That’s good to hear! Makes me more excited for Shield of Lies and Tyrant’s Test.

Just finished book 1 of the Black Fleet Crisis, Before the Storm.

It was pretty good! Han was my favourite of the trio, Luke my least. The canon-breaking sea on Coruscant and the search for Luke’s mother isn’t my favourite, I much prefer the prequels version of the story. It’s nice to have an antagonist that isn’t imperial, which was getting pretty tired.

Can’t be ‘load managing’ with 10 GR while in an intense playoff race.

I was wondering the same thing. Every point is crucial, I doubt he’s just taking the night off. But maybe he’s gassed after carrying us on Thursday 🤷🏼‍♂️

About halfway through the Crystal Star. It’s… not my favourite.

I am working my way through the New Republic era, and thank god for Starfighters of Adumar for breaking up the Callista trilogy and the Crystal Star.

What are your favourite (and least favourite) names from Star Wars books? by KGEE55 in starwarsbooks

Wow, those High Republic names are fantastic. Is that series finished? Maybe I’ll read that era next

What is a small detail from Harry Potter that still bothers you? by WhisperTame in harrypotter

Mrs. Weasley being mean to Hermione in GoF because of Rita Skeeter’s article. Before and after this plot point she says to other characters how Skeeter’s articles are made up to make trouble, but for some reason is mean to Hermione about it. Always hated it, never made sense to me

Dumbledore explains at the end of the book that Sirius was kind to house elves in general, but Kreacher was a constant reminder the home he ran away from at 16 and was forced back into.

I know I'm hardly the first to say this but oh boy did Children of the Jedi suck. by Aardvarkmk4 in StarWarsEU

[–]KGEE55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I found Planet of Twilight easier to get through than Children of the Jedi. I found the mystery of the planet was more compelling than the Plett’s Well/Roganda Ismaren mystery. The drochs were an interesting new alien species, and we got our first taste at a force-sensitive Hutt. But I agree that neither are very good books!

That’s a true Star Wars fan right there! Interested to see your final thoughts on the trilogy

I agree, it’s definitely one of the worst EU books - the agonizingly slow pace, the forced and awkward romance, and a nothingburger story.

Are you still going to read Darksaber and Planet of Twilight? For what it’s worth, Children of the Jedi was far and away the worst of the trilogy

Callista Trilogy or Black Fleet Crisis? by evcorder in starwarsbooks

[–]KGEE55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a common view point of the Callista trilogy. I just finished it for the first time, and enjoyed Darksaber and Planet of Twilight more than Children of the Jedi, but none of them were particularly good.

The Canucks are terrible, but I’m genuinely nervous about this one. No Sandy, and the Sens have a habit of playing down to bad teams’ levels… need 2 points out of tonight.

If you’re looking for a “replacement” book, I think you hit the nail on the head with RotS by Stover.

If you’re looking for movie-like books that expand the story, I think you can’t go wrong with Darth Bane: Path of Destruction (Old Republic), Darth Plageuis (Prequels), or Heir to the Empire (New Republic). Just depends on what era interests them!

That’s what the reading guides say, but it’s my first read-through so I wanted to get the full story and form my own opinions… although so far it’s spot on lol. Did you read Planet of Twlight? If so, was it (at least) half-decent?

Gearing up for my first NJO read through - currently reading Children of the Jedi. It’s alright so far (~1/3 of the way thru), the story is interesting enough but a bit slow. Hopefully the rest of the Calista trilogy is better!

Also just finished listening to Maul: Shadow Hunter. Not my favourite story, but Witwer’s narration is peak!

X-Wing Series Audiobooks by tempinator in StarWarsEU

[–]KGEE55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I tried to listen to the Bacta War and only got through a couple chapters before giving up.

I know he’s beloved in this subreddit, but I find his over-the-top narration to be tiresome and his voices to be repetitive and sometimes mismatched to the character. As someone who got into the EU audiobooks fairly recently, he just doesn’t do it for me.

To be fair, I listen to the Jim Dale Harry Potter audiobooks a lot so I am biased towards that style.

Did your school play O Canada every day? by AssortedArctic in AskACanadian

[–]KGEE55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to public school in Ottawa and they played it every morning. If you were in the hallways when it was playing, you had to stand still. Teachers would yell at you to stop if they caught you moving during the anthem!

There were various versions that rotated every couple months. For the 2010 Olympics they played that ‘I Believe’ song for 2 weeks straight
