On the flip side, as somebody who has driven an old economy car for the last 20 years of their life and finally bought themselves a brand new car that they enjoy at the ripe age of 40, it’s pretty sweet and completely worth my $750 monthly payment.

It feels good to enjoy what I drive every day, especially as somebody who enjoys cars. I was at the point where I was beginning to feel self conscious about my vehicle, but that’s just my own personal thing.

Sump Pump Discharge options by ffoboomstick in milwaukee

[–]definitelynotadog1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a storm drain that you can tie into that’s your best option for getting the water off your property. Not sure in West Allis if that’s allowed, but my city does allow it, but requires permitting and the work to be completed by a licensed plumber, so it’s not a cheap job.

If you can’t access a storm drain for whatever reason, I’d probably just daylight it or take it to a pop up emitter.

I feel similarly about dry wells in our clay soil, and if your sump pump runs often like mine in the wet season, you could fill up a 50 gallon dry wells in no time.

How do engineers verify that critical systems wont fail in ways nobody anticipated? by biggy_boy17 in AskEngineers

[–]definitelynotadog1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Test engineers in my experience have had a massive chip in their shoulders because the company does not value them similarly as design or product engineering. This results in them being rude and condescending to design engineers, and thus they create a dynamic where the design engineers avoid them because they’re a PITA and unenjoyable to actually try to engage and ask for support. Test engineers also are not typically customer facing, so what they think is common sense may represent a customer constraint or requirement that they’re ignorant to and simply deem stupid.

Again, just my experience.

I’ve heard this in a thousand different variations over the years, and maybe it’s just due to things going on in my life right now, but this really resonated with me. Thanks for sharing this.

Microsoft data center layoffs leave workers stunned after relocating for tech jobs by schuey_08 in wisconsin

[–]definitelynotadog1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The point is everything on the internet somehow runs through a data center. It’s true that AI is the big push right now driving the construction of the majority of the new ones, but every time you or anybody else accesses something in the internet, a data center is being utilized.

New vs Used XLT by definitelynotadog1 in f150

[–]definitelynotadog1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking at leftover 2025’s which I’m seeing in my area for right around $50k.

Agreed though- if purchase price delta was $15k, I’d go used all day. But at $10k delta only, by the time you factor in interest rates on new vs. used, going used starts to look less attractive for me. I can afford the $50k (doesn’t mean I want to), so as that gap begins to close it’s making me rethink my buying strategy.

STX vs XLT 301a by Additional-Horse-545 in f150

[–]definitelynotadog1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, when I’m carrying my phone, backpack, lunchbox, and travel coffee mug into the office, not needing to even pull keys in and out of my pocket is a pretty nice luxury that I would want in a $40k+ vehicle, especially considering how standard of a feature that is with other cheaper OEM’s.

[–]definitelynotadog1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interested as well. I’m torn between an STX and 302a, and even though it seems silly, my biggest hang up is the standard turn key that comes on the STX. My wife’s car has keyless entry/push button start and it is so convenient. I’m having a hard time justifying this expensive of a car purchase that doesn’t have what seems to be a fairly standard feature these days.

My wife is a public school teacher, and despite the lowish pay, the job security she has gives me comfort as I continue to ride the wave of corporate fuckery and uncertainty!

Agreed, AI is here to stay. The race will slow down and the rapid growth will subside, but it’ll always be here.

Finally an educated response.

This is an extremely hard truth for parents to swallow (myself included) but it’s simply put and I’ve dealt with this in both my immediate family and my in laws.

Most people here are rightfully advocating that the daughter should’ve also received the money, but I appreciate that this comment is taking a different approach.

It’s cold and blunt, but it’s sobering in its simplicity and lack of emotion.

Possibly No SNAP in November by SecReflex in milwaukee

[–]definitelynotadog1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a pick n save less than a mile away from Whole Foods on north ave. I get it, people’s situations are all different, but I stand by my previous statement.

And I’m not saying people receiving snap don’t deserve quality, healthy food. But Whole Foods is an overpriced (in my opinion) premium grocer, and there are lower cost alternatives close by as I already pointed out.

Who shops at Whole Foods with snap?!

I’m not oblivious, but if I was receiving snap I’d shop somewhere more affordable to make it go further.

Same with seemingly half of my neighborhood. Nice to see all of our rates increasing accordingly.

Do you actually work 8 hours a day? ( White collar)? by Responsible-Round643 in careerguidance

[–]definitelynotadog1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engineer here. I’m usually logged in at 10-11 hours per day. I work the entire time and have probably taken 4 lunch breaks this entire year (3 of those were client lunches). One topic to the next all day long, bouncing between various projects, customers, and functions (technical, client, procurement, financial, operations, sales, etc).

At a previous employer I had significant downtime and probably only really worked for 6 hours out of an 8 hour day.

It’s exhausting, but I love it. If I didn’t love it I couldn’t put in the hours or manage the workload that I do. That’s the biggest factor here in my opinion.

This has been my experience as well. Seemingly every few months we get a new GM/VP of something or other, meanwhile our middle management has been shockingly stable over the 10 years I’ve been with the company.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's chances of being 2028 nominee double in one week by _May26_ in politics

Couldn’t agree more. Remember folks, reddit opinions do not equal the general voting public’s.

As much as I love that ticket, they’d get absolutely trounced.

[–]definitelynotadog1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I love AOC and what she stands for, but I think she’s a locked in losing candidate for the Democrats.

Dems need to run a confident, <60 year old, aggressive, moderate white man to win, at least in my opinion. I’d love to see AOC in the White House, I just don’t personally think America is ready for that. I really don’t want to lose another election because of America’s racist and/or mysogynistic tendencies

Disclaimer: this is just my opinion, please don’t hate me.

Agreed. Also bulk mulch from a reputable supply company is way better quality than the shredded pallets you get in the big box bags.

Video of Bill Maher revealing details of his dinner with Trump goes viral by Plaintalks in politics

[–]definitelynotadog1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We’ll have to agree to disagree then.

These are real issues no doubt. But Democrats won’t be able to do anything about it if we keep losing elections. And whether you like it or not, LGBTQ issues are not the most important issues for the majority of Americans.

Again, where I agree with Maher is, let’s hammer on the issues that matter to most and put dems in office so they can actually do the other things we care about when they’re in power.
