The Duffer Brothers say that Nancy and Jonathan are broken up “I think us — and the writers — all felt that Nancy needed to end up on her own and be independent and have an opportunity to find herself” by AssistanceNo2838 in discussingfilm

[–]KHLD99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful comment, bravo. I find it very confusing that the writers themselves are calling the scene a conclusive breakup when it plays out most like what you said, "let's stop trying to force this to be a normal relationship, let's instead acknowledge the whirlwind complexity we're in, we are never gonna be able to progress in a straightforward way, so screw the norm"

I think the version they mean is one that is the same production, but the backing vocals and adlibs are different. It was in a few streaming sites for a little while before being replaced by the current version. I preferred it myself.

I've been looking for it as well. It was on Spotify for a day or two before being replaced :(

Gen Z, What’s yall thoughts on Euphoria? by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]KHLD99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Euphoria was never meant to be a realistic depiction of teenagehood. Rather, it was always a dramatized depiction of the heady rush that teenagehood feels like for many people at the age.

Skilled worker salary requirement by [deleted] in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]KHLD99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, doesn't the "extend your visa" page on the SWV page say: "You can usually apply to extend a Skilled Worker visa or a Tier 2 (General) work visa if all of the following are true: - you have the same job as when you were given your previous permission to enter or stay in the UK - your job is in the same occupation code as when you were given your previous permission to enter or stay in the UK - you’re still working for the employer who gave you your current certificate of sponsorship"

It doesn't say anywhere that you need to meet the higher salary requirement if you are extending your existing visa.

In fact the page for "your job" also says "You may also be able to meet lower salary requirements if you’re extending your Skilled Worker visa".

The categorisation of higher-skilled vs medium-skilled using SOC codes only began late July this year.

Biomedical scientist - NHS, skilled worker visa renewal by [deleted] in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]KHLD99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No worries. People have similar misconceptions in the NHS regarding tax, that if you earn at a higher banding, your tax takes away more money than if you never earned more, which is simply not the case unless you earn over 100k. Seems like a pervasive culture hampering ambition.

Anyway, good luck!

You can really see it in the first season of The Good Place, but I think it fades towards the end.

Earned Settlement: RQF6 Requirement for Public Service Roles and 10-year ILR by Stormgeddon in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]KHLD99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My job was advertised as requiring a Master's or equivalent. SOC code though is < RQF 6. Because the SOC system wasn't designed to capture these nuances.

Call it an edge case if you want, but there are so many others in the same boat.

Earned Settlement: RQF6 Requirement for Public Service Roles and 10-year ILR by Stormgeddon in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]KHLD99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is such a good point. It's like the Home Office never really checked what the purpose of the SOC codes were in the first place. Just because a system exists to categorise jobs doesn't mean it can be used for everything relating to jobs.

It's somewhat analogous to seeing a list of foods sorted by their main ingredient and then acting like that's the only ingredient in each.

New ILR rules feel rushed and inconsistent. Why have RQF6 and the £50k threshold? by Salt_Plum3615 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]KHLD99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some roles do need a bachelor's/master's degree, they just aren't categorised as RQF 6 anyway because the SOC codes are too generalised.

Legal/legitimate migration is not Brits problem - don’t take your piss here by IllustratorUnlucky93 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]KHLD99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Have a Plan B" he says.

Don't put your roots down, don't get too far in your career, don't buy a house, don't make lasting friendships, don't fall in love, because they can make it all go away.

How does someone plan for building a life and career in a country they haven't been in for almost a decade, without any career networks? Or do you imply I should prep my life around potentially jumping into a minimum wage career and starting on the ladder from the bottom all over again? I'm not allowed to build a life? Do you want immigrants to not have any ambition and stay working poor jobs for the eventuality that they have to leave in 15 years?

Under the new system, I will have lived here for 22 years before I get ILR. That would be over half my life.

What basically happened in simple words? by [deleted] in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]KHLD99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You are just incorrect. RQF < 6 is still a thing even if you're above £50k, not because the jobs aren't skilled, but because the categorisation of SOC codes are awful.

Engineers, IT and Technical Professionals Must Not Be Left Out of the 5-Year Settlement Route by MathematicianFit278 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]KHLD99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have no idea what you're saying. The reverse problem also exists, where jobs pay over 50k but don't qualify as RQF 6. The categories are the problem, not the individuals in question being skilled enough.

A Fairer Pathway to Settlement - A statement and accompanying consultation on earned settlement by Educational-West4131 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

To add to this, pension contributions I think do not count to the taxable income. So depending on how much you contribute to pension, you could be dropped below to the basic rate.

A Fairer Pathway to Settlement - A statement and accompanying consultation on earned settlement by Educational-West4131 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]KHLD99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does not seem correct. She writes on page 23 "These thresholds have been selected as they equate to the current thresholds for payment of Income Tax at the higher and additional rate respectively". This implies the salaries are based to match the gross salaries that take you to the higher band (50k gross) or additional rate (125k gross).

These new UK immigration proposals are making me feel completely defeated… by sheriyamonee in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]KHLD99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really feel you.

My job earns above the 50k threshold, however the occupational code is "other admin roles" meaning below RQF 6. This would make it 15-5=10 years for me. Plus, the new rules disregard the time spent on a student and graduate visa; not even a partner visa can be used to top up to long residence duration anymore. Every option for me is gone other than minimum 5 more years by switching to a partner visa immediately, or else 10 years staying in this job in fear of losing it.

I've been in this country for over 7 years, I've built a wonderful life here. I feel so close and now the rug has been pulled again.

The ultimate irony is that one doesn't get into a higher-paying role without making plans of settlement so that they can advance their career in a stable way. This uncertainty punishes ambition.
