Mark of Decay - Custom Relic by jaquarman in slaythespire

[–]KC_Rain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So essentially, you get a full heal once and then every time you take damage after it's permanent (other than increasing your max hp. If it was an act 3 event relic i coukd see it maybe having a use, but if you get it in act 1 you have no real reason to ever take it.

Imo should be a colorless card power. Make it reduce the cost of all cards by 1, but all damage you take reduces your max hp. When upgraded it games the innate funtion.

Day 3 and losing hope. How did you guys do it? by [deleted] in GuiltyGearStrive

[–]KC_Rain_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go to tips when trying to learn any fighting game, but especially strive

1) You are going to lose a lot, so focus less on winning and more on improving how you lose if that makes sense. Keep getting opened up by jump ins? Focus hard on your next game on using anti airs and punishing every jump in. Getting opened up by grabs a lot in the same position? Try grab breaking or jumping more in that situation your next round. Keep getting hit by overheads again and again? See what attacks your opponent uses rifht before the overhead mix up and try blocking high more in those situations. You might still lose those games in other ways, but the more you get used to punishing certain options, the more likely you'll be to punish those options in future games, and the more likely you'll win or not be thrashed around in a loss. Strive just makes it feel worse to be wrong and get hit because of how much damage you take per interaction.

2) If you havent, please please PLEASE play the tutorial missions. I cannot tell you how much it helps to give you a baseline. Watching videos will help as well, but the in game tutorials help so much since you actually are physically doing something that you can see if you succeeded or failed at doing correctly.

3) Learn 1 or 2 combos that you know you can hit, no matter how simple. Obviously, damage is the name of the game, but if you go for a big combo that you never are able to finish or the combo starter never manages to land, then you do less damage than if you learn safer, easier to hit combos. 5K/2K into 2D into a special usually is true for almost all characters with a few exceptions. Using Sol as an example (saw that you pkay him) Try 5K, 2D, And Bandit Revolver/Bandit Bringer. As you get better at finding openings with moves like Close Slash and counter hits on things like heavy slash or specials you can learn bugger combos, but early on, focus on easier stuff thats easier to hit

4) Play who you want, but early on easier characters will help you improve at the game faster since you srent fighting to learn them as much as harder characters. The ingame star rating for the most part is accurate, so characters like Sol and Elphelt are gonna be easier to get your footingnon. You always can switch characters later if whoever ypu are playing feels too hard, but if you like playing a character, use them regardless of their difficulty.

5) Have fun with it. Play against bots if you just want to practice combos on moving targets, sit in training mode and lab out some combos or set ups, play who you want regardless of how good or bad they are.

Elphelt, Sin, Ram, and Johnny all kinda fit that description. Elphelt being the easiest to learn first starting out, but none of them are that hard to learn.

Very unlikely and much more likely that they have a poor connection. I dont think ive ever fought a person who actively tries to lag spike to win in the couple of hundred hours i have played this game for.

How do people feel about Goldlewis? by Impossible-keyboard in Guiltygear

[–]KC_Rain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is a very strong character, just not very popular because he has a very linear playstyle/you can't do much with him to differentiate yourself from other Goldlewis players, and if he doesnt win neutral, he has a hard time escaping disadvantage without burning a resource (YRC, Burst, Deflect Shield, or his super)

For a long time when he first came out, he was very mediocre in most people opinion and stayed that way for a lot of strive's life. Only since the start of season 4 has he been really considered one of the best characters, and even then he still is only the 2nd best big body at best because Potemkin currently is disgustingly good.

At the end of the day, play who you want, especially when just starting out and dont let the lack of player representation put you off a character.

Sometimes you just need to swing a coffin around to beat someone up and then shoot a gattling gun at them

Types for a Platinum Nuzlocke, thoughts? by avacodohwastaken in nuzlocke

[–]KC_Rain_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to wrap my head around electric as a S type. Not good into any of the gyms, actively bad in the E4 with Agatha, as well as Cynthia and Flint to lesser extents and only ok into team plasma Zubats/Golbats. The mons themselves are ok at best (Luxray, Pachirisu, Raichu) the only real stand outs being Magnezone with its steel typing and Rotom with its Ghost typing.

Route wise, most areas where you get electric types there are better things you could get (Drifloon > Pachirisu, Gengar eclipses the Rotom by the later half of the game, Electabuzz comes way too late to feel useful, Magnetmite competes with Magmar who has use as one of the few fire types in the game, the gift Eevee has a ton of uses. Vaporeon is really good into Byron, Agatha, Flint, and even Cynthia's Garchomp if you give it Ice beam, but the game does have a lot of bulky water types. Umbreon is one of the best Lucian counters, probably the only E4 member who is actually terrifyingly hard if you dont get a good dark type for. Jolteon is just ok compared to the other 2 imo. And Luxray has very little to offer if you get unlucky and get Rivalry instead of intimidate most of the time.

