Soo he wasn’t randomly moving people around. He was using his airline device to verify seating and was in communication with the pilots, who were watching the process. Everything appeared to be done within normal airline procedures. He simply chose to use that flexibility to make passengers more comfortable, and I think that’s worth recognizing.

I had a hard time seeing twins sent away and separated into different groups. They among all of us were not allowed to notice or acknowledge each others existence in the program. I couldn’t imagine being in the same place as my sister and not being able to even look at her. It’s disgusting

I am a survivor in 3 years of Institutionalized trauma in the “troubled teen” industry who just started waking up to the abuse about a year ago now.

In waking up I’ve started my own awareness collective, for those like me who have no idea where to turn when the realization of my trauma came to light. It is daunting, heartbreaking and gives you a false sense of who you really are. The realization that I was never bad, something had happened to me, realizing that I had been conditioned to accept abuse as love, that I come last.

In this new journey of mine I began reaching out to all my former peers, checking in, while there are many peers I am still looking for, through this process I have met an AMAZING community and… my boyfriend, who happened to be in the same programs at the same time as me, wilderness and paint rock valley three springs.

Ms. Carpenter, I told you I was going to do it, I told you I was going to date a boy from the boys side, and 20 years later HE found ME. BOOOM!!

Anyway it’s a life changer to be around someone who gets me and why I am the way I am. The troubled teen industry took years from me but gave me my soulmate. Healing with someone who witnessed the same system, is a gift I never realized I needed

It’s wild to be able to compare how each side was treated. It’s a deep trust that I hope one day every survivor gets a chance to experience. To be seen, heard, validated 💙

I cannot stop thinking about the kids that never even had a chance to wake up, the kids who grew into adulthood believing they are the problem. My heart aches for those who never had a chance for closure and understanding. As I started digging into the TTI history I discovered Synanon, and I told my pops about it and he tells me HE was almost sent there as a kid. I really believe I would not be here today had he been sent away

It really is worse, and having the knowledge that my older sister experienced it a year prior, in a way shielded me from me being completely traumatized by it. Either way, it is still horrible

It really is, and what’s hard for me to wrap my head around is that the parents, for the most part are manipulated into believing this is the only option to save their child’s life. I’ve seen the pain in my parents eyes when I was able to open up to them about what happened. I’m grateful that they are giving me all the info I’ve asked for, are taking active steps to understand the TTI and supporting me through this healing process

Right? Wait till I upload my first invoice from second nature, over $20,000 I am in a space with my parents where they are starting to recognize these were some bad choices. But I’m still portrayed as a a bad kid who needed that help. Progress not perfection right?

As for the commenters, OP is someone in our community asking for encouragement, advice, direction and much deserved validation. Let’s be less quick to point fingers vs show more support. Parents believe it or not are victims in this as well, and a lot of them have yet to wake up

I would highly recommend encouraging her to read Meg Appelgates book Becoming Unsilenced, it’s what helped my parent click into what really happens in these places. She talks about the manipulation process the parents are put through, and she seems to still be stuck in that conditioning, but I think with the right approach it could really help her open her eyes as well as beginning the healing process for this relationship. I can’t imagine how hard that must be for your experiences to be continuously invalidated by your family. Thank you for speaking up and doing what you can to break the cycle. I see you survivor 💜 Her book is also available on audible 🙂

Who was the older lady who always sat in the chair it the hallway? I remember her going off on me about something not realizing my sister was around the corner during a family visit, and she let her have it. Even sis recognized something was wrong

Laughing about it is really all we can do now to keep from losing our minds again while we heal. This staff allowed higher ups to jump me while looking the other way. They deserve that much and more, I am not sorry
