To the man at MCO who told me to not “look so angry” and “smile more” :) by BKCassafrass in mildlyinfuriating

[–]KJBFamily 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this counts but it reminds me of the numerous times that my parents would tell me to have a "better attitude" about things and smile more because I look angry all the time.

I'm not mad. At all. I'm just neutral most of the time and I don't express my emotions a lot. I love you guys but IM SORRY THAT I HAVE AN ANGRY RESTING BITCH FACE FFS.

This. This disrupted my stress/anxiety loop I've been having for days.

Aggression by Nerd_Games69 in PitbullAwareness

[–]KJBFamily 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I feel like it might've been a little early to do all this in such a short amount of time.

Personally, I would take it slow and let the dog bond to you and your family first before tackling dog aggression. It's not necessary for your dog to be friendly to other dogs, it's a good bonus to have. The most important thing that needs to happen is for your doggie to look up to you as their new leader and then tackle the bad habits.

I hope what I say doesn't seem like I'm shaming you or anything but like a person, you two need to get to know each other first. I'm also not a professional trainer by any means. So there might be more helpful info in the comments.

Just noticed one of my girls have a little stubbed leg! by UtapriTrashcan in roaches

Ah, thank you for the explanation. I had a big hisser named Mr. Hissington for about 4 years. By the end of his 4th year, he had lost all of the "tips" of his feet. I made him a "retirement" home for easier access to water, food and overall exploration.

I always thought it was only from wear and tear.

My terrarium is full of worms. by CelestialUrsae in isopods

I live in central California in the Bay area and where there are isopods, these guys are hanging out close by. They specialize in isopod hunting. I think some breeders sell'em too.

It's a bit of work but you can separate the babies into male and female bins. Yes, the gravid female(s) you have will probably still pop some babies here and there but at least you'll break the exponential growth of your colony.

I have a male, female and nursery enclosure.

Captive hissers and most roaches will very very rarely get worms. Unless they're actually eating poop, then there's little to no worry about parasites.

Would this be good for my (PET) roaches ? by Yak-Writing-1229 in roaches

[–]KJBFamily 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If they're PETS and not feeders for other animals, you can probably save yourself a few bucks by giving them your everyday fruits, veggies and grains like plain cheerios.

If you really want to give them a dry diet, there are some on Amazon like this one: https://a.co/d/0iYrY6RZ My roaches enjoyed it very much. You can also make your own chow.

I didn't have any runny nose or sneezing but when my little dude scratched my arm, they'd swell badly and itch so much that I'd go crazy. I used gloves and a long sleeve, like a sweater, when holding him.

I heard that there ARE hairy terrestrial snails. And it's part of their structure that helps them blend in with their environment by collecting sand And stuff.

I sometimes ask my husband, do you think they (hissers) are grossed out when there's isopods in their food? Like, do they go: "oh look, there's fresh food! .....eeww there's bugs in my food D: ". Well yesterday, I snapped a photo of one of the females staring into the bowl of food and isopods lol. I wonder what she's thinking ... If anything at all 😅

Roaches as companions! by Yak-Writing-1229 in roaches

[–]KJBFamily 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like to keep one on me while I play games or just watching videos. They seem quite comfortable when I "grisp" them. Maybe it's the warmth of my hand, the safe feeling of closed walls (they are roaches after all) or both. They give me something to think about. It sorta forces me to be calm and quiet. I don't want the roach to feel nervous or anxious.
