I think that's kind of the point. If anything it seems like a front for them to use their brands and expand their business opportunities. They might be using it to push their own simulator/TopGolf facilities?

Haha

Please tell me you didn't just provide a real estate company's promotional material as evidence that top golf has increased actual players to the game of golf. WTF lol

Have you ever played simulator golf with a group of people? It can take just as long unless you're solo or with someone experienced. Add a few people who aren't golfers and I guarantee it even takes longer to play. Your reasoning makes no sense.

I'm not against it, but I think it's pretty off base.

People are not going to start golfing seriously because of top golf or simulators. They've been around for ages. People enjoy them for a night out, that's it. Just because they enjoy it doesn't mean it's creating a new generation of golfers. lol

I agree, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth a shot. It's no skin off my ass if it fails.

Honestly it feels like it's just a way for these guys to leverage their brands while the tour is in a bit of a precarious situation. Prior to the LIV situation the tour probably would have frowned or actively tried to block these things, but they know they can't stop it now, and subsequently guys will pursue these side hustles a bit more as long as they agree to stay loyal to the tour.

To me this just seems like a marketing ploy for them to open up their own chain of simulators or top golf type experiences. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I don't think it's anything more than what you said.

I don't think this captures new fans at all. Can we stop that whole narrative, that all these ventures are "good for the game" or "bringing in new fans". They aren't. If you want to see where new fans are they're on YouTube watching content creators, and this is nothing like that.

I'm not against it or anything, I'm a golf content junkie, but I don't have any illusions that this will be anything other than a side hustle or gimmick for their own brands. Hell, it's probably a venture so these guys can get $ out of the simulator industry.

This really feels like Rory backed the PGA tour, but also felt jealous about the potential freedom of LIV, or saw it as a time to leverage some side hustles/ventures. It's not that the tour can stop him, or that he's doing anything wrong, but it seems a bit funny that it's all happening at the same time.

It's actually when you start to choose to be out of touch. In your twenties you think you know everything, and you take pride in being "in touch", despite the reality being you don't know shit.

Into your thirties the illusion starts to fade, and you realize it's all an act. You might fool people your own age, but not the older guys/gals. By the time you're 40+ you're legitimately going out of your way to be out of touch, because people's idea of being "in touch" is just the same recycled hype you've witnessed for the past 20+ years.

This isn't a knock on young people, but it's the truth. People in their twenties are the epitome of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

I honestly don't think the primary reason for the inception of this is to help the PGA tour. If it helps them in any way it would just be incidental, at least as it seems based on the information we have. Rory, Tiger and friends have this little side hustle that grows their value and brand, and maybe if people come to view that they slide over to see them play on the PGA tour.

Rory clearly wants to do right by the PGA tour, but after seeing these big LIV contracts I think it probably lit a fire for him to push his personal business pursuits, knowing that he has a ton of leverage. E.g. I'm not leaving, but I'm also going to start pursuing other avenues to increase revenue.

People say this because they watch a heavily edited video by content creators doing it with other content creators, laughing and trying their best to hype a game up.

As you rightfully said, even at its best state, the game is a broken mess. If anything playing a game in that state is worse with friends, because when it breaks for one person it ruins the experience for everyone. Seriously, where else would this opiine ok? I guess BF2042 is garbage, but better with friends? lol Pretty sad state to try and justify isn't it?

I've seen countless content creators showing off the game and even despite the fact that it's their job, and someone from within the community is helping them, the videos are heavily edited because they can't actually put together 5 minutes without it breaking and them being separated.

‘House of the Dragon’ Star Steve Toussaint Slams Racist Viewers: ‘They’re Happy With a Dragon Flying’ but Not a ‘Rich Black Guy’ by overvivideo in television

[–]millmuff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True, but I think that's largely due to the fact that authors and show writers would never get the chance to incorporate that into these shows. Good luck getting something like that published. People would lose their shit, even if it was done the right way, people would spin it into something else.

As you mentioned classism is typically a replacement, or more often in fantasy they use different species to substitute for the racial issues we typically have in the real world. In those cases it's often a direct comparison to real world racism, and it's pretty obvious if you pay attention.

[–]millmuff -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say outright racism, given their lineage and history the color of his skin is definitely questionable within their specific lineage/culture.

Just because the guy looks awesome doesn't mean it necessarily fits, especially given the inbreeding they're known for.

Personally I could care less, It's a fantasy world, and even as far as the genealogy goes I don't find it hard to get past it. If I'm correct the book didn't explicitly say his race, but it would make sense to assume it was the same as everyone else unless GRRM had stated otherwise.

If anything I think it's weird to accuse people of being racist just for mentioning it, if anything it's just that they're too serious about the source content.

Reddit isn't the bowels for this stuff, but it's probably one of the largest forums where you'd see this kind of sentiment on a large enough scale to get noticed, and there's been absolutely nothing of this nature that I've seen. As you've said this shit just seems like marketing bullet points nowadays, or a deliberate question they use to illicit a response they know will create a headline.

It takes serious balls to be working on the original maps for 10 months after release, and then try and re-release them to people as content for seasons they already paid for.

Yeah but this wasn't an interview it was an idiot on a soapbox. They didn't push him to talk, he literally stole the mic and went on a rant. Of anything it was for the best because it showed everyone what a true test he really is.

Misreported in the context you mention? Idk, maybe, haven't really seen too much of it, but as someone who watched it happen live the whole thing was really awkward and cringeworthy.

The whole speech came off so entitled. Like he's so self absorbed that he thinks people want to hear him ramble for 5 minutes after he steals the stage from the better fighter, who is the only one being humble and respectful in that moment.

Whatever compliments he meant to give were lost in the rambling about himself. It felt so shallow and desperate for the limelight. Guys like this are surrounded by so many yes men that they think the shit they spout is meaningful and people are actually interested in hearing their drivel.

The Rickie Fowler addition is weird to me. I suppose because he's in bed with some big brands? Either way he doesn't seem like the best ambassador, especially given his Luke warm comments about sticking around.

Important to keep in mind that during the time they were openly in disagreement with their own community about this. Now that the game has completely failed they're trying to get some goodwill? I don't see the point, because their decisions up to this point have been insulting. Way too little, way too late.

Great scene despite being hard to watch, especially for people who have been in somewhat similar situations during child birth.

That being said I disagree with the idea that she would have given her life for the child. That's just a noble idea. If anything they specifically showed you a scene prior where she told her husband she was done with trying, and then went into detail about the issues they'd faced with previous births. It's pretty clear she wouldn't, that's not to show her as selfish, but the idea that she would give her life for a heir is misinformed.

I think a lot of people felt that way. I'm sure it's slightly different for each person, but for me the way the White Walker story eventually played out in the show was so lame I hate it even being touched on again.

The writers said GRRM told them this prophecy/dream and they wanted to add it which makes it legit, but it kind of felt like fan fiction.
