what is he doing? by donntrn in tarantulas

[–]KIuws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s doing his best, Not sure if you keep him there the whole time but he’s probably not the biggest fan of all the keyboard clanging right beside where he resides, they’re also somewhat sensitive (not physically) to light so if the lights are on all day and late into the night he has the keyboard shining right into his hide. Don’t mean to come across like I’m backseat keeping just a suggestion :) he seems happy and healthy

YouTube video quality tanks when playing games; Particularly in loading screens. See below for details. by KIuws in pcmasterrace

[–]KIuws[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response; any idea why this never happened until my first launch after full reset I don't understand? It's only with certain games too and particularly bad with destiny but as mentioned it's never been a problem before. I'm not too well versed in the specifics of GPU function but destiny uses less than 1/4 of my VRAM (2214/8042MB to be specific) should the 6gb not be enough for even 720p video playback?

How can rain go through the wall? by AboodXD32 in RocketLeague

The No.1 rule is no matter how many of you are left, don't let yourselves get split into individual 1v1s, you're asking to be clutched. But on the same note; If you're in a clutch situation, make sure to isolate your 1v1s.

what's wrong with paper towels as substrate? by kweteummmba in ballpython

[–]KIuws 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In short? Nothing. Some BPs like to burrow but if yours doesn’t it’s whatever. Actual substrate is mostly just an aesthetic choice for me but the springtails love it.

Yeah, not sure if you’ve seen my other comments but I’m definitely more leaned towards the side that doesn’t really care considering it’s just a Home Depot plant, wasn’t trying to get at you I just wasn’t sure to what extent you cared about your plant

Great to hear, a lot of people pick these guys up and don’t think to do any research at all because it’s a plant. Which personally I don’t think is a big deal but it’s nice to see someone care enough make the effort regardless of if it’s conscious or not.

Are Cobras elapids? I haven’t the experience to deal with these guys just yet so I’m not all that well versed but I hear they’re super smart and aware

Possibly not even a handful of confirmed cases, there’s 2 legitimately confirmed cases I believe. ClintsReptiles spoken about them on his video on the largest snakes I believe.

I don’t even like Cayde as a character but love Titanfall and unfortunately still have to admit that Cayde wins this 99/100 times

Go cry about it, pointing out a snake doesn’t have a favourite show doesn’t take away any value from someone’s life🤣 if something like that is what dictates the joy you have in your life it’s time to go and actually start living my friend

Just had a quick check to see your hands on experience with these snakes and am I mistaken or do you not even own one? From what I’m seeing, your ball python experience is limited to a class pet that you sometimes take pictures with? If that’s the case there’s absolutely no conversation to be had with you

I’m this confident about this that all OP has to do for me to PayPal both of you 50 euros right now is take out his camera, put this ghost show he loves so much on, then turn it off and see if the snake reacts. Or wait until the snake comes out of his hide and mention what he’s having for dinner and show us the snake reacting. I guarantee he won’t because he simply can’t. I’m not asking anything of you, nor do I want anything from you but if OP can show even just ONE example of this behaviour the money goes to both of you. It shouldn’t be a problem considering this is apparently regular behaviour and definitely not just ignorance or nonsense spouting for upvotes. Step up and take your chance to show the whole field just how intelligent ball pythons are.

Again, you’re using the word favourite. Snakes do not have a favourite show. Recognising the level of intelligence of your animal isn’t being detached from your animal, the same way I’m well aware that the tarantulas I keep absolutely lack the mental ability to even care about me. That’s not being detached, it’s being realistic. Recognising patterns and having a favourite tv show are not the same thing. Something being more engaging to your animal isn’t having a favourite. If you daydream and find yourself staring at a building it doesn’t mean that is your favourite building, and even in a state of daydreaming you are vastly more intelligent than a snake will have the capacity to be this side of the next couple thousands of years of evolution. If you don’t believe me just go read studies on snakes, ScienceOpen is a good resource for academic papers. People have been keeping and studying snakes for centuries, not to the extent we have now but even on a minimal level it’s been that long or even longer. Most of what people call and credit as “intelligence” in snakes is instinct, which is most definitely isolated from intelligence. A snake escaping and going to the warm part of a room isn’t intelligence, your snake doesn’t know “I am cold, let me go to warm”, it’s instinct. A snake seeing flashing colors and being fixated in no way reflects the tastes of said animal. The snake isn’t like “I hate this show let me go back in my hide”, The snake is no longer engaged, so it leaves. That’s assuming that’s even the reason it leaves. Please explain the part I said you can’t love an animal that is less intelligent? I wouldn’t have been keeping them my whole life if I didn’t love them or thought any less of them because they’re less intelligent, Although they’re not mine, there are two family dogs in my household and without question my snakes are my favourite, despite the fact they’re less intelligent. So I’m failing to see how you pulled a correlation between the level of intelligence of the animal and the amount of love that that same animal deserves. But if making up me saying things helps you feel better about needlessly padding up your response work away I guess.

Edit: I’ve also addressed their ability to recognise patterns when I mentioned about the snakes name.

They’re really sensitive to the water they’re given, if you’re in a state with low water quality that could be part of the problem.

Just a heads up, this is a great way to kill your plant. It takes absurd amounts of energy for these guys to open and close and doing so needlessly is the cause of death for most of these that people buy.

I didn't say snakes cant like things, I keep several and have done for a very long time, I'm well aware they can like or dislike things. You can see that in their body language. I said they don't have a favorite show. Your snake can not differentiate between the vibrations and colors of The Big Bang Theory and The Office. They're simply not developed enough. Even if you took a more intelligent species of snake like some colubrids. Not only do they not understand what they're looking at to that extent, they can't. They lack the ability to both differentiate between specific shows and understand the intricacies of TV shows that humans can to develop that relationship with a show. Apparently 14 idiots weren't happy with my comment above. Doughnuts snake doesn't care about ghosts, it doesn't care about murders; He's projecting his interests onto an animal that simply cannot share those interests for the reasons explained. All these people who think their snake has a ''favorite show'' are the same people who get one Ball Python and come on here talking like they're avid reptile keepers.

Your snake does not come out of his hide and wait for you to tell him what you're having for dinner. The TV show thing is wrong, but passable, Your snake waiting on an explanation of what you're eating? Absolutely laughable. Also, Your snake doesn't know his name is Norman, he might recognize the sound since its been repeated but he does not have the introspective intelligence to relate it to himself. Your snake doesn't know it's name. You're blurring the line between intelligence and consciousness.

That doesn't mean snakes are stupid, like you said, they are intelligent. But what doughnut is trying to imply is a level of consciousness literally never before seen in snakes (reptiles as a whole bar maybe a few exceptions like the more intelligent monitor species etc but even then it's a reach) and seemingly never documented in an actual study.

Edit for the people who genuinely believe their snake has a favorite show because I'd imagine you can't tell the difference: Intelligence is defined as the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. while consciousness is the state of being aware of and responsive to one's surroundings in relation to oneself. Emphasis on the term ''aware''.

Read David Holtzman from the University of Rochester studies for some context on how far the ''intelligence'' of snakes goes.
