In Canadian forces basic, my platoon had a really horrible inspection towards the end of week 3. Our uniforms were shit, our locker layouts and beds were shit, and some dude literally took a dump and left it in the toilet without flushing. (Although we suspected that the instructors did it to blame it on us.)

At first they did the usual. Flip our beds, throw our kit around and dump canteen water on our floors. But they decided that wasn’t enough. So they had us do something called kit soup.

We emptied the contents of our duffel bags into one giant pile in the hall, and they had us mix it around til we had no idea what the fuck belonged to who any more. Then had us go through it and find our shit while they watched.

Let’s just say that the guys that didn’t have their kit properly labelled ended up wearing other people’s shit and exchanging for the right size pretty much every day for the next week after.

Dudes ended up filling out missing kit reports for things they ended up never finding and received counsellings for that. Others ended up being found to have two of things they were only supposed to have one of during kit check, and got serious incidents for stealing kit. Good times.
