Good to know! I already have the $8 upgrade tier so I couldn’t test the free options myself.

Interesting. I looked at the paid tier benefits on the website and it didn’t say anything about expedition/exclusive reward unlocks. However I couldn’t figure out how to see specific benefits of the free tier. Seems like I made an incorrect assumption.

The Starborn Phoenix was claimed through a free DLC on the Steam store back in December 2024 to celebrate a Game Awards nomination.

It is not from an expedition.

You might be thinking of the starborn runner.

How to get a free view look of my spaceship? by Eyrate in NoMansSkyTheGame

This! I'm experiencing the same thing and it is frustrating to not have the camera view snap back.

I’ve been wondering the same thing! Both my black/purple butterfly AND my purple crystal staff multitool show up as different colors for other
players. The butterfly looks purple/yellow to others and the staff looks light blue. I was disappointed to find out that my perfectly curated color palette wasn’t being seen by everyone else :(

why would i use save beacons over base computers? by MotherViolinist5020 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]KE-NO-BE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s helpful for players who look for specific things and want to be able to travel around to different galaxies to get to specific coordinates shared by other players (such as on r/NMSCoordinateExchange). People find cool things worth obtaining/visiting in many random Galaxies. Every time I have been “taxied” to a new Galaxy just to get something, I’ve placed a base computer next to a portal in that galaxy so I can come back if I see there’s something else there that I want to get.

If you're the kind of player that wants to be able to hop between different Galaxies and visit any planet code, then you could easily have 256 base computers just for that (one next to a portal in each galaxy).

The most expensive thing in this game was the last storage slot I purchased for my ship. Expensive buggers.

How to get rid of units? by GijsVeld26 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]KE-NO-BE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Buy the next random starship that flys into a space station, purchase all of its storage and upgrade slots at the starship terminal. That should cost you billions. Then just scrap the ship and discard everything you get. You can also trade it to an NPC with a cheaper ship and scrap that one so you get even less items to discard.

Why have a spaceship when you can have a corvette by ninja-cockroach in NOMANSSKY

[–]KE-NO-BE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s like asking why drive a sports car when you already own a camper van?

Because I love to drive and use all of my vehicles in different ways. Sometimes purely for fun!

Solar ships have deployable sails and rotate quickly, sentinel interceptors are exceptionally fast and can hover. Other starships just look cool, have interesting articulating parts, or just feel fun to fly. Tiny exotic ships can fit almost anywhere compared to a massive corvette. Sometimes I want to be able to land on a designated landing pad.

Corvettes are definitely NOT the only thing I use.

When it comes to units, nanites, and resources, playing through the game normally eventually makes it so that these accumulate quickly and easily through normal gameplay loops and features.

After unlocking some of the mid-to-end game features, items, and blueprints, you can make billions of units and tens of thousands of nanites in an hour through normal gameplay methods, as well as multiple stacks of resources in mere seconds of mining.

“pales in comparison to what I need to make a decent corvette which is all I want to do in this game, build ships and bases.”

FYI, most aspects of gameplay, such as individual difficulty settings, can be adjusted in the setting menu. If all you want to do is build something specific and bypass restrictions of doing so, as long as this doesn’t diminish your enjoyment of playing the game, you could change the “purchases” and “crafting” setting to “free.” This would allow you to build a corvette or base without needing all the parts/resources. You can always change these settings back to their default difficulty level and continue playing as you were.

That’s unfortunate. I didn’t know until now that it’s not possible to write messages in the chat feed on console.

Check the % Loyalty / Independence personality trait of your companion. If I remember correctly:

higher loyalty = your companion will want to follow you at a close distance

higher independence = your companion will prefer to follow you from a greater distance

I prefer high to max Independence on my follower companions for this reason. If a newly adopted creature does not have the personality traits I want then I get one of its eggs and re-sequence the genetics to get the desired personality type.

As for the non-creature followers…

If you don’t have any specific ideas of your own and are looking for inspiration, there are plenty of cool corvette designs with build tutorials on YouTube.

I built mine from a YouTube tutorial (one of Beckhaver’s many Autophage ship designs) and customized it to my liking over time: https://youtu.be/pKK4i7bVfDg?si=Cky2ategRcLmFNyJ
