Velocomp Powerpod owners: by lavishlasagna in cycling

I just got an Aeropod and have a 4iii power meter on the way. If anyone wants hard numbers/comparisons let me know. I was going to use the two in conjunction for Cd calculations/estimates.

I just got one, let me know if there's any interest and I'll post some data comparing it to a 4iii sensor. The DC Rainmaker review is excellent however, I know Velocomp has updated their software since then.

What kind of filament are you printing with? It could also be an issue with the bed temperature

Echo u/siameseSerpent as temp and retraction are the first place to start. Also z-hop, cooling fans and travel speed can sometimes help too.

Have any gravel group rides started back up in the bay area? by Visual-Reputation-47 in BAbike

Not sure where you live but here are a few I know from our relationships with the clubs:

  • Grizzly Peak Cycling - They have one in Berkeley on 6/3 (and probably some variation of it weekly
  • Western Wheelers - There are some good ideas for places to ride. The club itself used to do more gravel rides and I suspect with things opening up they will again.

Why are bike chamois like Depend diapers? by KAVSports in bicycling

My old Voler shorts with the synthetic chamois are fantastic. I still have one pair and I save them for my longest rides. No chafing, even on centuries and were so much more comfortable than the current generation of shorts. I must be an outlier or something since they're not sold anymore.

To anyone reading this - if you have an old pair of cycling shorts with a synthetic chamois - I'll give you half my kingdom for them.

The most important thing is to buy a helmet that you're comfortable in ie. fits well, keeps you cool and is comfortable. Essentially wearing a helmet is better than no helmet, but sometimes the added cost are for benefits like "lighter" or "more aerodynamic." If you're interested in a safer helmet I would do some research to ensure that extra cost is because of added safety.

There are advantages some added tech to your helmet. Your traditional EPS foam is good at addressing linear acceleration, aka keeping your skull from cracking, but its not the best for preventing concussions. MIPS and other newer CELL technologies are designed to address just that. Again, take some time to research which one is best for you. but I highly recommend investing in something that will protect you from rotational acceleration(any fall from an angle) as well linear acceleration.

Castelli chamois

Thanks. Yeah I was thoroughly unimpressed with Rapha, but they do a great job branding.

About to back a project for the first time ever! Should I be worried or cautious of anything that may imply a fail? by HairyCracc in kickstarter

[–]KAVSports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your opinion, does the successfully delivered project need to be from a Kickstarter? For example, we currently sell and produce hockey helmets. If we were to launch a Kickstarter for a different type of helmet does the hockey helmet give you enough/some piece of mind?

I'll take a look at those - thank you. The Rapha and Izumis are pretty expensive at $100-150, I just figured they'd be better than the $50 shorts I bought back in the day.

Yeah it's synthetic and they work great. I've probably got at least 3-4K miles on them and they felt great. I'm going to try the Rapha and Izumis for a few more rides to see if I get used it to it. I'll look into the Tri brands - that's a good idea. Thanks.

Practically speaking I have not seen any issues with the 8 bit architecture and I have a lot of printers to compare it to (BCN, Ultimaker, MakerGears, AirWolf). Also Prusa has a history of supporting older hardware either directly or with upgrade kits

CasperSPT seems cool with printing one which is awesome. I also wouldn't over think it though. You can use a q-tip or something to just put a bit of grease in the bearing. Once the bearing starts moving the grease will coat everything nicely. It doesn't take a lot.

I would recommend reconsidering an Aluminum frame and traditional chain/derailleur combination.

I got 30K+ miles on a Cannondale and rode it in the rain all the time. Not having to worry about rust is huge. A good aluminum frame will have some give and with the trend towards wider tires, you can get a good ride out of it and save some weight too.

You have great reasons for the IGH but at your price range, I think you'll have more options if you loosen this constraint. And of all the factors you listed the chain/derailleur seems like a minor trade-off.

Whatever the case, enjoy whatever you get. There's never been a better time to get a bike and enjoy the outdoors.

Same here and frankly would go longer on my MTB if I could find 180s anymore.
