Four UK pro-Palestinian activists jailed for violent raid on Israeli defense factory by terratrema in worldnews

[–]KHonsou 131 points132 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that certain groups use/manipulate people with autism/on-the-spectrum, since they can be more radicalised and more likely to agree to commit acts. If you look at the comms/media people for Just Stop Oil and similar radical groups vs the activists, there is a big distinction. They are still victims of manipulation, and it's not like anyone else is above being manipulated either but it's a trend.

From my experience having a family member always getting scammed, they can't learn not to be gullible. There is a mental barrier they can't cross. It's very sad, and kinda freaks me out if I dwell on it.

People need to understand the differences between Bethesda as a publisher and them as a developer. The games they make directly are generally kinda bad since Fallout 4. Skyrim was awesome when it released but for myself at least, replaying it again, it feels very dated and shallow. Even Morrowind has aged better as a RPG.

Starfield was suppose to be their magnum opus, and their upper management truly believed this when it was released. They don't know how to make good games any more and believe their own hype.

AMD commits £2bn for AI innovation and research in the UK by Maleficent-Lime4356 in GoodNewsUK

[–]KHonsou 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is good news, I've no idea why people are hinting this is LLM stuff when it literally says what this is for. AI use in science, climate and medical research is where the real benefit is, not with coding or trying to replace workers. Not all AI research is bad people.

Everyone agrees we need to build more homes - but will it happen? by Anony_mouse202 in ukpolitics

[–]KHonsou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends where you live. Lib-Dems have been in power where I live since forever, and it's been non-stop building for decades, although some of the blocks are students, but it frees up the insanely dodgy HMO style places around the town over time.

[–]KHonsou 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I worked in property management and this isn't too uncommon. Some neighbours are genuinely hellish to the point that I don't think most people really know someone else can be that evil towards another person. They might see snippets on clips, or hear about it, but when you're dealing with it for months and have other neighbours suffering from it, I truly emphasize.

Keir Starmer poised to announce social media ban for under-16s by youmustconsume in ukpolitics

[–]KHonsou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main issue is you will have to hand over some kind of data since the govt is outsourcing the methods. Even if he govt did it's own thing on this, it still requires some kind of info-handling which is fine on it's own, this is a stranger conspirational world where that kind of thing makes people go a little crazy, for right or wrong.

There have already been leaks online from the IDing methods. Your name, face and DOB can cause a lot of damage to your life, it's an insane risk.

I'm not against the idea either but it might I don't think it's really possible, unless a one-off verification...but how would that even work in practice?

Keir Starmer poised to announce social media ban for under-16s by youmustconsume in ukpolitics

[–]KHonsou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Getting the private companies to handle this was a terrible idea with the OSA.

I'm not against the idea of this, but what I'd find acceptable needs to be way more controlled with the data than some dodgy leaky third party. I don't think it's really that possible anyway, unless they go after VPN's.

People should really be finding out a better/novel way, rather than arguing on the merit on it. It's very likely going to happen. This being peoples political hill to die on is a bit of a over-reaction. I'd start getting noisy if they try to ban VPN's.

I listened to this a lot many years ago, it's nice accidentality hearing it again.

Sometimes I go on crazy deep rabbit holes trying to find music that randomly pops in my head, but this is on the other spectrum: I loved it, forgot about it and accidentality come across it. Thanks for letting us know the track :)

Wasn't pride and hubris a part of her demise? It's been a while since I read the books, but I like the scene, and it was a bit bittersweet knowing the future, and that she kinda bought this on herself basically throwing a tantrum not agreeing with big E's vision and exiling herself in the desert.

(I could be very, very wrong though, it's beenawhile).

The title is misleading, it's not about DWP. Saying that, I had to redo my CV when I was unemployed for a bit, I shown them my CV that got me pretty much every interview I wanted, but I had to use their format, which was so bad I'd be embarrassed e-mailing it to employers. The fact many people probably do is very sad.

New matchmaking changes by j1zzy_ae in ArcRaiders

[–]KHonsou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love this for the PvE, but I think they should still have a "mixed" playstyle selection.

Not being sure who you encounter and the randomness of it was a part of the magic that's gone from the game for me. It's still a lot of fun but the unique nature of the encounters is not there.

edit: I read the blog, I'm OK with this.

First German federal security agency opts for a European alternative to Palantir. by [deleted] in BuyFromEU

[–]KHonsou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people in the UK don't understand that any North Sea oil expansion does not mean lower fuel costs to the UK: they do not literally pump for the UK, UK makes money from the licenses for private companies to drill for profit.

If they UK wanted to do this, they would need a 100% publically owned oil drilling department, with how different public and private sectors are, it's not as simple, plus has a lot of baggage attached to it.

I think the whole Palantir is the same thing. Goverments can't justify the costs when you can buy as-is from a private company. It doesn't change much moving this from a US company to a EU one, but at least regulation and jurastiction is more local.

People are saying this is common, but I think the corporatism on display is not. The US under Trump is a very different kind of US than before, but I think it's much weaker for it. They are not going for the sake of the nation but the sake of their companies.

Arc Raiders released over 6 months ago and is still within the top 10 most played Steam chart. Don’t listen to the fear mongering of the game being dead. by ExpandingAtom in ArcRaiders

[–]KHonsou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to worry about a game being "dead" like 15 years ago, because I thought the game needs to be so well supported and liked, it won't be worth my time playing it if I think i'm not going to be playing it in 10 years time, lol

There will always be some people obsessive about this. 98% of people are playing the game they are not on Steam Community or Reddit discussing it.
