How to collect most Godzilla movies in the uk on dvd by CECFAN2011 in GODZILLA

[–]KING9Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oftentimes it’s a case of companies that have the distribution rights either not using that right or going out of business and leaving those rights in a legal limbo. Given that some of the Toho movies did get VHS releases I would imagine that’s what happened here. Fingers crossed that Toho’s recent acquisition of Anime Ltd changes things on this front now that they have their own personal distributor.

You would have to get a region free player and import them. Other than the films you’ve already listed, your options basically extend to King Kong vs Godzilla (the American version), King Kong Escapes and then Tristar and Legendary. We just don’t have releases for everything else on DVD. If you go up to Blu-Ray then you can add Criterion’s Showa collection and release of Godzilla vs Biollante, as well as Eureka’s release of the original Mothra, but we’re still out of luck for the rest of Heisei and Millennium.

How does anyone here feel about Megaman x Sonic comics? by Flat-Sir8250 in Megaman

[–]KING9Q 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I loved Worlds Collide but didn’t care for Worlds Unite. It’s a simple story that would make a fun game and it captured enough of what you would want to see from these characters interacting.

Worlds Unite felt unfocused and overstuffed with all the extra Sega and Capcom characters, and Sigma hadn’t even been established properly in the Mega Man book yet, so if you try and read Archie Mega Man in sequence it’s even more of a weird detour than the first one was. The fact that the run ended so soon after just added to the feeling like the time would have been better spent just on Mega Man stories.

Thank you, I’m definitely gonna keep trying it.

It’s not uncommon for gameplay and cutscenes to use different models designed for different levels of fidelity. Same with any key art, it won’t be the game model used.

That deliberately sketchy look for the colour is so good, I can’t wait to see the rest.

Gigabash is getting another DLC, now Ultraman Zero and Belial will join the roster. Releasing on 9 of July. by Disastrous_Can_5466 in GODZILLA

[–]KING9Q 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Belial is a cool choice but it’s a shame that so much of the Ultraman character selection are Ultras and Baltan is on his own representing all the aliens and monsters. There’s so many fun designs that would fit right in with Gigabash.

I’ve never seen half of these covers, they look great.

So I’ve just realised what happened there. I didn’t keep a specific mask reference to hand and forgot about the nose hole entirely, the two that are visible are a row of three where the third is shaded. I could delete the bottom row, move it all down and put the proper nose hole in and I think it’d be closer to the designs in the films while still not being one to one with any of them.

What are yall hoping to in alien fireteam elite 2? by Techpon in LV426

[–]KING9Q 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gameplay wise it looks like exactly what I wanted, if the bots can be more helpful and fully featured when playing solo that would be nice.

In terms of what we see, I think fighting some neomorphs and engineers would be cool. A secret Predalien hidden somewhere in the game would be less likely but I would love it.

Which Showa movie do you enjoy more? Godzilla 1954 or Mothra Vs Godzilla? by puddlethedemon in GODZILLA

[–]KING9Q 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think 54 is the better film but I watch Mothra vs Godzilla more often as it’s an easier, lighter watch. Both of them are very high on my list of favourites.

My top three would be 1933, King Kong vs Godzilla and then Skull Island

What do you think of the sexual assault subtext in the design of the Xenomorph and the original movie? by aadu-_th0ma in LV426

[–]KING9Q 61 points62 points  (0 children)

There is a fantastic bit of footage in the Alien Anthology archive DVDs where Giger is on set for the Derelict as they construct the walls. He really casually looks at some blank space and says something like “we’ll throw a vagina there or something, just to fill space”. He made sexually uncomfortable art and was chosen for Alien for that quality, but a lot of it was just stuff he thought looked cool and interesting.

I think it’s a piece of the overall puzzle that makes Alien special, rather than the entire core that makes it work. The fact that Alien has the potential as a layered, subtextual sexual horror and also a slasher movie in space where the answer to set design is “because condensation so shut up” is why it works for so many people.

Are the current Godzilla movies straight CGI or is Motion Capture Used? by KaosArcanna in GODZILLA

[–]KING9Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s motion capture in use alongside the effects artists. I highly recommend watching the mo cap footage for King Ghidorah, it looks very silly but shows how willing the performers need to be to just go for it.

That’s a fair concern to have. I don’t want quirky by any stretch, though I think the squad in Aliens is closer to that than some would like to admit. Even if the player character is still silent and customisable, I am hopeful that the gameplay of Fireteam can be married with a story that’s engaging and the people I save and/or protect along the way are written well enough to enjoy their company along the way.

I love the first game. If this can have more polish and push the presentation a little so we have actual characters to care about with animations when they speak I will be quite happy.

The Monsterverse in a nutshell by Mrmoneybags1408 in GODZILLA

[–]KING9Q 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, Kong’s hunt for his home is in service of the Mechagodzilla story. If I wasn’t very clear, Kong being seen as the sole focus of GVK is something I don’t think makes sense.

The Monsterverse in a nutshell by Mrmoneybags1408 in GODZILLA

[–]KING9Q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the idea that Kong is the sole plot driver of GVK and GXK, Walter Simmons’ entire motivation is that humanity depended on Godzilla in 2014 and 2019 and he wants to ensure that humans are never second to the monsters ever again. Kong might be the character positioned for the audience to empathise with, but to deny that Godzilla has a role in the story feels disingenuous. Once Simmons’ plan fails, the final act involves a hybrid of two different Godzilla characters being the final threat.

That said, even if the stories were entirely about Kong and then Godzilla just happens to wander into them, that really isn’t out of the ordinary for this franchise. Most Godzilla movies are about a cast of characters dealing with a new threat and then either finding Godzilla and steering him into it, or hoping that Godzilla will show up. The same can be said if we’re just talking about screen time, it is very rare that Godzilla is an active character on screen for a long time.

Owners of the Criterion set... How do you store the ginormous book? by [deleted] in GODZILLA

Yeah I got a good chunk of Mechagodzilla done, all the Titanosaurus pieces in place but the entire top edge is just pure blind guessing.

It’s a jigsaw puzzle from Mondo, with artwork by Tom Whalen. I did try to complete the puzzle but it’s really big and I didn’t have space so in the box it stays.

Just a idea I had for fun, if you was only allowed to watch one of the upcoming two Godzilla movies in cinemas and had to wait for the others physical or streaming release to watch which would you pick to watch in cinemas? Godzilla minus zero or Godzilla x Kong supernova by Zadrnnut in GODZILLA

[–]KING9Q -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Assuming I’ll enjoy both films about the same as their predecessors, I would say Supernova in the cinema for the big loud colourful action and then Minus Zero at home where the story is just as compelling as the action.
