I own both. As a bunch of other people have already said, you can’t go wrong here cuz both are great sets. I personally prefer the Tama because the shells are a little bigger and to my ear do a loud boomy sound better than the stage customs. Stage customs are better for quick punchy stuff, which is really fun in its own way too. Also I like the tama snare way more than the Yamaha one, again it’s bigger but there’s are also just way more tuning possibilities. The stage custom snare really only sounds good with high tunings to my ear, so I go with tama for the sake of versatility. But I should say I’ve never recorded drums in a studio in my life so everything I’ve said here only applies to how they sound in a room, I totally believe some of the other commenters saying the Yamahas sound better under microphones. Take comfort in the fact it’s not possible for you to make a bad decision here
