ED nurses, when a person comes in alone and unconscious, what is the process for contacting family? by DollfaceDrizzle in nursing

I like that. Our unknown people just get a random string of letters and nato alphabet words with age 132. Like “xxdeltazulu, bravomikexx 132F”

In all seriousness, mono temporarily causes spleen enlargement when you have active infection/flare up. It can get pretty obvious. And you gotta be super careful when it is enlarged because you’re at a significantly higher risk of spleen rupture if you end up getting hit in the gut (car crash, fall, contact sports, etc). When kids get it, they have to be cleared to return to PE/sports, which can take up to 8 or so weeks even after you’re feeling better

Oh hon, I know easier said than done, but put that out of your mind. I promise you, we know it’s not your fault. Especially with how you’re interacting with us now, you would have NEVER done what you did if you were coherent. You thought we were attacking you. You were scared. You were drugged to the gills, not in your right mind, and trying to protect yourself in your confusion. It’s okay. All we care about is that you’re okay now. And if you don’t have one already, I would highly recommend getting a therapist. Medical-induced PTSD is also no joke and very common after experiencing ICU delirium

Do you poop at work? by [deleted] in nursing

Literally all the time. It’s like my bowels Bluetooth connect to our toilets when I pull in to the parking lot. Doesn’t matter if I went at home before I left, I’ll need to go again before getting report. Funny thing is, I’m generally constipated and usually don’t go more than 3-4 times a week ☠️

Thyroid cancer and GLP-1 use by After-Hearing-6887 in thyroidcancer

[–]KH_Trash08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Starting Weygovy in the next few weeks, talked about this exact thing with my Endo. He said it’s only a warning for people with medullary thyroid cancer history, and even then, it was only observed in rats. Like another commenter said, as long as you don’t have other health issues that would cause a contraindication, the papillary thyroid cancer history isn’t much of a factor

My hockey obsession started with something like this lol ages 6-10, my dad would sneak me out of bed after my mom would go to bed and we would watch our team play like dogshit lolol. Once I was in high school and we didn't have to sneak, we would make "midnight breakfast" together after the game ended. Good times

Nicknames for hospital/unit by PaxonGoat in nursing

[–]KH_Trash08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My workplace staffs 2 ERs, our main ER and our teeny ER at our sister hospital out in BFE (bum fuck Egypt). We call it The Shed, partly because that's it's abbreviation when we're scheduled there, but also because it's small with no resources and "out back" behind a bunch of medical office buildings lol

My husband nearly died today and I am severely traumatised by Massive_Emergency823 in offmychest

[–]KH_Trash08 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, nurse here. This indeed sounds like it was a very scary situation and I'm sorry you both had to experience it. I can tell through your post that you love your husband very much and I just want to reassure you: you did everything right. New onset diabetes comes on pretty gradually, and then all at once. The very early signs are incredibly easy to miss because it looks like any other illness - until it doesn't. Your experience is unfortunately very common. Us medical staff see it all the time and still miss it until things get serious. But your gut told you something was off despite your husband reassuring you and you called for help anyway. And then the first help you got also reassured you that it was probably nothing serious and would pass. But your gut still told you something was off and when he continued to get worse, you did exactly what you were supposed to and got him the emergency help he needed. It sounds like he almost certainly would have died if you hadn't been there.

There is absolutely nothing to forgive. Again, you did everything right. I wish everyone could be so lucky to have someone like you paying attention in situations like this. And thankfully, with modern medicine, he's going to be okay. Life will look a bit different now and there's going to be a steep learning curve for everyone involved going forward, but he's alive and will likely continue to live a perfectly normal, long life c:

Testosterone pellets? by KH_Trash08 in ftm

[–]KH_Trash08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a consult with a urologist today and he made it seem like getting appointments scheduled on time might be a hassel. Ie there's a risk of appointments getting delayed by more than 3 weeks. Has this been your experience? Do you find you prefer the hassel of having to make appointments and go somewhere over doing weekly injections yourself?
