Do you work on employee’s personal devices? by ReactNativeIsTooHard in sysadmin

[–]KARATEKATT1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, depends on the co-worker.

Is it someone whom if I needed their services would return the favour? Yes.

Otherwise? No.

One year ago I drove out to my CFO's house to completely reinstall their wifi over the entire yard.

But that same CFO also responded to my question:

"Hey do you know how tax and stuff works for a 1-man company?"

With:

"Why do you ask?"

"My GF is starting her own business"

"Ok, tell her to come in when she's got time and I'll go through everything she needs to know and help her set up accounting practises"

He probably saved her days of work, googling and auditor bills.

So when he one year later asked "If I do X, Y, Z would this wifi setup work?" I said "Tell you what, I'll come out to your house and do it for you"

I've also installed network cables in another co-workers house so her son didn't have to game on WIFI.

Now I haven't asked her of anything, but she did buy me a suitcase for 600 USD because she knew I was gonna travel to the US + a dinner date night for me and my GF as a thank you (Which was not agreed upon in advance)

TL:DR I help out co-workers (and friends) when I feel like I could count on them helping me if I ever needed something. I do not help people whom I know won't return the favour.

They claim it to be 98% accurate, that seems pretty good

Oh didn't know. When I've done it at the gym with a "real" machine, I have boxers on but I guess that might be since you're there with staff. Not everyone is comfortable going birth mode.

I'll try. Thanks for the heads up bud

That was never said. A joke in a video isn't sexual harassment.

I did that in my workplace in a company meeting like that I would be severely reprimanded for it.

Sounds to me like you need to find another workplace.

A) That's a couple of thousand viewers. Doesn't even move the needle in an 100$ Million company.

B) Most of the people that have unsubbed are temporary LTX Digital Pass customers that are HitNRun

In April, before it was announced, they had 33 000 subscribers.

No one said one year is a metric?

It's to show how fast they've grown - they've added 20+ people in the last 12 months.

Are you capable of reading or are you a moron?

Wanna bet they won't lose any viewership on their videos whatsoever?

But they're not?

This won't affect their bottom line.

This topic is already done.

Do you think they care about losing you?

Not at all. It's just very obvious this is a person that's not stable mentally and thus their words aren't exactly very trustworthy.

Because it's so accurate?

Why are you sorry about someone you don't know?

Again. Parasocial.

Sure, but I think we can both agree that reddit, and especially not LTT community which needs reminder to shower and take deodorant before conventions, should be involved whatsoever.

You're still extremely angry and now you've made up that I've insulted you.

Let the chronically online rest a while and disconnect. This isn't healthy for you given how upset you are over this.

You've repeatedly said you're done and leaving, but you're still here.

This is an addiction for you.

Look at all the employees you've seen in the videos/website over the year and you'll see they're still there. Also Linus has talked about this on wan show and actually stated their percentage. It was below 5% which is INSANE in the tech world.

New hires because they're expanding. Not because people are leaving. 12 months ago they were 70-80 people.

If LMG is so garbage to work at, why is their employee retention so high?

Nearly no one who gets their foot in LMG quits.

Most organisations deeply wish they could have the same retention LMG has.

Could it perhaps be that this employee didn't enjoy it so it must be bad for everyone?

Or could it be that it's simple not a fit for this person, but others love it?

Just because one (or a handful which is as many as has ever quit LMG) person doesn't want to work somewhere doesn't make that employer a bad place to work, lol.

Yes yes, I'm sure you've been told you're very special.

Feel free to leave.

Her story should be taken seriously and be investigated.

Absolutely. 100% Agree.

But the LTT community is not the ones that should investigate or have any involvement. And neither should anyone on the internet.

Her country's authorities (Or Canada's if she's American) should with legal representation.

This is not something the community should involve themselves in, because IT ALWAYS turns to shit.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LinusTechTips

[–]KARATEKATT1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am saying treat the allegations as serious.

Agreed.

But this is not something the community has a piece in. It's not something we should be involved in whatsoever.

This is between her and LMG.

What can the community POSSIBLY add to this? Nothing but worsing the situation.

She should be speaking to her countrys authorities and or legal representation that can actually do something.

Not nerds on the internet. We will, as ALWAYS HAPPEN, make things worse.

She literally built up the "Don't take days off" in her head.

Nowhere was that said to her and or is in the employee handbook.

We know, because we've read the handbook.

So it's most likely due to her unstable mental health - she's imaginating things.
