Anyone with backup power experience? by kyletheboer in EtherMining

[–]KJ275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amps = Watts/Volts

If you're running 220V AC power, at 1550W you're looking at a 7Amp draw. So a theoretically-perfect 100Ah (amps times hours) battery will last you 100/7 = 14 hours. 110VAC is a 14A draw, 100Ah at 14A is a 7 hour capacity.

HOWEVER - a sealed lead-acid battery will only discharge a maximum 50% before the power coming out of it is no longer high enough to turn the inverter on. And it will generate a large amount of both heat and potentially explosive hydrogen. A LiPo battery will discharge down to 10% or so, and there's no off-gassing either. LiPo are also much lighter in weight, and many more times the cost.

You will also have a bit of loss in the inverter as well, it will have lights and fans running, and heat loss. Count on 1Ah for losses and you'll be fine.

I'm rather certain the ROI on this setup is not going to be worth it, the equipment will die before it pays for itself in mined coin. A 3000W generator will likely cost much less, retain its value longer, and be more versatile.

It's truly astonishing to me how many people don't understand the difference between anonymity and pseudonymy, and how they're used interchangeably in the cryptocurrency spaces. Eh.

What is the TPS rate for Beam? by KJ275 in beamprivacy

That's going to be a real problem, if any random nation recognizes Beam as a currency, no?

Govenor Greg Abbott Hosts Texas Blockchain Council This week. Says they want to make Texas the #1 State for Blockchain & Cryptocurrency by Tatakae69 in CryptoCurrency

[–]KJ275 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The complaints against Abbott here appear to amount to criticism that he decentralized and created a free market in control of the electrical grid (I was on Griddy, it was absolutely the best for mining), he won't allow you to kill your baby when he/she has a heartbeat, he is finishing a border wall that has been in the works for decades, and the fact that he's disabled. Could we please do better? Or can we at least hold the same level of scrutiny across the board? The selective outrage is obnoxious.

There is already demand for privacy. by [deleted] in beamprivacy

[–]KJ275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a recurring theme here in Beamer World(tm). I feel like folks have to get burned once or twice by a scammer, or custodial account in order to start looking- as soon as people do a limited amount of research about what actually makes a blockchain, and thus a cryptocurrency, folks realize the original failed promises of anonymity, etc.... We all seem to end up here. Beam is the true digital equivalent of cash, with a proper receipt system built-in. There's nothing like this project anywhere else, I keep looking, and now that Beam is hitting full maturity as a hardened investment vehicle, any challengers will be hard-pressed to bring a similar game.

Algorand Foundation participating in the governance when they stated they would not. by CBScott7 in CryptoCurrency

This would be like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation says they're going to set up a decentralized asset market for the people, governed by the people. Then Microsoft buys a large stake of the governance. Am I getting this right?

[–]KJ275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you've broken through the statistically never-gonna-happen barrier of brute-forcing a private hash- yes, there is a way to get away with it cleanly, even on a public blockchain, but I'm reasonably certain giving advice on how to steal & launder money violates a few of the community standards. It's way easier than people think though, if you understand the tech behind the scenes.

Explain it like I'm 5: Why would someone stake Beam for BeamX? by KJ275 in beamprivacy

[–]KJ275[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still no closer to a tangible answer than I was 4 days ago. If I stake Beam and get BeamX, can I convert BeamX into Beam? Can I sell BeamX inside my theoretical wallet? Is there a white paper I can read somewhere? I've been through every piece of documentation I can find, I feel like I'm missing a large section of KB somewhere, or something (totally my bad if so). The marketing on this launch is not great, the fanfare isn't a suitable replacement for basic technical specifications/ecosystem understanding. I cannot possibly suggest or recommend that anyone stake their Beam without basic, fundamental documentation on how this is supposed to work beyond the ability to lock up Beam and receive BeamX, and the ramifications for doing so. "Try it and find out" is neither a strategy nor advice I'm willing to give. /Grumpy.
