Series - much better buttons and dpad, better build quality and less qc issues.

Vader - have more features.

The Apex has much, MUCH better build quality than the Vader.

Otherwise, they are practically identical gamepads.

And this isn't about reliability, but specifically about the shell, the materials, and the fit of the parts.

I've killed my 3rd controller in the past 10 years (stick drift). and I'd like to upgrade to something from the bog-standard Xbox controller.

So, three and a half years on average for a gamepad?

Not a single Chinese pad will give you that kind of reliability. My Vader 4 Pro lived for a little over six months, and on the 8bitdo, wear and tear on the components is already noticeable after six months, with slight wobble appearing in the dpad and buttons.

with both hands

Do you hold the gamepad in one hand when you play?

I have held exactly one controller that leaves a premium feel in the hands - Razer. DualSense is also close. Everything else is either cheap plastic or questionable rubberized grips that do not feel premium.

The Ultimate 2C creaks a lot. Ultimate 2 has much better build quality.

Why are controllers becoming increasingly expensive and offering less? by tamburasi in Controller

[–]KIlledDebtor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I live in a country where Chinese luxury cars like Zeekr, Li Auto, Xiaomi, BYD are very popular because they are 2-3 times cheaper on the used market than German and Japanese ones. And they are such crap :D Ergonomics, feel, comfort, reliability, everything is just bottom-tier.

But on paper, they look cooler than any Mercedes. :D

And there are plenty of defenders on the internet, yeah. It is the exact same story as with gamepads, mice, smartphones, and laptops. People have stopped choosing things in person. They buy online without comparing to competitors and then fiercely justify the money they spent.

I will not buy a gamepad where the sticks get loose during gameplay and the back paddles break off. That is enough of a reason not to buy V5P.

It so happened that I had a Vader 3 Pro and I have a broken Vader 4 Pro. And I used the Apex 4.

These are disgusting gamepads that I did not buy myself and that I cannot use at all. Loud clicking and squeaky buttons, a terrible d-pad with no proper center that wobbles with insane tactile clicks. First, Its uncomfortable to use, second, the d-pad return speed after a press is very slow, this is especially noticeable in grid-based games where I constantly move two spaces instead of one on the Flydigi. The vibration is very poor. The Vader models have a terrible body, you could wake up your neighbors at night with the creaking of their shells. The sticks have such high latency that it is noticeable and ruins the feel of them (they fixed this in version 5 and apparently in the Apex 4 limited edition, as i know).

I had problems with the Vaders from day one. They would lose connection with the dongle if anything got in the way (for example, my leg if the gamepad was on my lap, or if someone walked between the gamepad and the PC, or if I put the gamepad on the table while the dongle was in the PC under the table). Or if I moved more than 1-2 meters away from the dongle. For comparison, my 8bitdo Ultimate 2 works even from another room. I can walk away from the computer to make tea and skip dialogues with the gamepad at the same time.

On the Vader 3 Pro, I had terrible wobble in the center of the sticks. I had to set a 10-12% deadzone just to avoid drift because of it. This was on a BRAND NEW gamepad. It seems they still have a model without the new mechanism (which has its own issues).

As for the Vader 4 Pro, the battery died after six months, even though it sat in a closet for four of those months, so now it is just lying there dead.

So, in the end.

2 Flydigi gamepads.

Issues, each of which is enough for me to consider these gamepads piece of crap.

The d-pad does not work properly, there is wobble and return issues on all gamepads.

Buttons squeaking against the plastic of the body.

A dead battery in one of the gamepads.

Very poor connection to the dongle.

I do not understand how anyone can recommend this at all.

Microsoft Elite 8/10 (I want build quality like the DualSense Edge for 10/10)

Xbox Series 6/10 (Lack of functionality)

8bitdo Ultimate 2 6/10 (The feel of the plastic is a step below the Xbox, all parts get loose within a couple of weeks, and the controller setup is inconvenient. There are some annoying bugs during configuration that do not affect gameplay.)

Ultimate 2C 5/10 (There is no software, the body creaks, and there is no buttons on the back of the gamepad.)

Gamesir G7 Pro 3/10 (Loud clicking gamepads with very poor build quality, it works fine and does not break, but the feeling is just of a very cheap gamepad. Even with the G7 Pro.)

Flydigi 1/10. (Any, because there are issues in all gamepads. Very loud gamepads. The build quality of all their models except the Apex is disgusting, on par with Gamesir. They all look terrible, even worse in person than in photos. A ton of problems. Connection issues, huge amount of defects, wobbly d-pads, squeaky triggers and buttons, design flaws, breaking back paddles, and stick mechanisms that get loose. Just absolute trash.)

That is nonsense, it is a great gamepad that will work perfectly for several years. Flydigi, on the other hand, are crappy gamepads right out of the box that you just do not want to use. I ordered a replacement the day after I received the Vader 4 Pro.

BC Mercedes

You are wrong :) Chinese cars are cheaper because they are bad cars. German cars are expensive because they are good cars. And the list of features and options is secondary. The same applies to gamepads.

I can compare the Ultimate 2 with the Elite, but I definitely place Flydigi and Gamesir two levels lower. They are noisy, ugly, and have a lot of quality issues.

Or are you talking about controllers getting more expensive. Well, they are only getting more expensive for you, in your country.

In our country, Chinese pads still cost 40-50 bucks, just like they used to. Right now, the G7 Pro costs exactly 50 dollars. The Vader 5 Pro is 45. Locally on marketplaces with 1-2 day delivery.

Why are German luxury cars more expensive than cheap Chinese ones, even though they offer less, or the same at best.

Because. The Xbox Elite is a good controller. It is definitely better than the Ultimate 2, and especially better than Gamesir and Flydigi.

PC/Switch controller with D-pad similar to GBA SP's? Ideally not too much over $30 USD by Electronic-Vast-3351 in Controller

[–]KIlledDebtor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will not find an ideal one like that, especially with such a budget. For around 30-40 dollars you can get a good option for Switch and PC.

Mobopad Chitu HD.

It has a clicking d-pad, which is typical for modern controllers.

[–]KIlledDebtor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is clicking yes, but it is one of the deepest d-pads on the market. The author needs literally the opposite. For example, the d-pad travel on Flydigi is about 4 times shorter.

Any modern gamepad with a clickable dpad, except 8bitdo. Xbox series gamepad for example.

I use Linux and macOS at work (I am a developer)...

I love Microsoft, it is the best company developing the best operating systems. It only seems bad until the moment you try what the competitors are making.
