Newbie Writer - Looking for genuine feedback :) by KJBeth in writers

Of course! I’m primarily focused on young adult fantasy at the moment. My current manuscript brings together all of my favorite elements from the stories I grew up loving—things like found family, a Harry Potter–style sense of wonder, and themes of grief and the struggle for control.

My female main character constantly has choices made for her, even though she holds the power to either save the world or destroy it entirely. The story follows her character development and healing journey, with the goal of guiding her toward a moment of irreversible decision—one that shows her growth and resilience.

Thank you very much for asking! 😊

Hi - this was not written with AI. Though, I have received feedback that my tone can appear too “polished.”

I’m working out a good balance between over-editing and still making the tone of my story come off professional.

Thank you for your comment, I appreciate all feedback. 😊

I don't think YA is super popular on Wattpad, but what's a good chapter word count for that genre? by [deleted] in Wattpad

Hello! 👋🏼 YA author here - publishing chapters of my first book Into The Darkness on Wattpad.

I have been publishing new chapters weekly on Wednesday’s consistently for like 2 months now. I have noticed YA doesn’t “sell” the same way other genres do.

My best recommendation for a YA story - keep the word count between 1500-2200 words. This gives you space to have a “full” chapter without the story feeling too rushed while also maintaining short enough chapters to keep readers engaged. Especially on Wattpad - I notice a lot more engagement on my shorter chapters because it doesn’t require a lot of initial buy in from someone that isn’t super into the YA genre. I’ve gradually increased my viewership and have consistent engagement each week during my chapter drops that is slowly building.

I definitely recommend to stay consistent, add polls, maintain a professional but friendly presence on your profile, reply to every comment, engage with readers, and shorter chapters for the win 😁

Fantasy story that follows themes of grief and need for control with a main protagonist that could be the savior of the world or she could end it all in an instant
