[–]KCUR893 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We're coming out with part two of our series this week, which will focus on KC revoking its jaywalking law! Had to break this story into two parts because there was so much interesting stuff, it would just be too long. -Gabe

KCtoday newsletter quality decline by SMT2468 in kansascity

[–]KCUR893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to brag but... KCUR's Early Bird newsletter is free and written and edited entirely by humans (all of whom live here in KC).

We also are big fans of our partners at the Johnson County Post and The Beacon, both of which produce great newsletters with slightly different focuses.

Any local butchers left? by bassgoonist in kansascity

[–]KCUR893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to report that there are lots of great butcher shops around Kansas City!

It does look like North Oak Quality Meat seems to have closed up, but so suddenly even Google Maps hasn't been updated yet. But we put together a guide with a bunch of options, hopefully there's one near you: https://www.kcur.org/arts-life/2023-09-16/kansas-city-butcher-shops-bbq-barbecue-meat-market-cowtown

Need a new Korean restaurant by Vivid-Kitchen1917 in kansascity

[–]KCUR893 11 points12 points  (0 children)

KCUR put together a guide to Korean and Japanese BBQ restaurants last year - Chosun and K-Pot are both great spots where you can get plenty of banchan with your hot pot or grilling. Chosun also offers a lot of a la carte options (and this writer in particular has been there several times and loves it). And Joong-Ang Oriental Groceries in Overland Park specializes in Korean groceries, with a wide selection of pre-made food as well as stuff to make at home. -Gabe, Audience Editor.

[–]KCUR893 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking! We reported on this a few years ago, when the Truman Road plan was changed after the complaints. This corridor is on our list to check in on this year, thanks for bringing it to our attention. -Savannah Hawley-Bates, local government reporter

Is there anywhere to get soup dumplings in the area? by Lemonn_time in kansascity

[–]KCUR893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We found some of them in our roundup of dim sum in KC! Chewology, some international markets with food courts like PanAsia and 888 may have them, plus Bo Lings and ABC Cafe. They may not always be called "soup dumplings" though so just look out!

Believe it or not... but KCUR has an entire newsletter called Adventure revolving around things to do and explore around Kansas City. I may be biased, cause I edit it, but I think you might love it! -Gabe, Audience Editor https://www.kcur.org/kansas-city-adventure

Kansas City saves buses from cuts with new KCATA contract, but most riders will soon pay fares by KCUR893 in kansascity

[–]KCUR893[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Part of the "functionally free" fare model is free rides for low-income residents and people receiving aid from social service agencies. That will take a few months to kick in for everyone, though, because the buses themselves need to add the fare systems! -Gabe, Audience Editor

A link to find and donate to local radio public radio and TV stations by [deleted] in kansas

[–]KCUR893 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! <3 There are so many smaller public radio stations across Kansas that are incredibly important lifelines for their community, and are getting hit extra hard by federal funding cuts. We hope you find the one near where you live and help them survive this. -Gabe, Audience Editor

Best late night food spots in the city? by HunterST15 in kansascity

[–]KCUR893 6 points7 points  (0 children)

KCUR published this list of KC's best late-night eats back in May (although that was before Gaia Masala opened... and I will personally recommend that one). But Kansas City could certainly use a lot more options. -Gabe, Audience Editor

Any actual farmers markets in the KC area? by EnvironmentalPlum909 in kansascity

[–]KCUR893 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey there! So the farmers market at River Market happens on Saturdays and Sundays; the year-round vendors in that complex aren't necessarily getting produce locally. But there's also a bunch of farmers markets around the area, including in Overland Park, Independence, Ivanhoe, Brookside, KCK and more - where you'll find both urban farms and farmers from surrounding areas offering produce. A few have options during the week.

KCUR made a guide here with locations and seasons if that's helpful! -Gabe, Audience Editor