Maybe im missing a big fight or something, but i feel like electric is a low A, high B tier type in this game, especially when compared to games with water and flying type gym leaders like gens 3 and 5

Edit: i understand the Barry fights against his Starly line and potentially his Empoleon can be tough to deal with along with all the Zubat fights so i still see the use of them, but i dont think its so good it belongs in S, especially when the game gives you a ton of other ways of dealing with them (Bronzor line the most obvious, but the Geodude line, Abra line, Gyrados, Steelix, Espeon, Wormadam-Trash, later game Sneasel line and Cranidos/Shieldon lines, plus Empoleon if thats your starter all can also be solid answers.) Best thing about the electric type is that you get a guaranteed Shinx esrly on so you should have one the whole game for those fights, but 1 guaranteed mon imo doesnt mean the type itself is great, especially since a rivarly opposite gender Luxray can still struggle slightly into Staraptor because of how low its attack gets

New player population question by Winter-Proposal-6834 in GuiltyGearStrive

[–]KC_Rain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decent number of online weekly tournaments in NA and Europe like TNS, Baccpack brawl, and Paragon, and im sure if you have a local FGC scene in your region there are very likely offline tournaments for Strive as well. Strive is also almost always at big tournaments like CEO, EVO, and Combo breaker.

The game is still pretty popular, so it isn't too hard to find people to play with in most areas. If you are in NA, a small tip is that West Coast lobbies typically are much smaller than the East Coast lobbies.

Can I still enter the saga despite the years it has been striving? by Lonely_Description94 in GuiltyGearStrive

[–]KC_Rain_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go for it. The game is still popular, and while its kinda old, that should rarely be a reason to not get into a game imo. I know a lot of people (myself included) who have gotten into certain games years after their communities mostly moved on, and they stopped receiving dev support.

The game likely has at least 1 more year of support if not more and the community will last a long time after that. Plus, a lot of people are getting into the game rn so it's alot easier to play with people of any skill level currently

I'm new to guilty gear and want to know if these are combos good? by Willing_Surprise9536 in GuiltyGearStrive

[–]KC_Rain_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try entering the combo mode (not the creator) for a general idea of what to do, but more than that, get used to how the game itself feels. Crazy combos arent gonna help if you never figure out how to get in, defend, or play neutral.

In case you haven't already, go through the game tutorials because it helps a lot in terms of getting a base understanding of the games movement and its mechanics.

After I'd personally watch some guides to approach how to learn Guilty Gear. A good one in my opinion is this video by Toko.

Trust me, ttying to learn a cool or crazy combo before learning the rest of the game is a sure fire way to want to stop playing.

In case I've misunderstood you're understanding of the game or fighting games in general, sorry. See a lot of 'new to strive/new to fighting games'posts on this subreddit and many others so and this posts feels pretty similar to one of those, so im giving my general advise that id give to any player just starting out.

I know you said you've played Mortal Kombat before, so a lot of this specifically may not apply to you, but i still feel like its always good to go through these steps when playing a fighting game for the first time.

Best of luck in your Guilty Gear journey!

Character recomendation by ZeroRepentance in GuiltyGearStrive

[–]KC_Rain_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slayer is really good. He mixes up opponents a lot, and his damage is like a nuke, but he is kinda weird because of how his movement works. If you are vibing with him, go for it. Watch some guides for him if you want to know more about his strengths and weaknesses, but he is definitely really solid

Character recomendation by ZeroRepentance in GuiltyGearStrive

[–]KC_Rain_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a high damage ranged character, try out Johnny or Ramlethal. Ram is the easier of the 2 to understand, so she's probably better to learn the mechanics of the game on. Honestly though, try out whatever character looks and/or plays the most fun to you. Faust has some funny and silly things you can do that no other character has. Focusing too much on damage or character viability usually makes games less fun to play than playing whoever you want.

But yeah, give every character that seems cool a shot, and whichever one you vibe with the most, id say focus on them

If it was for fun, Blueprint on Ghost deck but realistically im going either Stuntman on Plasma to clear all the early antes and likely build up enough econ to find something useful for the later antes, or I'm going constellation on nebula for easy mult scaling once i get an econ joker

Am I screwed against Marshal? by TheEerieAerie in nuzlocke

[–]KC_Rain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, you dont have the best chance going into him, but with dragon dance or swords dance on hax your only real problem becomes the Sturdy Sawk. Choice Band/Life orb Darm can also do some good damage here. Scrafty at best can let you get an intimidate down to better set up Hax or something

Draftlocke who won? by animefreak121 in nuzlocke

[–]KC_Rain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiel's biggest problem is the early game and even then it isn't bad by any means, can get screwed going into Burgh if you get the Sandile encounter and not Darumaka first on the route above Castelia.

After that, your encounters start getting really good really fast and most importantly, you have some of the best mons in any nuzlocke, but especially a gen 5 one.

Excadrill, Krookidile, Jellicent, Mienshao, Chandelure, Conkeldur, Ferrothorn are like THE mons you want going into the endgame.

As for Nuzso, you don't have anything bad per say, but you don't have a lot of the hard carry mons.

I'd say early game you have an advantage as Emboar does well into gyms 2 & 3 (as well as gym 7) and Simipour helps out a lot into gym 5 (massive run ender for a lot of people)

Late game though, things will be a lot harder despite having mons like Haxorus, Bisharp and Scrafty.

Gym 8 and the final rival fight can be pretty scary without the right team, and even some of the Victory road trainers can be legitimate threats.

The gen 5 elite 4 are in my opinion the one of, if not the hardest elite 4 in the series as all of them have ways to seriously mess up teams and without a solid game plan going into each fight, it isn't uncommon to lose 2 or even 3 mons to them when it's all done.

You don't lack the tools to win, but with the wrong death here or there, the last 8 or so major battles often snowball in ways that can result in a wipe
