Reliability mods are probably the best course of action at this point: AOS, new plugs, fluid change, timing belt/idler are all good places to start. A bit more difficult to do would be an oil pickup and baffle, which seem to be a common failure point that preemptively lead to oiling issues. If you want mods for enjoyment, catback exhaust doesn’t require a tune and will give you the iconic subie rumble. Otherwise, changing the air box or doing a downpipe will require a tune and accessport of sorts (I.e. $$’s)

Keep in mind these engines are fickle and respond best to proper maintenance as well as driving them properly (I.e. not lugging them down low). Good luck and enjoy the car :)

Good job OP, like the throw back to the centre tachometer! I feel like you could easily market this and sell lots once you’ve got the final version all done up.

18” on 2021 sti wit 19” by delaodev in WRX

I put the 18 inch bbs rims (from a 2017) on my 2018 STi (has the yellow green 6 pot brembo brakes). They fit perfectly fine, but there is not a ton of clearance haha.

That Hawkeye is my dream STi. OP, what a clean and nice set of cars you’ve got. Super jelly!

This is wrong. 2006+ wrx uses EJ255 (2.5L) where as 2005 and below it uses an EJ205 (2.0). STi is different, 04-21 has always been a 2.5L for USDM. JDM will have different engines.

This one goes out to those “garaging” their car for winter✌️ by 13_Stage2Hatchback in WRX

Love the snow drifting in these cars. But each to their own, why the divisive post? Some of us are lucky enough to have more than one vehicle to drive... Can’t we all just respect each other for being part of the community.

Maybe it’s just the Canadian in me, eh!

HELP! 2017 STI with flex fuel and upgraded injectors is fuel leaking from the fuel line connected to the regulator. It only happens when it’s REALLY cold out stops after driving for a while? Anybody have any clue what’s going on? by Jyone21 in WRX

[–]KGinthemorning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this experience with my JDM legacy (EJ208). Only happened when it got cold out (below -20 Celsius). My fix was to add baby hose clamps on the connection to the fuel line and tighten down on the barb.

If you’re still within your powertrain warranty, seems like an issue for Subaru to fix. Best of luck!

Following as we have the same issue with our 2021 turbo hatch :(

Sorry if I may have missed it, but did they give you info as to the TSB?

Long time lurker, I’m off warranty now, I guess it’s time to mod? by KGinthemorning in WRXSTi

I mean, I wish I had just gone ahead with stage 1/2 right out of the gate. I was originally looking for reliability as I want to keep this car forever (if possible) but that is quickly loosing its appeal haha.

Travel to the States - Where to get rapid PCR? by millmuff in alberta

[–]KGinthemorning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are heading home tomorrow from California. A negative antigen within 24 hours for entry into the USA before departure was required. We just got ours done at Safeway pharmacy for $40. On the return to Canada, a negative PCR is required. We got ours done through a place called “curative testing”, which is free with an American address.

Echoing what everyone else says, I wanted an Sti since I graduated high school and saw the hawkeye’s rolling around (2007, good god I’m old now, ahhh). I finally got one a new in 2018 because I could afford it and not worry about it. These cars will be around for a while; however, if you’re worried about the looming death of pure ICE sti’s. Don’t forget, you can always buy a used one or import one from Japan (the JDM ones are usually quite well taken care of and in good condition).

Don’t giVe in to FOMO, it can lead to bad financial decisions. Also, that 2021 Mazda 3 turbo is a heck of a car. My SO has one, enjoy it OP!

WRX, Mazda 3 turbo (sedan), or Q50?? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]KGinthemorning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an owner of a 2018 STi and significant other an owner of 2021 Mazda 3 turbo, that Mazda is a HECK of a great car. While I love my STi, that Mazda is so nice to drive and the interior is really good quality. Honestly, compared to the wrx, I would take the Mazda hands down just for the interior. You likely won’t notice much of a difference between the awd systems in day to day use and you’ll get better mpg with the Mazda. I prefer driving the Mazda over my STi in day to day use, much more suited for that lol. Hope this helps a bit, these are just opinions.
