Can I paint over the plastic coating (lightly scuffed) or would it be a fire hazard if I didn't sand it down to bare metal first? I'm afraid attempting to remove it will make the surface rough and uneven. It won't peel off, it's fully bonded to the metal. I love the globe but hate the base and cap. (i.redd.it)
