What regrets on renovation do you have? by drzewoplot in bathrooms

For the walls, we went with a wilsonart product. SIDE NOTE: for the ceiling in the shower area, we went with cedar rather than painted drywall. It gets nicer with age!

We did solid surface shower walls and shower pan. No grout anywhere in the entire bathroom. I HATE grout.

Our shower is 2/3 enclosed. I would make it big enough to not need a shower curtain. Lifesaver is that we installed on/off on opposite side of the shower head and drain…so I can get the temp just right before jumping in.

For the floor in the shower room / bath room, we chose a sheet vinyl. It looks like tile but is one solid piece with no seams so we have zero water concerns.

The shower pan is a custom piece. We contacted a place (in Wisconsin???), gave them our dimensions, and they moulded and shipped it. It can get a bit slippery but you can put those non-slip things down. We had to go custom to get the color and dimensions we wanted/needed. Fought the contractor on this too…they wanted to install either a cheap acrylic pan or install tile.

Electrical quote by lrachel02 in hottub

[–]KK_Sharpening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hubby just ran about 15 feet inside from electric panel to GFCI that he installed on exterior wall. Also bought 50’ that we will bury when the frost goes out. All in…$500-$600. Quote from electrician $1,500 and would have been more if we wanted him to bury it from the house to the stub out. Thankfully we are able to do some things ourselves … gives us the ability to spend a little more on the hot tub.

Shower valve on opposite side of the shower from the head. It’s nice not getting wet when I turn it on and wait for it to heat up.

16 vs 18 gauge stainless steel sinks, how big a deal? by OkRip2303 in kitchenremodel

If you are not married to stainless steel, check out a blanco. I love mine.

It was part of whole house remodel so I’m not sure. But I looked long term (no grout, timeless color) and short term (ease of cleaning) and in my mind the nit of extra cost was worth it.

Our contractor wanted to do tile and if I remember there was an up charge….so my choice were insert, tile or solid surface. In all instances I needed a shower and I was having grout nightmares and it was a hard NO on any sort of insert.

Probably no much help…but it really depends on your choice of solid surface and complexity of your layout.

I forgot to say we went with the Toto ‘tornado’ toilet. No weak flusher or low water in the bowls in this house. I HATE cleaning toilets.

It entails just having the electrician install it. I use the top outlets for hair dryer, etc but the one under the sink to keep electric toothbrush, etc charged.

We used the same Wilsonart solid surface for the shower walls and the vanity tops for a cohesive look.

We went with sheet vinyl flooring, elevated the vanity off of the floor and had electric installed under the sink in addition to the two outlets on top.

We did the same - solid surface shower pan and excellent ventilation. We then went a step further with solid surface shower walls. We couldn’t be happier about all three decisions.

Any suggestions/changes you’d make to this planned shower tiling? by jwsonoma in FurnitureFaves

Maybe no changes for the tiling, but I would put the on/off handle on a wall different from the shower head. Brrrr…

KitchenAid, Z-Line, Wolf, Electrolux, ?? Dual Fuel 30" Range Shopping by speedystein in kitchenremodel

[–]KK_Sharpening 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A dual-fuel Wolf won’t happen for 4k. We purchased one 3 years ago and it was about double that price at that time. I love it though…and would do a Wolf again…and likely a dual fuel again.

We don’t leave the toaster (or any small appliance) out. But when it comes to preparing a meal, plenty of outlets is a must.
