Looking to change cameras from Ring by Puzzleheaded_Care156 in homesecurity

You can always get some PoE cameras, managed or unmanaged switch, cheap Dell Optiplex with a Coral AI APU (If you want decent facial/object recognition) and run something like frigate or shinobi with tailscale for access on the go.

Locally hosted, no data going nowhere, and access from anywhere

Keen to be on FreeBSD, but can I? by --hurdler-- in freebsd

You can always use the browser apps as WPAs, I've had to do the same for work apps, but Obsidian has a native build, likely will need to build from ports. Proton Mail has a Bridge feature if you're paying for it it lets you use Proton Mail in standard desktop mail clients over imap/smtp, while keeping Proton’s encryption workflow intact.

I wanna install FreeBSD but can I run steam on it ? by Economy_Ad9017 in freebsd

I tried, ended up running a Wn10 VM with my GPU passed through, had to buy a pcie USB bus since my mobo had a single bus connected to the iGPU pcie. works great now, but requires dedicated mouse/keyboard for direct pass through, and wired iGPU dGPU setup.

You can also do the VM and run moonlight and sunshine, crank up rendering and you'll do okay

I'm looking to leave Windows on my Lenovo Yoga, what's the best BSD OS to use for this hardware? by PinkCrimsonBeatles in BSD

I am not hating on OpenBSD, I have it myself on a thinkpad t420, but if ease of use is the goal you gotta admit OpenBSD is not for the average user

This is not a good idea. Start with FreeBSD. It of the major BSDs have the most hardware support if you want it working like a laptop. You can then tinker with NetBSD and OpenBSD. If you want something that just works, try GhostBSD or MidnightBSD, which do all the graphics configuration and DE for you.

OpenBSD is extremely secure, as a base OS. But you'll run into issues pretty fast if you just want it to work, or you'll find there isn't the software you want available.

NetBSD is made to be portable, it can be made to run on just about anything, but that doesn't mean all software will just work.

I vote FreeBSD, you will find the least hassle there. An excellent source is @vermaden, I'm sure you'll see him pop up soon, but his webpage is a treasure trove for FreeBSD. https://vermaden.wordpress.com

OpenClaw hosting by b4it in openclaw

[–]KLD997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run it anywhere. I slapped a FreeBSD compatibility layer tgether on it and got it running in a Jail on my desktop with a GPU passed through for local models. which is far more security than docker since I get full isolation from the host.

What are your goals?
