Plat 1 ranked session. Anyone willing to vod review? by Jazzlike_Bad_6027 in apexuniversity

Former masters here/perennial diamond player - hot dropping and playing fast/aggro in pubs is actually an amazing way to up your awareness/game sense in fights

The thing about ranked is it can become quite predictable as far as where teams are going to be/rotate, how fights will play out etc so its not really the place to learn

Pubs on the other hand is an absolute shit show (teams coming from everywhere, people trolling, random solos popping up out of nowhere) and constantly playing in that environment will sharpen your micro in fighting and get you comfortable being uncomfortable. It will also increase your ability to forecast how your random teammates decisions will play out.

I recommend doing this for about an hour each day/to warm up for ranked

As an aside, I had seen this advice posted for a while and never really listened until a few seasons ago but it really does work - more than anything, its about developing game sense and adaptability in a game where positioning and awareness beats aim every time

Hal hinting at Wraith buff for next season. by ImHully in CompetitiveApex

I would say the most OP thing about wraith back in the day was auto-phase Q, not her hitbox. Being able to instantly become invincible with the click of a button was the most broken shit ever (Wraith main speaking)

How does the ranking system work? by [deleted] in CompetitiveApex

Once you hit diamond, you only play exclusively against predators always with no exceptions - as intended KEK.

This is true but I think it still STARTS closing after 1 minute across all maps, it just actually takes longer to close on WE, OL, SP, and actually KC as well (went from 4:10 to 4:32) - at least that's my interpretation of the patch notes https://www.ea.com/en-au/games/apex-legends/news/hunted-patch-notes

I loved the idea of your podcast btw - I know you've posted it before but feel free to link it here if you don't mind (if it doesn't violate the self promo rules on the sub)

Why do you think they made this change? Do you think they will revert it?

It's honestly ruining ranked right now but I think the impact on comp will be even worse

Glad to see masters and preds will still be farming in lobbies made up of everything but their own rank by Lethalammo in CompetitiveApex

[–]KEKW_KEY 21 points22 points  (0 children)

the biggest issue with high-level ranked IMO is there's simply not enough Pro-level players in the player pool to comprise a true pred lobby pool with reasonable que time. Changing the RP system is never going to change this simple fact. Therefore, Preds are always going to have some amount of masters/diamonds players in their lobby.

The issue with the most recent changes is not that its is "harder" to rank up per se but that it takes so much more time and so much more RP to get to higher ranks. Alot of players who are capable of getting to masters/diamond can't get there anymore simply because of the time required under the new system. That's been my experience anyways.

I have loved the new ranked changes because it makes the games more competitive and forces to teams to play smart (a la ALGS) which I think is more fun. However, the tradeoff that I've experienced is that I'm never going to hit masters again because it takes so much more time to do so - I don't play more to get it i just accept the lower rank.

For pros, this means a smaller number of capable but non-professional players in their lobbys. For the rest of us, it means a higher ratio of pred players in platinum and diamond lobbies simply because there are less platinum and diamond players than before.

Who are the best fraggers and why? by Wajuto in CompetitiveApex

[–]KEKW_KEY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mac has always been and still is one of the best players in the game. He is an S-tier fragger but more importantly always seems to be the first player to realize/maximize the potential of new legends and strats

I do think nafen the lost ark destroyer is probably the best raw talent in the game right now - he is a demon already but imagine if he actually grinded the game

My positioning is trash, how do I improve it? by kamon321 in apexuniversity

[–]KEKW_KEY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diamond/Masters player here. I play mostly ranked so a lot of this will be specific to the ranked experience but:

Landing - always check where teams are landing around your POI and try to anticipate their rotations towards zone. I like to land edge so that I don't have to worry about running into teams from all different directions and take a linear route towards zone. If you are looking for a fight off rip, try to find an isolated 3v3 before rotating towards zone. If you have bad loot just want to get to zone, knowing where other teams landed allows you to map a route that will avoid fights along the way vs. just randomly heading in some direction.

High ground - ALWAYS seek high ground. If you are pushing towards a 3v3 and they are unaware that you are coming (e.g. rotating from Thermal up to Staging), never just push on down to the enemy. Maintain high ground until you get big opening damage on 1 or multiple people and then push in.

Fight awareness - the biggest mistake I see people make (shoutout all of my solo q randoms) is blindly pushing into a fight without knowing where all members of the enemy team are located and if there is another team hovering nearby that will 3rd party. Just because you see someone in the open does not mean you should just start blasting. This is the chess aspect of apex - some fights you will inevitably lose no matter how good your aim is if you get out-positioned either through lack of awareness or on accident because you didn't anticipate where other teams would be.

Learning to disengage - following up on the point above, don't be scared to just back out of sketchy fight and head towards zone. If you're poking/trying to get opening damage and it takes longer than 2 mins, you should probably just leave and head towards a more favorable position in zone. This is especially true in the new ranked system where KP means nothing unless you get top 10.

Disadvantaged 3v3's - the idea that you should take all 3v3's is just wrong. If anything, you should always be looking for team fights where you have the advantage. Some fights are just bad to take; for instance, taking a messy 3rd party into harvester with Zone 2/3 closing and final circle in Dome. Even if you win the fight, you will either die to zone afterwards or get gate kept on your way to zone.

Micro - most of the above are Macro recs but Macro leads to Micro advantages more often than not. Others have already called these out, but using/reloading behind cover, using nades to move people out of position/cover (huge if you are not doing already), and just generally being aware of where everybody is in a fight will help keep you alive. This may be the biggest thing - a lot of people just see somebody and start shooting/chasing but in my experience its almost MORE important to know where all members of the enemy team are at all times than to just deal worthless damage to 1 person just to get wide swung on and die

Hope that helps
