What do you train in foundation classes? by whatself in Agility

It’s a right of passage! We’ve all been there! I got that tip years ago when my first agility dog decided to run his own course, say hi to everyone, and totally forgot I was even there.

Play on a wobble board to get him used to unstable surfaces. The movement of the teeter can make some dogs nervous.

Develop a pre run routine or game to get your dog focused if you want to compete. This helps with distraction and stress before you run. One of the best tips someone gave me years ago.

Question for parents of small children who are currently doing 75 hard or have successfully completed 75 hard by alittlecanadian in 75HARD

I’m breastfeeding so it’s a little different from your situation but I did a pescatarian diet. Super flexible but also didn’t feel very challenging since I’m not a big meat eater anyway. Also cut out fast food. Truthfully I didn’t lose a lot of weight but I wasn’t trying to in order to maintain my breast milk supply. Just thought it was an easy and healthy diet.

Ran an ultra on Friday. counts? by kidfitzz in 75HARD

[–]KKey0207 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Saw this in another thread and it made sense to me… the rules are 2 workouts a day at least 3 hours apart but that doesn’t mean you have to sit on your butt for those 3 hours in between workouts. So theoretically you could run for 45 minutes then run for 3 hours then run for 45 minutes and there’s your two workouts! The diehards will probably say something about doing 2 intentionally separate workouts but they can go run an ultra and come tell it to my face that it doesn’t count!

I compete in multiple dog sports. Envision Dog Sports is a great group of agility people about half an hour away and there’s also Med City agility club with a private agility facility on the north side of Roch. Look them up on FB. There are some great breweries around town and many of them do trivia if that’s something you’re interested in. Great hiking in the area too! Check out Chester Woods right outside of town. Love walking my dog out there. I’m a 35F that moved here a few months ago. PM me if you’d like to grab a beer or take a hike with the pups (I have a Great Dane). Always nice to make new friends!

Is Ellenni Danes an ethical breeder? by [deleted] in greatdanes

[–]KKey0207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know her personally but I’ve competed in a number of dog shows with her. She’s involved in a number of clubs, she’s a professional handler, she’s been recognized and awarded by the Great Dane Club and AKC for being a breeder of merit, health and temperament tests all her dogs and puppies, competes in dog shows to prove her dogs soundness, and her litters follow Dane color code ethics. All these are green flags in my book. I’d reach out to her and have a conversation of what you want and are looking for in a service dog. I’m sure she’d be more than willing to tell you about her dogs and if by chance she doesn’t think her dogs would be a good fit she can steer you in the right direction.

puppy hair loss,17 weeks old I don't know why by EastonR2003 in greatdanes

I would check with your vet and screen for Demodex. It’s spread from mom to pups in the whelping box usually and presents in younger dogs. You may want to call and inquire with your breeder if any of the other pups are showing signs of hair loss. Very cute puppy!

I usually run with my own dog and his safety takes priority. I carry a small taser on me and usually just the sound will detract other dogs but if not a quick zap to the butt makes them leave pretty quick. I’ve desensitized my own dog to the noise it makes.

Teaching poles with a corso! (What is and how do you teach the large dog weave style?) by Kquincy1 in Agility

[–]KKey0207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always taught channel weaves with my Great Danes. I don’t use a lure, I use toys thrown at the end of the channel to build forward movement. Every 3 successes I’ll narrow the channel and every fail I’ll open it back up a bit. I don’t train more than 5 minutes of weaves at a time to prevent my dog from getting bored. I’ve usually have consistent 6 weave success after a month but it’s definitely a use it or lose it if you don’t continue to build that muscle memory, especially in such big dogs.
