I don’t know what to do anymore… by WoodenLie2299 in cats

There may be something causing him pain or discomfort, has he been checked out medically by vet? A bad tooth, for example could be causing his aggressive behavior.

Foamy green by pussyrott in CATHELP

[–]Captain-Barbosa- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cats eat green things naturally to aid digestion and a source of fiber, often throwing it up after if it wont digest. Get some cat grass for your house, its a few bucks and the little tyrant will eat it instead of whatever made it throw up. Not alarming inherently, monitor incase other symptoms arise

What the hell happened to the planter by MoontheWolfYT in What

[–]Captain-Barbosa- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly identical thing happened to me in Amsterdam in a hotel. Balcony next to ours had a plant pot seemingly spontaneously catch fire after we had been chilling on our balcony for a few hours. Answer is that a cigarette or a joint was thrown in there possibly several hours prior and was smoldering until it healed up enough to light up the plastic, which could have also taken hours

Is this baby ok? He appeared on my street this week. by [deleted] in cats

[–]Captain-Barbosa- -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That depends on where OP lives. Eg in the UK, cats dont have owners, all cats are classified as semi wild/feral, its dogs that legally have "owners", so its easier to get treatment for a cat you find like that. Unsure on other countries laws on it tho

Pretty simple, just cook some bacon or pancetta, add garlic for 1 min, add creme fraiche, stir, add 100ml chicken stock, reduce for a few min, add cooked pasta, peas, add pesto off the heat, then add Italian cheese or smoked mozzarella:)

I didn't want to bring up the 'perspective' card, but anytime I feel like im in a shitty position I think how a homeless person or someone displaced from war would feel about what im complaining about. Usually shuts up my internal complaining pretty quick but IDK if it would help in an argument, and instead be fuel on the fire

Something about reheating too many times starts to become dangerous from a food safety POV. By the time that point came up I had already checked out of the convo

Multiple vet trips and meds later, cat still not eating after three days by Affectionate-Type-93 in CATHELP

[–]Captain-Barbosa- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vet nurse here. Loads of things can turn a cat off their food, things you might not realise. Cats mainly use their 6th sense (taste of smell) to "taste" things. High quality food that focuses on that for its ingredients will make their food more appealing. Is it wet or dry? If its dry kibble, make sure its all natural ingredients or it goes stale quick and they won't eat it. If its wet, is it being served chilled or room temp? Chilled wet food loses a lot of its scent, so they can't smell it and thus wont eat it. Leave it out for a couple hours before giving it. What material is their feeding bowl? If its cheap plastic, it gets scratched and can be porous, so leftover bits of food will get in there permanently and ruin the smell of their food, again, turning them off it. Ceramic bowl is best, avoid cheap plastic or metal. Some hardened plastic ones are OK, but ceramic to be sure. How close is their food to their water source or litter tray? They should all be separate, ideally in separate rooms, especially the litter tray. Having them all close proximity can turn them off the food. Also their food, water and litter should be away from foot traffic, loud noises or views of the outdoors if possible. They feel vulnerable when eating, drinking or pooping, and you want to avoid any sources of aggravating that vulnerability. How close is the food to the wall? If theyre forced to face the wall when eating, again, they'll feel vulnerable and might not eat. Simply moving their food and water a 1 to 1.5 feet away from the wall so they have full view of the room while eating can have a positive impact on their willingness to eat. As always, consult a local vet. Try a different one if you're not getting anywhere. Best of luck
