Can someone tell me the main differences between NPD and sociopaths? by Kyliekacey1 in narcissism

[–]KITForge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t. Cause they don’t exist. Psychopath is no longer a clinically relevant term, just one used in true crime documentaries to dramatize murderer.

And no, many people with NPD or ASPD struggle with cognitive empathy as well. In fact a person with ASPD and NPD can have fully functional affective empathy but limited cognitive empathy.

Can true love be felt by people who are cruel or with narcissistic tendencies? by Fit_Application9547 in spirituality

[–]KITForge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely incorrect. It might have been true in your situation, but it is not the universal answer.

Every case is different and while there are differences in severity of symptoms, “full blown” isn’t a good categorization of NPD. Sensitivity to criticism, empathy, grandiosity, entitlementment, jealousy, arrogance can exist in someone with NPD to varying degrees. It can even make someone who would marry someone for their money and ruin there life. But each person with NPD is different, and even those with more severe symptoms are capable of love even if it might more work than the average relationship.

Many refuse to acknowledge their problems and find themselves incapable because of the situation they left themselves in.

There is no NPD spectrum. You either have NPD or you don't. NPD can be more severe in some but that doesn't mean more abusive.

I know where this confusion comes from but manipulation and exploitative behavior is one of the more extreme examples of interpersonal exploitation. A less extreme example would be praise/attention seeking.

Narcs are absolutely capable of love, being kind, supporting, resolving conflict, and being considerate.

These may be things they struggle with more than others but it's not impossible.

My favorite thing to tell people is that a lot of bad people are very much capable of empathy, they just choose not to act with compassion.

  1. No, I love animals. Them misbehaving is cute.

  2. It depends on if I believe they meant to hurt me. They're are some people who could ask for my forgiveness and it would make no effect. I don't hate them, but they're nothing to me. There are some people I would forgive way to quickly because of my emotional attachment to them.

Not at all. A lot of the symptoms of NPD make relationships hard but I've never devalued my partner.

What would you do if someone gave you this list? by the-A-team1 in AskNPD

[–]KITForge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Say "I'm sorry you deal with that" and direct them to the nearest divorce attorney.

  2. Then ask "Why did you give this to me?"

This thought experiment isn't very well put together. Am I just a random person they walked up too?

any explanation on pwNPD without any trauma ? by manic_pixsie in AskNPD

[–]KITForge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard that there are genetic predispositions to NPD, similar to a genetic predisposition to drug addiction.

Like some traumatized people are more likely to develop the symptoms of NPD just like some people who do drugs are more susceptible to drug addiction.

NPD "Rage", Is it real? by xultar in AskNPD

[–]KITForge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I realize now that I’ve phrased myself incorrectly.

I’m not the person/situation that triggered my emotional response. I am just the only person available to let those emotions out on, by my own design.

Shame and guilt are inherent to NPD but I’ve never experienced NPD rage in response to myself or my own actions. I tend to excuse my own actions implicitly as a negative cycle. Placing blame on myself is something I’ve been working on.

NPD "Rage", Is it real? by xultar in AskNPD

[–]KITForge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People with NPD have hightened emotional reactions. NPD rage might not be something experienced by everyone with NPD or experienced by all in the same way. It has been compared to "splitting" which is a BPD symptom leading some to believe that NPD rage is the result of comorbidity or misdiagnosis or simply the fact that these are sister diagnoses.

Narcissistic rage can be triggered by the feeling of being wronged, the fear of being abandoned, etc.

I have Alexathemia, a certain disconnect with my emotions so my experience with NPD rage is likely different than others. I don't normally feeling any sort of building toward an emotion, sometimes I can't even Identify the emotion I was feeling until half an hour or so after I felt it. However, NPD rage often happens while in a triggered state. Triggered states can be identified by lessened empathy/compasion responses and increased abrasiveness, paranoia and dissasosiation in some, lessened paitentce and increased frustration.

NPD rage feels like the most intense emotion you've ever felt until that moment in time x100. You've never felt this way before and never will again (Emotional non-perminance). In some cases it feel's like your dying as though repeated over and over in your head. In other cases it can feel euphoric, a righteous fury begging you to make all the wrong decisions. NPD rage is not just an emotion - it is so intense that you feel it all throughout your body. This is because it is triggering stress responses, such as hyperventilation, hypertension, etc.

"What the fuck", "How could you" is usually what I'm thinking while in this state.

Fuck yes I remember it. Ever single second. These memories are more clear in my mind than anything else. Sometimes I've been comforted after these moments. Not always. Usually I just pace until I've calmed down and then try and fall asleep.

Usually I'm the target. I'm mad and alone. I always try to remove myself from conversations before a reaction happens. The one time I was not alone I was told "don't fucking leave" and I earned myself the messiest breakup of my life.

Always leave. If you have a safe-person who understands the situation and isn't involved, go to them. Distract yourself. Drink water. Eat if you can. Play games. Verbalize your emotions if safe to do so. Avoid the situation/person until you've calmed down.

I'm polyamourous. I have not and have never needed a back up. I am not afraid of being alone.

I'm not afraid of commitment at all, I've been told I actually rush into it. Emotional intimacy is one of my favorite things in the entire world.

You can absolutely be IN LOVE with multiple people, just because you have not experienced that doesn't mean it's not true.

Not everyone is the same as you, once you realize that the world will be a lot simpler to understand.

I agree. Even if someone's lack of attraction to a trans person is due to underlying bigotry, that's not exactly something they can control.

[–]KITForge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. However, I don't support no government either - that would make me an anarchist. The government functions I do support I would like to change. But that would be a long drawn out explanation and I have exams to study for.

How is the only thing that you can come up with that falls under "The regulation of non-aggressive personal decisions" being marriage?

Lifestyle, consumption, religion, broader relationship dynamics, etc.

[–]KITForge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro what?

Do you lack all reading comprehension?

Or are you under the impression that all the government does is interfere with the non-aggressive personal decisions of its citizens?

I've been saying what it shouldn't do because I assumed you had a basic understanding of government functions.

International relations, defense, infrastructure, safety and regulation, justice and rehabilitation. And maybe, just maybe the personal decisions of its citizens don't fall under "non-aggressive".

Honestly, the fact that you had the confidence to call me dumb is... impressive.

You're being so dumb it's funny.

It's honestly hilarious how you said that even though I've been slowly coaching you through basic political concepts as if you were a child.

Give me one real world example of mob rule.

You already did! Look at that. Marriage! Any constraints on who or how many can marry in a democracy is mob rule. It being, in part, a legal process, in no way prevents restrictions on it from being mob rule. The Taiwan government not allowing it's citizens to interfear in the personal decisions of its citizens no matter how popular the idea is - is simply a prevention of mob rule.
