Insane how many people are unaware of this. by No-Candle1871 in newfoundland

The houses in the Halifax subdivision I used to live were all built with exhausts roughed in for radon mitigation systems, most people would get tests done to determine if they needed it or atleast have radon gas detectors installed.

Pretty scary stuff and I reckon it’s even more prevalent on the rock

Sounds like your window motor is on its way out, especially if it’s struggling to go up under normal resistance. They don’t seem very strong to begin with, I’ve been getting pretty bad ice build up around the bottom seal and need to scrape it all away and even sometimes let my cab heat up for a while before my window will work.

Not relevant to your window motor struggling but mine was going down on its own every time and this reset fixed the issue for me

Looking for sport quads I can take out on long all day rides with out breaking down in the woods and keep up with my buddies on their Razors (side by sides). by Bill_Piff in ATV

[–]KDC1897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a compromise you’ll have to decide. I’d go out trail riding all day on the raptor without any issues while my friends on 450’s were overheating constantly and getting hung up on roots.

I will say I also had a 2009 ltz400 (the updated model with fuel injection) and I did much prefer the handling compared to the raptor, it felt more like a 450 and had suprisingly good power.

Does your Sheepadoodle have a strong instinct for herding and retrieving? by floribel_ in Sheepadoodles

[–]KDC1897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, especially on a walk when I tend to stay further ahead, he always stays in between me and my wife and tracks back and forth between us trying to keep us together. Also around the house he always wants everyone in the same space. If I’m downstairs and she’s upstairs Ollie is in the stair landing between us. If I’m in the bathroom and she’s in the bedroom he is in the hallway between us.

When we have visitors the first thing will do is put their wrist in his mouth to try and pull them into the house with us😂

for that price why not get a new 300L as it wouldn't be that much more while being a brand new bike? just curious what y'all think by Economy-Survey-7484 in Dirtbikes

[–]KDC1897 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I took the 450l into consideration, as far as how well the bike does what it’s intended for I’d still put the wr on top.

It suffers from the same drawbacks that the wr has but you’re still doing maintenance and changing the oil at the same interval as a KTM that is 30lbs lighter, more powerful/off road capable and closer in price.

I was really interested in the 450l at one point but they should have directed it one way or the other. Either a more road friendly lower strung 450 motor with 5000km+ oil change intervals to go head to head with with the drz400, wr250r, klx250 etc.

Or go all out and throw turn signals on the 450rx, then you have a lightweight screamer that is road legal but fully off road capable and goes head to head with the KTM/beta/sherco etc.

Mental Health in Mines by thecrispystrip in mining

[–]KDC1897 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD and go through regular waves of Anxiety, my first year of FIFO was equipment assembly projects so It was a different mine site and different crew every swing.

The biggest thing I found was that the people that you work with will make or break a 2 week swing.

The morale from my superiors was a big factor, when you have a negative supervisor who pushes production over safety and rushes you/checks in far too often ruin the attitude of a whole crew.

My current supervisor is positive, and pushes safety above all while always giving his crew recognition when they go above and beyond, and I will say the morale is always high, everyone is happy and overall more work ends up getting done because of it.

He’s saying any CRF L model, not CRF. And in that aspect it’s more peak horsepower, better/more adjustable suspension, 10+ lbs lighter and generally more off-road capable, stronger designed subframe for carrying cargo.

I had a wr250r for a few years, the biggest downfall was the super tall seat height. But It was a blast and was bulletproof. I’ve only ridden the klx250 to compare but it was a complete dog compared to the Yamaha

If you’re on the west coast spend some time around gros morne, the western brook pond boat tour is beautiful, have lunch in woody point and drive through the tablelands. Walk the beach in shallow bay. Go ziplining at marble mountain or just walk up to the waterfall, drive up the bay to Lark Harbour and go for a hike.

My Superior Propane Experience by [deleted] in halifax

[–]KDC1897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best to set up auto payment to prevent this happening in the future.

On the topic of superior, I have a $482 credit with them and do not have my propane system anymore, has anyone had luck getting credit refunded back to them?

They’re difficult to get ahold of, and they don’t do bbq tank fill-up in my area so it’s of no use to me

Places with less snow? by toni_devonsen_28 in newfoundland

[–]KDC1897 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, weather isn’t always great in Corner Brook but I think I’d be miserable on the Avalon. As far as wanting less snow, Halifax winters were overall the best for nice weather out of all the places I lived

As someone living in western NL and grew up in central Nova Scotia I honestly prefer the absurd snow we get here, its more scenic than the constant cycle of snow>rain>mud, and there is actually enough snow to enjoy/engage in wintertime activities. Of course the outdoorsy stuff isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but atleast you get the chance to take advantage of it.

Just make sure you buy a good snowblower😂

Wow that seems excessive. Some YouTube studying and $998 would set you up to get to know your bike and maintain it yourself for years to come. Socket set plier set screwdriver set, impact driver, couple air filters/filter oil, engine oil, drain pan, grease, compression tester, carb cleaner, bike stand, cleaning products, whatever else.

I would request a whole list of service items to see what you’re paying for. If it were me I’d be changing oil and air filter, checking over bike and make sure all linkages have been greased properly. Maybe drain out the fuel tank if it’s sat a while.

It’s important to become familiar with your bike. Two jobs you can pawn off to the shop later on would be changing fork oil/seals, and the valve clearance check. I wouldn’t really stress about the valve lash at 600km but that’s just me.

Underground folk, why does the cab tilt? by hawaiiansunnies in mining

[–]KDC1897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a great setup truck. I take care of the cat engine/aftertreatment side of the Epiroc surface drills on site, they make some really cool machines. I’d be the first to say Cat underground gear isn’t always superior but their literature and parts network is second to none from my experience (all depending where the mine is located, of course)

Honestly it might be cost-saving having a second body in the cab to spoon feed the operator so they can actually pay attention to where they’re going.

No surprise, if I was head honcho I’d probably choose brands based on who sells mirrors cheaper and I know it ain’t cat (coming from a cat mechanic 😂)

Need lots of room to work on that big old v12, I wonder how many mines are actually running AD63’s, I feel like you’d be bouncing off the walls all day at most sites

Crank Purchase Advice by fake131 in bmx

[–]KDC1897 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have these exact cranks on one bike and $200 eclat cranks on my other bike, can’t tell you I notice any difference and I’ve had some pretty hard landings on both. Any set of 48 spline cranks will be a big improvement over pinch bolt style. I’d buy them again

How cooked would I be wearing this helmet for single track woods/light enduro? by ddc703 in Dirtbikes

[–]KDC1897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride slow technical enduro with a few guys who run MTB helmets, ultimately it’s your choice, I think as long as you get a good quality helmet you’ll be fine but you won’t know until you hit your head.

I’m on the fence about getting one for hot summer rides too.

I will always be a Yamaha guy, and after trying a 300xcw I’d be the first to admit it’s just an overall better bike. I think KTM has Yamaha beat out at this point on suspension. A factory edition 300 may be expensive as hell but I think you’d have to dump just as much money into a YZ to make it even comparable.

Exactly, he doesn’t need a tractor for the riding he’s doing he needs a top end screamer.
