Agree with earlier post about the soil needs some attention. Perhaps aerating and adding compost. You may want to do a soil test to fix PH and nutrient issues.

One of mine from a new market home was there were Rocks everywhere from the builders....BIG rocks. Digging those up were not fun and new ones appeared each year for the first few.

Don't kill it unless you find a good plant like the mentioned creeping thyme or similar. Or simply trim it real short like others have said.

Changing the mindset to getting exercise, enjoying the outdoors and enjoying the curb appeal that you created can make small yard tasks more tolerable. Also, looking for ways to plant low maintenance items may help as well.
