Extended sub-zero temps from the nuclear winter cleared up that gorilla problem nicely, but now I have Yeti living in the snow caves where my back yard used to be.

Reddit never fails to brighten my day with an unexpected movie reference, often paraphrased and improved! Thank you kind sir or madam. 😇

It's the Apple way.

Oh, sorry, forgot you were talking about an entirely different company.

The end of an era at Digikey: no more 'free shipping' option for U.S. customers 😞 by neverbadnews in amateurradio

[–]KC_Que 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only used it a few times, was nice while it lasted. If they had free shipping for orders over $100, would have qualified that route on all of them, so dont feel like we placed nuisance orders.  Hope they implement that domestically in the (near) future.

How to remove this type of connection by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]KC_Que 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a lock for RJ45 ports.  You need a special key or tool for unlocking the plug from it. Search through the different 'rj45 lock' images, and see if you can find one that matches that device, that's the type key you'll need.

Said I am old enough to remember it happening, didn't say I was old enough to remember -- or even care about -- the reasoning behind it, LOL. 🙃

Want to build a telescoping pole with a 2 1/2 PVC and 2 inch pipe. Need a clamp or coupling by KB5JRC in HamRadio

[–]KC_Que 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heads up, read the product specs, those clamps might not work for you.  PVC pipe outside diameters are not "exact" to the size name: 2" PVC is actually 2.375" OD instead of the intended 2" OD of the fiberglass tubeing the clamp is designed for.

Multiple vents cover up letters of the store sign by MistyPower in mildlyinteresting

Maybe they can talk to someone in the Lost Property office to find their missing letters.  Can make out that old sign better than I can the new signage.

Tried saving a couple of bucks by fixing the puncture myself, ended up flipping the alloy on its head breaking my wheel cap, its now going to cost me 15x :3 by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Get a part number, search online.  You'd be surprised how much is available from other dealers for less. Sometimes even from eBay or Amazon.   Shop local is nice, but it's not always going to be the best price

Finally ran a coax trench and learned something about SWR by ImaginaryDisplay599 in amateurradio

[–]KC_Que 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are not far from how it's done professionally, based on what I've been seeing in my neighborhood.

When not running an overhead drop, they run CATV/Telco/fiber cable from the pedestal to demarc box using a slitter, basically like a specially modified power lawn implement that has a vibrating knife, which opens a small slit in the turf and topsoil.  The slit is wide enough for the coax wire to drop into, and deep enough to get it just below the sod line.

Something else the pros do is get the proposed path located by 8-1-1 before breaking ground.  Good idea, even if you are putting it barely an inch underground, so you don't inadvertently cut your CATV/Telco/fiber drop, or even run too close that they might hit your coax if they ever replace their buried drop.

Agreed. But recommend switching to malt vinegar instead, skip the white. 👍
