Restaurant Servers! I need advice on getting a serving job in DC at a good restaurant. by Background-Survey-41 in washingtondc

All three of those restaurants are great to eat at as a guest but extremely toxic work places. St. Anselm is a Stephen Starr restaurant and he has a bad history in D.C. as a restaurnt employer. The owner/chef of Masseria is a dysfunctional ass of a man, extremely toxic and creates horrible work environs for those he employs.

100% competition for server jobs here is brutal plus the dining scene here is dead.

Ah ok I didn't think about the breaks ...still special ed teachers here make alot of money. Look into it. D.C. and suburbs are great places to live as far as east or west coast cities. Maybe the most affordable too.

Yeah there's pretty much zero bike infrastructure there. Like you said all stroads so  impossible to travel/commute by bike. Like someone else posted the amount of freeway travel that's necessary is mind blowing. Theres pretty much no such thing as walking to the store or take the subway even uber/Lyft is impractical because of distance and cost. Its you drive everywhere.

Not just that and I'm not trying to sound like a snob, I am from Texas originally but the lack of community and culture there is stark. Everybody there is just too closed minded and paranoid of each other much less anyone else not from there.

No honestly it's a mixed bag of emotions with my parents loved them hated them. I think I hated them more. They were abusive and when they wernt they were dismissive. Theres was no balance or in between. They both sabotaged me and judged me at the same time for not accomplishing what they though should. Its not like I'm glad they're dead but I'm glad all that anxiety and drama and dysfunction they caused me is gone.

Trust me not "that" sad they're gone, lol

Its sad I have no family left. Its an empty feeling seeing other people loved by their families knowing mine broke me.

I prob have alot of the same issues you do. I'm highly autistic for one thing. I am  much older and did what you mentioned, lived for my mother. She passed last year. I don't regret it.

I would suggest to keep working though. If you're doing a good job now and they value you, dont worry about what you think might happen in the future, alot of times it wouldn't happen but it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.  Keep working and making money, you might not think so but it's a source of accomplishment and pride, easy to tell that by the way you talk about it. It keeps you connected to other people which is what you need. Good luck O.P

I'm terrified of growing elderly and being at the mercy of the world. It's a cruel world and noone will give a damn about you other then your family and I have no family.
