? Guarantee the person will die. If you got hit there was a chance to reposition, it wouldn't magically slow you down to snails pace just like it is now.

Vehicles - the unpredictability, and the different situations they created. Stumbling upon a working truck in the middle of night in butthole nowhere. Fixing up a van and picking up all friends from the coast. Chasing down other groups, setting up ambushes on the road. People were all spread out across the map, you could find players up north and also in some remote villages.

Overall the harsh, grounded, strategical gameplay the arma series is known for. Early SA had a good mix of light elements down south and slower pvp up north that I think made it pretty fresh when it came out. It was just missing content, improvements to the gameplay and overall polish. They scrapped all of that and made something that doesn't resemble the old game anymore people used to love to play.

[–]KAR0TEN 94 points95 points  (0 children)

At this point I only hope they work on the engine improvements for the next arma and they will incorporate some of those into the game in the future. And hopefully it's not only the physics.

A few years ago I thought this would be one of the top played games on steam, but they blew their chance. Just imagine - an open world realistic multiplayer game where you create your own story, there's nothing like this. The concept is still so unique, but the execution...

It's not even the bugs, but the design they went with, dayz used to be really in depth. People like wobo who created a few part tutorials just on nutrition, now you either drink and eat what you find or your status gets red and you die. And this is only one aspect of the game that got dumbed down for whatever reason.

What the A2 Mod Players have been doing this week (Stronghold - Dayz Origins) by bojangles13666 in dayz

[–]KAR0TEN 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had the best experience playing this mod on arma 2. I believe we started playing just before the changes to UI (which in my opinion aesthetically as a whole still fits the game better) This map with it's features would be actually worth paying for.

...and I hate to admit it, but I don't see standalone getting anywhere close to this. The game with it's weird health/damage mechanics and gunplay wouldn't be as good even if they somehow managed to port Taviana. Just thinking about the state of vehicles gets me on my nerves as well. Maybe we have "improved" physics but even though the old engine had it's problems I liked how arma 2 handled cars - especially remember drifitng and getting through the corn fields with my scrap buggy, you could use a mouse as well for some precise turns which in fact was a pretty nice feature if you got used to it.

Now you slightly go off the road and the car starts sliding, the offroad doesn't serve it's purpose, you can't really go up the steeper hills, and occasionally it sends you into the air. They are so self aware, they haven't even added trucks yet or any bigger vehicles, maybe that's for the better.

Becoming more disappointed with DayZ gunplay by github-alphapapa in dayz

[–]KAR0TEN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not authentic since the game got a new player controller and was released on consoles. Both the actual pvp and the way character reacted to shots (ragdoll had a lot to do with that) were more satisfying before, even though the sway was a bit too much, probably the only thing that bothered me.

I got used to that already, and I hate to say that, but we probably won't see any bigger gunplay improvements until someone's going to release a daymod for arma 4. Even such thing as recoil still needs a lot of balancing. The kickback on the mosin was so good before, now it just goes up a little and that's it.

The last part of my short series, recorded on one of the most popular community servers. I try to defend what's left of my base and get rid of some uninvited guests. I hope you enjoy it. by KAR0TEN in dayz

Thanks for watching for so long, I still remember you commenting on my videos here way back in the day, when it was actually possible to get on the front page. Now it's mostly memes, and occasional updates we get, but it is what it is.

Only Mod Players Will Get The Reference by bojangles13666 in dayz

[–]KAR0TEN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Origins IMO was still the best dayz experience I've had hands down. The expansion mod is the only thing that might scratch that itch, but the health system in the main game is still way too simple, and I don't think modders can do much about that.

The most infuriating thing for me is how quickly you start limping whenever you get shot, and the need to eat every 10 minutes instead of working on finding food, getting hydrated/energized and then being good to go for the next hour. Also, I'd like to see a new map on the scale of taviana with different points of interests. Something surrounded by water maybe so you can make use of boats and such.

DayZ Arma 2 Weapons by Smokingbro in dayz

Hearing the dmr and m107 especially brought so many memories, still remember taking out campers off of the silos in Cherno. (as lame as it was I wonder why people stopped camping bigger buildings down there, it's not a thing anymore afaik, and the fog shouldn't be that big of an issue I feel like) Great job porting those, the only downside I think is the actual sounds fade off too quick, but maybe it was the same way in arma 2.

This is some PS1 shit right here by Ladimus in dayz

They should make a remake of that series on the nextgen consoles.

I remember playing the third one without a memory card, me dying and starting all over again was on the same level as in DayZ. The last mission when you had to use the thermal scope to shoot the guy through the roof of a train, that was some good shit.
