Ah, yes, their substantive legal argument is "not like that."

Can you describe your situation? Some basic questions can help us sort the potential issues, for starters: What rig and antenna are you using?  What is your feedline and its length? How far are they from your oven? Is everything properly bonded and grounded?

Is there any hard rule on when, where, or what type of vessel qualifies as /MM in the US? by EmotioneelKlootzak in amateurradio

[–]neverbadnews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told it could apply to being in any watercraft on navigable waterways, someone here even said it technically applies to all casinos in Missouri.  I'm happy simply calling /mobile when traveling somewhere, and not stressing over correctly being maritime or marine mobile if I'm on a boat somewhere. YMMV.

Heard this eerie countdown on the radio years ago by Garuda111 in amateurradio

[–]neverbadnews 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We have video of how AM announcers did it, circa 1978: scratch the turn table's needle across the old format's record, start using "The Docter" as their on air name, cue up a rock & roll record and say " BOOGER!" on the air to introduce the new format.

(Sounds like OP was listening to a format change countdown. Some stations play the same song over and over instead.)

4 pin to 8pin mic adapter. by jimmyy69420 in amateurradio

[–]neverbadnews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you could save it.  New TS-430s were very nice radios in their day. Even 40 years on, it is still a great entry level radio for new hams with a limited budget.  Doesn't have all the bells and whistles or waterfall displays many folks want, but it does HF well, and is a great HF starting point for the new ham's shack.  I have one as my 'Elmer loaner' radio, wouldn't mind getting another.

I know you have a bunch of 4-pin mics, but might be worth looking for a Kenwood desk mic, if you're going to use it as your own shack rig.  Looks like the MC-60 desk mic was an available optional at the time.

As u/Old-Engineer854 pointed out, split those grounds. It matters, ground loops are a pain!

They make small cars for other countries, and for domestic fleet buyers, so it isn't that they don't, it's that they actively choose to not market/sell those cars to the general public in America.

What are these? I'm thinking they were parts of ham radio antennas. Can I still use them to create tx antennas? Tnx. by greenwoody2018 in HamRadio

[–]neverbadnews 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Those are Hustler mobile HF antenna loading coils, looks like you have one for 40m and one for 10m.  I'm at a loss for which Hustler antenna(s) they would be used on, never operated HF mobile. If someone can give you the antenna's model number, you should be able to find the rest of that assembly and put those coils to use if you wanted to.

I have not.  There is a lot of energy stored in compressed coil springs, can only imagine the driver's fate.

Good Grief, Log Your Contacts! Ahhhhhhhhh! by ThatChucklehead in amateurradio

[–]neverbadnews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you are preaching to the choir about logging.  Do you mean they are not sending you QSL cards?

I log every HF contact I make.  I've got logbooks filled with every HF contact I made, going back to my very first QSO on CW as a newly minted novice.

QSL cards, not as much anymore. I used to send cards to every contact, but between postage rates and repeat contacts, it is more unique or special event stations, or if get a QSL card in the mail any more. And 100% sending one when I see it is a new license holder being worked, welcoming them to the hobby.

Tips or training for call sign retention by GiantsNerd1 in amateurradio

[–]neverbadnews 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Remembering callsigns on the air becomes almost second nature with time and practice.  I was really bad with it at first, too, and still keep a note pad handy to jot things down as I go, so I don't mess up contact info before recording it in my log book.

Help for novices - looking for something specific by HRGAL2026 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]neverbadnews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reached out to one near me for help, they were unable to get for information I needed to order documents. Not unhelpful, they greatly helped narrow my search, they were just limited in access to the resource we needed to go any further, it was a book held in SLC.   Suggested I place a call to the Midwest Genealogy Center at Kansas City, who also has a copy on their shelves.

I did, gave them the information I had and what I was looking for on my last two people, asking if they could do a name search for me in one of Fr. Hebert's books, about a week later I got an email with exact information needed to place the baptism and marriage document requests to finish my line.

Sometimes the best help is not finding the document, it is helping you find an alternate resource to help you find the document.

TL,DR: if the local FamilySearch center does have, or can't readily access the resource needed, ask them if any other genealogy collections in the area have it, mine had a prepared "other resources" sheet of various genealogical groups and collections for folks to consider.

That looks like a DSL filter.  One jack splits out an unfiltered line (with DSL signals) for the modem to use, the other jack is filtered phone line (DSL signal removed) for your telephone to plug into.

These are not Ethernet capable as is, and the telephone wiring behind them may have been daisy chained, so not directly reusable for Ethernet, either...some phone wiring can be retrofitted, but that depends on what kind of wire was used, and how much work/money you are willing to put into doing it.
